posted a message on What are your goals as a player for diablo 3?
I hope that Blizzard will have the good sense to allow duplicate character names. Correct my if I am wrong, but I don't think we know all of the new bnet features yet, so who knows. If I were designing the new Bnet (and I'm not so flame away) this is what you would have ...

    • your battle net account that no one else knows about (this is not displayed in game for security)
    • one unique diablo 3 alias so people can /m Cosmosis
    • Character names that are only unique per alias. So when I join a game it says "CharacterName (Cosmosis)" joined the game

This way you wont have people racing to reserve 10 of their favorite character names ... you only have people racing to reserve their alias.

Back on topic ... my goal, for my first play through the game will be to take it slow, explore every nook and cranney, and absorb all of details of the storyline.

posted a message on Single Player HC ressurect?
I wasn't trying to question anyone's skills. The game is hard and sometimes bad things happen. I was just wondering why you are playing hardcore if you are just going to resurrect your dead characters using a third party program.

If you are just going to hack the game to undo your death, it seems easier to play a non hardcore character. You can still challenge yourself by trying to not die, but at least this way you wouldn't have to resort to a third party program if something happens to your character.

The point of hardcore is to keep dead characters dead. Using a hack to get around this rule seems kind of pointless since the normal mode of play does the same thing essentially.

    Yup.

But yeah, your death is nothing but a single flag Hero Editors can easily change.

obviously. I still don't see the point though.

If you are going to use an editor to bring your hero back to life, then you should really just not play hardcore in the first place.

IMO, D2 should delete the character file as soon as they die to make this sort of thing impossible.

If you can't handle HC, don't play HC.

Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't that defeat the point of playing hardcore?

dealing with your family situation is important. But with those symptoms the first thing you should do is either see a doctor or go to the hospital to get yourself checked out. It might just be a mild concussion, but with a 104 degree fever, nausea, and dizziness, you really need to make sure this isn't serious.

I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. I am just telling you what I would be doing in your situation.

posted a message on Bashiok doesn't care about the Diablo 3 community
You really shouldn't take it so personally. I thought his post was kind of funny as it is a reference to a great Mike Meyers movie (So I Married an Axe Murderer).

If you want my honest opinion, we were getting so much information because of WWI and BlizzCon ... they save all of their big announcements and major reveals for these events. It's been many months since these events occurred, and this is why it has been many months since we have received any big pieces of information.

Bashiok was just having fun ... he was pointing out the fact that people see shadows in every corner. They see conspiracies where none exist. Blizzard isn't a high school student. They are professionals and are capable of taking a beating. They wont withdraw in to their shells simply because a vocal minority speaks out against there design decisions - specially when this vocal minority does not have all of the information.

Rest assured that Blizzard will release more information when they are ready, most likely at the next big event.

I had a similar idea a few days ago and posted it on the official forums.

I think the idea would need to be tweaked and properly balanced, but I think it could work.

posted a message on 4 or 8 Player Max?
Many of the game's features haven't even been announced yet. Without a better understanding of the game mechanics it is hard to make an informed decision on this topic.

My answer would have to be "whatever works best".

Blizzard isn't making it a 4 player cap because they picked that number out of a hat. They determined that 4 players is the most fun after a number of play tests.

edit: do we even know if D3 will support lan play in the traditional sense, or will everyone have to be hooked up to the internet?

posted a message on Item Drop Notifications
The best solution would be to display the item when it drops in a different/faded color. You would not be able to pick up these drops, they would only be there for informational purposes and would fade away after a few seconds. This keeps your eyes on the screen where the action is.

I think this might be a bad idea though as I think it defeats the purpose of having individual drops. This was my drop and it is possible that I need it for another character or can trade it for an item that I do need. If you know I have an item that I don't want to give or trade to you, you might end up having bad feelings towards me, which might ruin the party.

If you *really* need an item that badly then say so when you start your game. If someone gets the drop then they can decide to be silent and keep it, or trade it to you.

posted a message on Still wondering about the Blizzard Splash images
If I remember correctly, the main image of the ice cracking was never really explained properly, although it was planned. At the WWI however, someone asked them about the penguin and nobody knew what they were talking about. It's possible they were lying, but it sounded like the penguin was a last minute addition of some sort.

posted a message on why has blizzard bought diablo 4 domains?
Do we know for sure that it was blizzard that registered these websites? Look at the WHOIS for diablo3.com

    http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=diablo3&tld=com
    Registrant:
    Blizzard Entertainment Blizzard Entertainment

Now look at the whois for diablo4.com

    http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=diablo4&tld=com
    Registrant:
    Christian Engels

Christian also owns World of Diablo. He is probably a domain troll ... he most likely buys hundreds of domain names hoping that one day one of them will sell for lots of money.

If blizzard did ever turn diablo in to an MMO they wouldn't name it after World of Warcraft though ... seriously ...

posted a message on 100-110 Skills Per Character - Very Likely
Someone should point out the fact that the 5/10/15 number you see in the screenshot are not level requirements. They are skill point requirements.

    See the following link:
    http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1020

No prerequisits for level 1 skills
Level 2 skills need 5 skill points anywhere in that tree
Level 3 skills need 10 skill points anywhere in that tree
Level 4 skills need 15 skill points anywhere in that tree

Also note that we do not know how many skill points we get per level. It's probably that we only get one, but maybe we get more? Maybe you normally get 1 point per level but get an extra point every 5 levels? We dont know.

Also note that this is the entire wizard skill tree. There are only 4 levels per tree. having any more skills than that will only complicate things too much.

Blizzard wont create too many skills for the same reason why they are only sticking to 5 classes. It would be hard to create 300 skills per character and have them all be unique enough to be effective, distinct, and powerful. They are trying to create a simple game that has lots of options (hence the runes). Creating a character with too many skills would only needlessly complicate the situation.

The number of slikks you see at the above link is probably what you will see (on average) for each character.

It would be silly of them not to integrate voice chat in to the game. They seem to be very focused on co-operative and online play, and I think voice chat lends itself to this quite nicely.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Release before SC2?
    Old news.

Note that the "inside source" only comments on how many people are working on each team. The source says nothing about release dates. That part was added by the creator of the thread.

*If* SC2 has less people working on it currently than D3 does, it is because it is almost done and will be released soon.

More people working on a project does not mean it will be released sooner. It just means that it is at a different place in it's development life cycle.

posted a message on Blizzard Debunks Diablo III Release Before Starcraft 2 Rumor
I do believe one part of the rumor, and it partly reiterates what Medievaldragon said a few post up. I do believe that the Diablo 3 team has more people than Star Craft 2, but that does not mean that D3 will come out before SC2. It all depends on where the project is in it's life cycle.

I work in a medium-large software company. At any one time, we are working on several large (multi-million dollar) projects. People are always shifting around as they are needed on different projects, but one thing is always the same. When a project is in full development mode it has a lot of people working on it. As the project nears completion, many developers get moved to a newer project. Some remain behind to fix the bugs and add some polish.

This is where Star Craft 2 is right now. The art is done, the programming is pretty much done, all that remains is a bit of tweaking. It doesn't need a full team of developers working on it. However, Blizzard has stated several times that Diablo 3 is in full content development. This means art, programming, design, the whole 9 yards. That requires lots of people.

It does not mean that D3 is coming out before SC2.

Having said that, I do believe we will see a playable D3 demo at blizcon. It will show what we have already seen, as well as anything new they announce.
