There no item competition as all drops are specific to each player.
Which isn't to say you can't give an upgrade to your friend if he'll be better for it. Helping your party improve helps you.
Even if, say, an Intelligence item drops that's an upgrade for both your Witch Doctor and Wizard, I'd want to give it to whoever it would improve the most.

Gathering Storm on Cleave - Slows are extremely important, especially if you have a DH with the passive that increases damage against slowed creatures...but there are so many skills that come with slows, it might not be needed.
True about the slows, but there isn't anything else for utility on Cleave. Only +damage (or indirect +damage through +Fury for Whirlwind). The way I think of tanking is that survivability and group utility are more important than damage. That mindset does carry over from WoW though, so maybe DIII will change my way of thinking.

All this is pure speculation of course, having not seen endgame.

I learned how to type quickly without looking at the keyboard by playing WarCraft III on Battle.Net when I was younger, and I type faster and better (with fewer mistakes too) than anyone I know.

I also met a lot of people online who I became friends with.

More as a result of being around computers than gaming: I'm the best with computers out of anyone I know, though my roommate is a Computer Science major, and he can code circles around me, but he does come to me for advice on the hardware side of things.
I learned to built custom PCs by myself and have since built one for me, one for a friend of mine, and aided in building one for my younger brother.

On the negative side of things I have to agree about everyone else's social points. While I am social, especially around those who I'm familiar with, I'm not the most social person you'd ever meet.

It could have had an effect on my eyesight, though it could just be hereditary, or maybe both. My joints are still fine, though.

If this is true, it's kind of a "meh" feature, since people would probably avoid using it at all when seeing rares/champions.
Pretty much this. I want to see a Blizzard response as to whether or not this is just RNG or an actual feature. If it's a feature, I for one will be ignoring environmental damage as much as possible.

Seems really cool. I like the idea of the group choosing their skillset to best affect the group as a whole instead of just how the one person can do the most damage. Now if only I can get my group to think like this... It may take a harsh death in a higher difficulty to make them see my way.

As someone who is dead set on playing Barbarian, I've really been giving a lot of thought to being a tank role in groups of 4, especially with that runed taunt on Threatening Shout. Though I may end up being in a group of 2 with a Wizard most, so I'd probably be a damage role most of the time. I wonder if it'll end up being essential to sword and board in higher difficulties. I would like the freedom to tank or do damage, since I like both. I'd hate to be forced to tank all the time though, if the monster damage is that much of a problem.

Anyway, speaking for the Barbarian, using your skills I'd probably do something like this, focusing on self healing, defensives, and group aid. Might swap Tough as Nails for Nerves of Steel depending on numbers. Also might use Relentless depending on how long you can actually last sub-20%, and how hard monsters hit. I don't wanna use it if I go from 50% to 10%, for example. You don't get much use out of it.

Also, obviously Bash with Clobber for single-target, and stunnable bosses, otherwise Cleave with Gathering Storm, otherwise maybe Frenzy with Vanguard. It doesn't really matter beyond the first two choices.

I could tinker with it a little and swap some abilities for some others, but Blizzard's calculator doesn't like me putting things where I want them, so I have to move skills in an annoying way to swap them.

    Just a little error correction:
It should say "...Harder Than Hell." Not "Then."

    Another thing I just noticed:
The official name is Diablo III, not Diablo 3.

Just little things to fix to give them that extra oomph of professionalism.

posted a message on Your greatest fear with D3???
I'm worried they'll try to WoW-ise it too much. Catering to casuals over dedicated players, increasing level cap instead of just releasing better items (when LoD came out they just included the better expansion items and buffed Nightmare and Hell), nerfing stuff because "it's too hard," etc.

Yeah, it was about time the Barb has seen some nerfing balancing. I don't think they've done much in recent patches for us, while other classes have gotten at least a few adjustments.

posted a message on Repeating What SC2 Did At Release With D3...
I agree, and I also think you should post this somewhere on Blizzard's forums where they can read it. They don't read these.

I remember back when WC3 was popular, chat channels in B.Net were a huge deal. I always had my go-to private channel that my friends would automatically go to when they logged in, and we would chat and find a game to play (this was before DOTA came around and people actually played other games).

I'd be disappointed if we didn't have at least a WoW-style private chat channel creation system, in which you type '/join YourCustomChannelName' and you have your own channel.

I've never played SC2, so I've never seen B.Net 2.0, but I have heard of SC2's mistakes in regard to sociability, and do hope they make DIII better for it.

posted a message on Legendary salvage materials restricted to inferno now?
They're probably just going through and changing everything from placeholder to actual in-game stuff. Like with Warmonger, it was far and away the best sword in the game, doing more than twice the DPS it does now. It's more in line with other level 60 Legendaries now. I wouldn't take anything that was in the Weapons and Armor part of the guide a week ago to heart.

posted a message on Legendary salvage materials restricted to inferno now?
I noticed something on the same subject earlier today too: I was looking at Warmonger earlier and noticed that it no longer salvages into one of each rank of Inferno crafting material, but instead salvages into 2 Rare quality and 1 Legendary quality material.

Maybe they're going through and refining all the crafting materials. I did notice that before, every item salvaged into one of each quality material at and below the item itself's quality. It could have just been placeholders before.

Could you even craft Legendary items before Inferno? They might have removed them from the list because you didn't need them.
