I liked the original saw because it made you think alot, and saw 2 to me was just a complete bloodbath, the only part that got me to think was the very end... saw 4 made you think the whole time too, saw 3 was decnt in making you think, but not like 1 or 4

    'sans-serif'>Introduction:
'sans-serif'>“I am impressed, mortal.” Said Tyrael as he came into the Worldstone chamber. “You have overcome the greatest challenge this world has ever faced and defeated the last of the Prime Evils. However, we are too late to save the Worldstone.” The others and I shifted uneasily at this revelation. “Baal's destructive touch has corrupted it completely. Given enough time, the Worldstone's energies will drain away and the barriers between the worlds will shatter -- the powers of Hell will flood into this...Sanctuary...and eradicate your people and everything you've labored to build.”
'sans-serif'>Where is Tyrael going with this?'sans-serif'> I thought
'sans-serif'>“Therefore, I must destroy the corrupted Worldstone before the powers of Hell take root. This act will change your world forever -- with consequences even I cannot foresee.” The seven of us looked at each other uneasily. “However, it is the only way to ensure mankind's survival. Go now, mortal. I have opened a portal that will lead you to safety. May the Eternal Light shine upon you and your descendants for what you've done this day. The continued survival of mankind is your legacy! Above all else, you have earned a rest from this endless battle.”
'sans-serif'>We quickly walked through the portal to find that we were only back at the Throne of Destruction where we had first encountered Baal. The Zann Esu magess tried to open a portal back to town, but it seemed that whatever Tyrael was doing to the Worldstone was already starting to affect everything. There was a deafening roar coming from the Worldstone’s chamber now, louder than the rearranging crystals in the chamber itself. “Quickly we must get out of Mount Arreat before… well I don’t want to find out” the child of Bul-Kathos said as he started to run towards the exit of the caverns that were inside of the mount.
'sans-serif'>The closer we got to the exit the louder the roar from the chamber was becoming until we finally broke into the frigid air at the top of Mount Arraet. As the last of us came out through the opening it collapsed sealing off the entrance to the caverns. Looking around and seeing that everyone was here, the Hand of the Zakarum, the Zann Esu magess, a child of Bul-Kathos, a Follower of the Cult of Rathma, the servant of Athulua, a Viz-Jaq'taar, and I, Kur’Tal, a protector of Glor-an-Fhaidha, started back down the Mount to the stronghold of the Children of Bul-Kathos, Harrogath.
'sans-serif'>On the way down the mount we dealt with the few remaining demons that had survived our trip to the Ancients. Upon arrival in Harrogath we didn’t quite receive the welcome we were expecting, with the news of the Worldstone being destroyed, but nothing could have been done. I made plans to start my journey back to Scosglen in a few days, the Zann Esu mages along with the servant of Athulua decided to leave that night, because of the uncomfortable cold. The child of Bul-Kathos left that night to go back to his home village elsewhere in the mountains.
'sans-serif'>“There aren’t many places in town where you can sleep but I have a few spare beds from the unfortunate passing of several of the soldiers defending Harrogath.” Said Malah. “I believe Larzuk and Atma may have additional rooms also.”
'sans-serif'>“I’ll see if Larzuk can accommodate me” said the Hand of the Zakarum.
'sans-serif'>“And I’ll see if Atma would be kind enough to room me for tonight” Replied the Viz-Jaq'taar.
'sans-serif'>“Looks like we’ll take you up on your offer, Malah” the Follower of Rathma stated, “if it’s ok with our friend the follower of the Caoi Dulra of course.”
'sans-serif'>“If Malah insists on giving us her hospitality I suggest we take it.” I said.
'sans-serif'>Later that night after settling into the quaint area where we were to sleep, the Follower of Rathma approached me. “I believe we were never formally introduced, I’m Malevkith”
'sans-serif'>This startled me because every other night around the fires he was the only one not socializing with the others, but since he was finally making an effort. ”Well Malevkith, I’m Kur’Tal, and you seem to know a lot more about me than any of the others combined…”
'sans-serif'>“From your appearance I can tell that you are one of the Elder Council, but I’m curious as to why. You don’t look like you’re old enough for the council, but the tattooing on your arm clearly indicates you are a member”
'sans-serif'>“Why are you so curious? It is true that I am the youngest member to ever serve on the Council, but of what importance is it to you?”
'sans-serif'>“It has implications to some of the doctrines in my belief. Can you please just answer a few questions?”
'sans-serif'>“I was by far the most talented our tribe had ever seen. In controlling the weather, being a shifter and summoning creatures to my aid. But I still don’t see how this could affect your doctrines.” I then heard muffled sounds coming from Malevkith, that sounded strangely like talking. I shrugged it off, it was probably my imagination anyway.
'sans-serif'>“Do you have any idea why you are so talented? Were you raised from a strong bloodline? Or did anything traumatic happen to you when you were younger?”
'sans-serif'>“I have no Idea, I’m the first in my family to be able to conjure a small twister let alone a full blown storm, and nothing traumatic has happened to me that I am aware of.” Hearing the sound again, which I believed I was not imagining now, as I continuously got uneasier. “What does this have to do with the teaching of Rathma?”
'sans-serif'>“It has everything to do with the teachings of Rathma!” But it was not Malevkith who said it.
'sans-serif'>“Come with us, Kur’Tal, we will explain everything in due time, but right now we have to get out of here right now.” Malevkith said.
'sans-serif'>“What’s going on, who said that?” I asked
'sans-serif'>“In due time! We must hurry! Now is not the time for questions, Sanctuary is in danger! Follow Malevkith through the rift now!” I looked around and saw the ‘rift’ that the voice was talking about. I stepped through and everything went dark. I could feel myself losing consciousness, but I remember seeing stars, not how they were supposed to be, but in a somewhat serpentine shape.

There's not a Fan Fic Forum so I guess this would be the best place to post this.
This is very heavy on lore from the manuals and books, so forgive me if you don't understand some of it. I will also give a spoiler warningfor those of you who would like to read the Sin War Trilogy before reading

Ok, so this is my take on what happens immediately after you defeat Baal in Diablo 2

I will update about once a week with another chapter depending on the amount of time I have.

    The Endless Battle

    Introduction:

“I am impressed, mortal.” Said Tyrael as he came into the Worldstone chamber.

Where is Tyrael going with this? I thought

“Therefore, I must destroy the corrupted Worldstone before the powers of Hell take root.

We quickly walked through the portal to find that we were only back at the Throne of Destruction where we had first encountered Baal. Yep, voted for the story line, after that comes gameplay imo.
Read some diablo books, the whole concept/story is just amazing!

Yupp, I can proudly say I own a copy of every piece of lore except the D&D manuals.

p.s. and i'll probably buy the archive to have a hard copy of demonsbane lol

Storyline ftw. Gameplay is a close second. These are what Diablo is about if I don't hear *click click clickity click* I tend to get bored with a game, but the storyline for Diablo is amazing. I know when Diablo 3 does come out I will read the entire manual at least once before thinking about putting the disc in my comp
