Hey, thanks for sharing! I've been a bandwagon bear-build user through almost 2 difficulties. I hit Inferno this morning and it felt like hitting a brick wall. This build answers a lot of the shortcomings of the bear build (which is still insanely good against bosses), namely the lack of CC / snare and the close-range requirement.
Honestly I'm really happy about this, as the bear build is fun sometimes but not my style of play; this build is far closer to the kind of build I ran in Normal / NM when anything worked and you could do what felt fun.
I'm hoping to see some success with this build; I've got 15k DPS and 38k life and am lucky to beat 1-2 elite packs in Act 1 before starting to infinitely and instantly wipe. I've also spent too long playing with big DPS 2H styles, as the long cast time locks you in place which is suicide when mobs are 1-2-3 shotting you.
EDIT: Someone above was asking about how this worked on bosses, and my thinking would be if you're just progressing / clearing content I'd swap it all out for a standard 2-minute bear build, but for farming (i.e., can't lose Neph stack) this still seems like it'd work pretty well.

Do you like your odds better farming this chest in Act 2 (not Act 1, you don't even know what you're talking about) Inferno or trying to down really brutal champion packs that might not even have a better chance to drop the elite-end legendaries? Even if they never dropped a legendary or rare, they consistently drop good gems / artisan pages, which is OP enough without the rares and legendaries that do indeed drop.

It's not, which is why it's crummy and how we know to a pretty good degree of certainty that it's not 'working as intended'; the devs have stated over and over D3 is not supposed to function the same way (i.e., farming one area / boss forever).

I'm looking more forward to Inferno, where this will be stupidly broken. You can conveivably run past even champion packs in the very short trip from the WP to check for this, and farm an exceptionally good loot table with almost zero danger / effort. It may not be broken in Normal / NM but it's going to start looking that way in Inferno very quickly.

May 18, 2012Yeah, I tried out this Dire Bats / Vision Quest build, and once you get the hang of working with cooldowns and Vision Quest it's pretty effective, but definitely not how I like to play; the Bats are such a monstrous mana dump. I still feel like Dart is a more sustainable / consistent DPS for single targets backed up by Swarm or Acid Cloud for AOE, they're more cast-and-forget. I've been working more with a 'mana-less' build that uses lighter / more mana efficient skills to let me do things like take the +20% damage increase (30% mana cost increase) passive.Posted in: Witch Doctor: The Mbwiru Eikura
I don't think it's OP because they're so mana heavy and working with vision quest can be a bit tricky to manage, especially in really rough champion pack engagements.

I've been debating saying anything because I don't want tons of people suddenly taking advantage of it, but I realize it'll become widespread knowledge eventually and I'd rather Blizzard correct it now if they deem it worth messing with.
This isn't a bug or exploit, just probably not something that is 'working as intended'.
In Act 2, take the waypoint 'Path to the Oasis' (or whatever it's called at the oasis entrance).
Immediately scope out the area to the NE of the oasis entrance. You're looking for the mini-dungeon event entrance labeled 'Ransacked Cellar' (you might see 'Rotting Cellar' as well in the same spot, it's not the one you're after).
Go down and there's a very fast little fight and an NPC opens up his basement, there are two chests -- 1 normal and 1 resplendent that always has good loot; I tend to get 2-3 blues, sometimes a rare, at least 2 gems and 1-2 artisan pages every time. There's a resplendent chest in this cellar 100% of the time.
I'm pretty sure this pops up somewhere in the oasis every single generation, but it often shows up very close to the WP entrance which makes checking for it there very quickly very easy. Quite simple to check for it, run it if it's there, and then TP, exit game, Resume game, check again. You can do it 12-15 times an hour without even trying to be fast.
I don't think it's quite gamebreaking but it obviously lets you pile up some nice drops very quickly. I'm worried about more spots like this becoming known / farmed / botted, so here's to hoping Blizzard tweaks this ASAP.

May 12, 2012Eh...without getting really gritty into your numbers it feels really under-estimated. From beta experience the ~30mins / level is low even getting up toward 9-12. Obviously the first couple levels go quickly and will average down the longer numbers, but not -that- severely. I don't think it's off by a huge margin I just think it 'feels' low. 11 hours to 21....Hmm. I'm just not sure about that.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion

May 11, 2011They also reiterated on the forums (Bashiok) that the Wizard's resource is Arcane Power, which has a finite cap and quickly regenerates, corresponding with the wizard's 'bursty nature', WD uses mana which regens much slower. Given their track record of delaying software, I don't see any reason I should believe what they say. Now, I'm not saying they're wrong for delaying software - it's part of why they are so great! Like Kiserai said earlier, this isn't fanboys vs. haters. We all love Bliz, and we all want this game to come out yesterday. But we're all unique individuals who see the world our own way. Blizzard intentionally speaks in obtuse generalities because they refuse to make any real time commitments until very close to release. Absence of evidence leaves us with guesses and opinions. And as we know, opinions are not fact. Neither is belief for that matter.
The only time I've taken issue in these forums is when people start extrapolating wild fantasies from statements that are intended to avoid external commitments.
To be fair, there's a large disparity between wild fantasies and being cautiously optimistic. Taking Blizzard's cautious confidence in their own target isn't a wild fantasy. If I said I thought we'd see the beta in a week, that would be a wild fantasy. We both ended last night with a curbing of the hyperbole, let's not wake back up to it.

