Stop arguing people, we are all victims of bad game design.

The reason why we are in this situation is :

    1. Blizzard reduced drop rates to slow the game down.

    2. People complained that it was pointless in playing T6 if the drop rate was the same as T1

    3. Blizzard ramped up teh drop rates from T1 to T6.

Now we have "leeching". My suggestion to fix this is :

    1. XP and GOLD should be increased with torment level as it is now. This make sense as the XP levelling amount increases too and one would expect a player to progress from T1 to T6 over some length of time.

    2. Drop rates should be fixed across torment levels to ensure lower level players who are actually playing the at the appropriate level for their level/character, are not punished for being weaker. This is what Blizzard fail to see and this is the root of this problem. I also fail to see why the drop rate cannot be fixed ~ its not like all the drops are great. 99% I pick up go straight to the salvager. If you reward all players of all levels equally, they will enjoy the game and you won't get any leeching

    Sigh...........................

D3 is an item oriented game, not skill based and it does have an end point, a point at which one will possess all items and will have maxed out their stats. Understandably, Blizzard have tried to stretch out the game further by adding RoS and the more recent patch such as 2.1 but unfortunately, they failed to recognise that stretching out a game by reducing drop rates rather than adding new scenes or gameplay will draw alot of complaints. Players will get bored and feel frustrated especially if they cater to extreme players ( those who play for great lengths of time ). Greater Rifts is a step in the right direction so lets see how that goes.

    ** IDEA **
I think they should put more emphasis on player vs player duelling, or even team vs team. Currently, we spend hundreds of hours finding/upgrading/accummulating gear but for what ? The top end players find their names on leaderboards which rank certain stats which we all know are not that accurate whilst the rest of us are left scratching our heads wondering why we are continuing to play after 500 hours. Let's face it, killing dumb computer monsters is boring. Having killed 600,000 of them already, i don't think anything can make it interesting.

If there was a way for teams to challenge one another, wouldn't that be more fun ?. There would be no such thing BIS items and build choice would become a critical factor in the outcome. It would give us all incentive to learn about other character builds/combos and learn how to use our characters better to find the balance between defense/attack. We would need to fight intelligently rather than just use the same skills again and again.

Have any of you play yahoo chess ? when you log in, you see lots of tables and can choose a table to play. D3 could do the same where the player/team who opens a battle puts up some prize money. The challenger has to match the prize and the winner takes all. After each battle, players ranking goes up or down following a similar system to Fide.

This change is major but will definitely be loved by the competitive ones amongst us. Ok, its straying from RPG but its better than adding another few levels which we know a certain few will probably complete within an hour then start complaining about. Those who want to be on a league table will love this format being able to fight their way to the top.

I dont trust anything I read even if it's from a "blue". I recently picked up two Tal Rasha Unwavering Glares from Kalada. Many people swear that this is impossible but that is what happened to me. This is the blue post stating it's impossibility (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/12505892002?page=3#45 )

Part of me suspects the code in the RNG has become so complicated ( spaghetti ) that even the developers cannot be 100% sure of it's actual behavior. If a programmer made a change but inadvertently caused an unintentional change ( bug ), other developers would never know. They would just answer questions on forums checking the software/game spec.

Read all the forums and draw your own conclusions excluding the noise at the extreme ends. From my own expereince, getting an RORG is a painful process - certainly not as easy as some posters claim.

If you want a game where intellect, strategy and good team work prevails, play something like DOTA, League of Legends or Counter Strike. If you just want to kill ALOT of time doing the same thing and don't mind feeling bored and unrewarded then D3 is the perfect game!. D3 has been designed to waste away thousands of hours yet you will never feel you have completed the game and will just want to keep playing and playing and playing and playing and playing and playing for no apparent reason.

If they mentioned the monotony on the box, I would have put it back on the shelf. Oh well, serves me right for trusting reviewers who'd only played the game for an hour before writing the review.

To be fair to D3, all games with no end point will get boring sooner or later.

In regards to the original post, if they equalise the drops across certain parts of the game, won't it become even more uniform and even more mundane ? At least now there is some variation albeit not to your liking.

posted a message on Weekly downtime every Tuesday
    Hi

I have noticed there is an 8 hour outage almost every Tuesday ( US Server ) and was wondering if anything will be done to avoid this such as adopting failover server architecture which allows staggered maintenance work to be carried out with minimal downtime.

As a purchaser of Diablo 3 and ROS, I expect outages to be kept to an absolute minimum which 8 hours is not.

If you are wondering why I am pointing at US servers whilst playing from Asia, it is because I cannot read korean or chinese which the Asia server only offers in terms of language support.

    Thanks

I got 3 RORGs today in an hour and a half.

I'm convinced that the pity timer isn't a timer at all and doesn't "kick in" after a certain amount of time, but rather resets after every legendary, starts immediately, and slowly ramps up the legendary drop chance.
Wow, how about I tag along with you when next go farming ? PM me. Am happy to reward you for your help.

