posted a message on Is It Too Early to Pre-Order?
Yeah, I'll pre-order when Blizzard posts a release date and no one else. I've been through this countless times with other games. Never ever trust retailers/vendors. They just want your money. They don't know squat about the game's release.

I lose LAN play. Everyone else loses broken teleport.

Sounds like a fair trade. :3

Pretty cool, but is it really going to be that easy? I mean she barely took any damage at all, and the mana never ran out because of the extreme regeneration.

Is it really all that different from Diablo 2? In the first few acts, it is uncommon to sustain much damage. Play a bowazon or javazon, and see how often your health falls below half.

I don't have the source on hand, but I distinctly remember one of the designers stating that they are trying to pull away from having certain characters act as "the meat shield" or "the king of hit and run". The classes are going to bring awesome variety to the game but still be equally susceptible to damage.

    Where?

Oops! Actually, I am basing this off of Starcraft II. I suspect Diablo 3 will work much the same.

Actually, there will be no (announced) DMR on D3. The already known Warden from D2 will stay with us, although it is unclear how far it has been developed. Also, this statement alone already informs potential buyers what they are getting when they install the game.

    Source

That source makes me feel much better. I hope to play D3 without the disc (and without limited installs).

Forgive the bump. I feel this thread has new relevance.

Blizzard has indeed implemented a couple forms of DRM. First, it has been confirmed that there will be online authentication during installation. Second, you have to be online to do virtually anything.

At least Blizzard is trying to add value to being online all the time, but I am still quite upset with the principle that I have to "ask permission" to do anything.

Rares can be pretty darn good. I would even say no rares. In fact, a friend and are I considering two challenges: the blue challenge and the white challenge.

    I really do wanna see how far we can get on completely white gear. ^_^;;

Anyone ever considered doing a playthrough where you can only use white or blue items? They are so neglected, I figured it'd be interesting trying to beat the game using this mediocre selection. For one thing, it would make shop purchases much more enticing.

I suspect it is not an original idea; I mainly thought of it while considering the Ocarina of Time 3-heart challenge.

No doubt. The game is obviously not as demanding as Crysis, and that card can run Crysis.

    Sweet. Thanx.

I think the newest game I have is Portal. I just don't have the money for many of the recent games, but I will definitely be setting aside funds for Diablo 3. ^_^

posted a message on StarCraft II/Diablo III to Have Pseudo-LAN
I really wish people would stop assuming that wanting LAN = piracy. My friends and I all purchased our own copies of Starcraft. Piracy was never part of our intent. We just want to play the game without an Internet connection.

Battle.net 2.0 indeed looks amazing, but my Internet goes down time and again. I want to be able to play regardless with friends over LAN.

Overall he sounds very respectable and nice. I agree with what he says and how he parents is his own business of course, but personally i don't see how FPS's or even "any game with guns in it" is worse than diablo. I think GTA is a different story, but shooters in general aren't that bad, except for a few.

I believe he is referring to the fact that most FPS games have more direct connections to reality. Even though Diablo might be more violent/gory than a typical FPS, killing monsters in a completely fictional universe using completely fictional means has less likelihood to affect someone than a game featuring a gangster shooting people on the streets of New York (a real weapon killing "familiar" people in a real city). Granted, different people are affected in different ways, but I find his point valid.

Epic! Thank you so much, Blizzard! My wife and I were concerned with the extreme amount of bloody/gory explosion going on with every death. I love Diablo a ton, but I'd rather not have so much blood going everywhere. I have a kid too, but that is only a secondary excuse. I don't like exposing myself to so much excess gore. I much appreciate the ability to tone the game down. I am more about the story and gameplay anyway. :)