What's hard is that it's essentially impossible to find middle ground here; either people are seen as fanboys who think Blizzard can do no wrong and accept anything they're told without any skepticism, or as overly skeptical Blizz-haters that think Blizzard will never do anything right by the players, will always be months/years late, etc. I've obviously been open to being accused of falling into the former camp, and I realize I've been guilty tonight of leveling the latter accusation at you and others. Neither is fair.
All I'm really ever getting at here is that the people who really know what's going on with D3, as best as anyone really does (i.e., anything can happen, something game-breaking appears last minute and they have to postpone, or internal testing goings unbelievably well and we see beta ahead of schedule, etc.) are still saying they think can do this timetable. I think it's unreasonable to think they'd set even a caveat-laden goal this prominently if they didn't think they had a better-than-not chance of hitting it (i.e., 51%+, even slightly better than even odds).
Blizzard has had one sketchy history, we all know that. But I think we're seeing a new era of sorts, and SC2 was pretty pristine as far as living up to their timetable. D3 is a different beast (literally!) but I still believe it bodes well. They've been hyper cautious, as always, at every turn, so now that they've given us even this admittedly preliminary 'date', I'm confident.

Yes, I saw the alpha/beta clarification and it was a fine point to make. On the topic of clarification, I very genuinely appreciate Winged's offerings but a minor in graphic design != 'expertise' on game development, much less Blizzard's, particularly related to D3, which is the only point I was ever making. Corollary proclamations ('I'm a software developer, I'm an investor', ad nauseum) encounter the same problems.
There's a difference between framing your opinion as 'I think that...' and 'You're all wrong and I'm right because of x y and z knowledge that I have.'

No Blizzard employee ID card? No magical knowledge specific to D3 to share. The guys who do have that knowledge? Oh, Q3 beta and 2011 release is still the target goal.

My point being that even if you were CEO or head of dev at another big studio, you have literally zero extra insight over myself or anyone else on this forum (barring Bashiok's secret lurker account or something) over what -Blizzard- really has going on behind closed doors, you don't know where they honestly feel they stand any more than the rest of us.
I don't mind everyone speculating, but no one has any reasonable ground to stand on to claim that their speculation has any more credit to it than anyone else's.
The people who have been in those meetings and are attaching their names / reputations to those dates, loose as they are, have told us Q3 beta, 2011 release as the goal. Why is it unreasonable to believe them? If they said 'Q1 2012' does anyone think sales are going to be lower or something?
I don't appreciate future assumptions, so I'll clear the air now: I'm just as willing to take my forum beating if they do disappoint greatly, and I'll be first in line, albeit graciously, the flaunt my confidence if things go as planned.
We're all friends here...
Edit: And yes we've all heard the rhetoric of 'Well sure 2011 is the GOAL but they know they can't get it out by then...'; this is nonsense. If they're sticking to it even as 'a goal' they have at least a reasonable level of confidence they can do it, there's absolutely no reason they'd lay themselves that clear a trap to fall into later when they have to move the date back.

Two seemingly small details: people are basing this on...Blizzard's own estimation, and Bashiok didn't use the word 'rough', you did. Barring the requisite caveat that was offered up about not sacrificing polish to 'hit a window', this is more or less the timetable that's been hinted at for a while now, in slightly less ambiguous terms.
Blizzard has had all the chances in the world to hedge this bet far more than they have, there's no reason to think there's anything 'rough' about it. It's still an estimation, it's still a 'target', but what wouldn't be?
I really don't get all the knee-jerk reactions couched in so much cynicism and hostility.

It would be a great opportunity for them to give the beta cycle a little boost, assuming the demo is something resembling the beta product.
Well if they're on schedule the beta will already have been underway by Blizzcon.

I think the final stretch is finally in view and I think it's time to take the risk of getting excited & investing in the idea of the timetable Blizz has put forth. Yeah, maybe we'll get burned again, but I'd rather get my hopes up and really enjoy the momentum of the next few months and deal with the frustration later than sit around and humbug every time Blizz even hints that a 2011 release is coming. As of (literally) this afternoon, Blizzard doesn't anticipate having to move the date into 2012, and we shouldn't either. History be damned, this is a new Blizzard & a new Diablo. If they said 'We're hoping for beta next summer' it'd feel much more tenuous to me. This is why if they go into beta on schedule and say at BlizzCon they still think 2011 for release is feasible we should be pretty confident in that, they wouldn't be overly optimistic in such short timeframes.Posted in: News