Keeping the best equipment is not an option, because you get tired of playing the same build all the time. Changing the build requires changing some items, or most of the gear, so you don't keep "best equip". Playing the same build over and over again, with the same character, for hundreds of hours is nearing insanity for me.
I hear you but analogy describes the depair of not even having found alot of the "best equip". For example, I've I never found a WoW or SoH or ..... I also love to expirment but can't if i've never found the gear.
Still 0 SoH, WoW and TF found on all my characters (only TF I have was given to me), but hey it's all about luck, RNG and having fun. Still having fun without those items.

@stormie - they are changing things fast and that is the thing I like. Keeping up with some changes will be difficult :)
In case you stop having fun without those items, I've added a guide to contentment which you may refer to

    1. Show humility.
Be grateful for any luck that you have been blessed with. Don't boast, show off or make others feel bad for being who they are or for having what they have. If you are a man of heart and courage, it matter not whether you wield a "broken club" or a"thunder fury"

    2. Recognize enough.
Be grateful for what you have. Appreciate you are able to play the game on a nice PC using a nice mouse whilst sitting in a nice home. When you come across a bug, think how lucky you are to come across such a unique feature. It should be a joyful moment.

    3. Simple life.
Keep things simple. Don't complicate your life and ask too much of yourself. Be happy with the basics. When presented with a new item which brings a new build possibility, go to the armourer and salvage it. See it as flushing away a source of dilemas, procrastination, stress, greed and envy.

    4. Move forward
Let go of any past regrets. Look forward to the next rift and forget about that time you salvaged a RORG because you thought it was useless. Move on and enjoy.

    5. Make room for peace
Isolate yourself from the noise and toxicity the world exposes us to. Play solo, turn off chat and don't read any internet forums.

You will find eternal happiness in D3 ( maybe )

I am very sure I did not jump back into the rift when it closed. What I did do in one rift and that is what I usually do is I continue fighting until the timer ticks down and closes the rift. This has never caused any bugged rifts before.

If I restart my D3.exe, bugs will still persist ?

If that's the case, how can I ensure I won't have any more problems later today. ? The reason I stoppd playing yesteday was because or the issue persisting. My initial thought was the server was messed up.

posted a message on Bugged Rifts
    Hi all

I was playing on the US server on 20th July between 1200GMT and 1400GMT ( UK ) and came across an issue.

On completion of my first rift, I returned to town to repair and stash some gems. Another player in the party then opened a rift however, I did not see the usual "Nephalean Rift" message pop up nor did I hear the sound. The Monument next to Orek also was closed ( not glowing yellow ). However, I then teleported to a player and realised that iw as in a rift as the status was 'Kill guardian... minions". 10 minutes later, we completed the rift and returned back to town. The next 2 rifts that I attempted to open were bugged ( map already revealed and no monsters to kill ).

Thinking that my session was the issue, I exited Diablo completely and restarted the game. On entering the next 3 rifts, the players who opened the rifts also opened bugged rifts ( map was not revealed but there were no monsters to kill. Shrines and pools had already been clicked on )

This is a fairly annoying bug which wastes my rift fragments, I'd appreciate if you could investigate. Note, I was playing only T4

If you want to keep your current items forever, then you are clearly in the wrong genre. Patches come and bring new and better items. That's how it is and always will be in item based games. There will always be a carrot on a stick. Having the best equip forever is not an option.
Yes, but the carrot and stick are mounted on the back of a ferrari travelling at top speed whilst I'm chasing it riding a donkey. But I tell myself, eventually, the Ferrari will break down or run out of fuel so I can catch up ;) . BUT then the new patch arrives and now the carrot and stick has been remounted on a Maclaren F1.... All I can do is whip my donkey.....

On that point, who thinks the Stash should be increased in size ?
Well, Blizzard, obviously. Since it is increasing in size in 2.1. Not sure if that fits your "Blizzard are idiots" narrative, though.
Given they are introducing a whole new set of gems and items, increasing the stash size is a no-brainer. It remains to be seen whether the stash is sufficient to hold all the gems, items and crafting materials the average player ( hoarders excluded ) will keep for their different character classes / builds

Regarding Blizzard, its strikes me that their development / testing lacks any scenario modelling. Modelling all the possible outcomes of all characters/items/affixes/stats. This is the reason why there is frequent buffing/nerfing. With good scenario analysis / simulations, they would be able identify all imbalances ( over power combos, under powered combos ) and test all the new items/features before the PTR. It's all simple maths...

posted a message on The RNG Thread!
I feel the same way.. If you're like me and only play casually, then its hard to play and feel you're making progress with the drop rates of certain items. There is an expectation that everyone needs to put in hundreds/thousands of hours to get "desirable' legs which is quite scarey given RNG really does appear to be random with no memory and will not make sure you get the mauruder set by your 1000th hour. You could be in for a very very long wait.

I've put in 500 hours into my wiz and she has still has MANY hyped items to find. I have not even started playing a monk, barb, crusader yet.

Its more likely we will see a major game changing patch than it is we'll find say, a Wow or something. Thats what i find really amusing about how this game is designed
