    My review of Torchlight:

    Overall: 4/5

The core aspects of the gameplay that have been streamlined are truly welcome additions to the Diablo formula. Yes, I wish I could show my loot off via an online co-op mode. But YES, I will still play this game for hours anyways. It is extremely addictive and fun. For your $20, you will easily have fun for 10 solid hours... and I will likely spend more like 30 playing it.

There are definitely some complaints to be had with the graphics if you're comparing them to what we've all seen of D3. This is not Diablo3.

Aside from the obvious core aspects that Torchlight has taken from the Diablo formula, the most notable for me is the MUSIC. The graphics don't feel like Diablo at all, but the music for me is a gamechanger and sometimes... when I'm back in the town of Torchlight, it feels as though am back at the Rogue Encampment. Its worth $20 to support Uelmen's great work alone. This guy's efforts will definitely be missed in Diablo3.

I first leveled a Destroyer. And I will say that, early on in the game, the skill tree that Runic has come up with here feels a bit off. Very curious to see how it compares to the Barb tree in Diablo3. After I've had the chance to level all 3 classes past lvl 20 I may have to come back to reviewing the skilltree stuff.

For now though, it's a damn fun game that I will spend hours messing with. Very easy to recommend for only $20.

posted a message on Torchlight: Destroyer questions
    Lvl 5 Destroyer

I've been putting almost all my stats in strength and defense thus far. Just seemed to make sense to me for a barb style.

Should I be putting anything into Magic? Or Dex?

Is it me or do the destroyer's skills seem to be lacking? I'm looking for the best "berserk" or "bash" option for a boss-type situation (most dmg skill for 1 opponent)... anyone know what the best skill for that is?

Anyway I'd rather comment in the news thread itself..

Believe the actual post is locked..

And hrms.. I must have been out of the loop for quite a while because I'm just learning about the game not having town portal scrolls.

Imagine playing a hardcore character without town portal scrolls. Better yet a hardcore zeal'din stuck in Chaos Sanc... and Lord de Seis just cast IM on you.... and you have no town portal scrolls. GG Esc+Enter.

I like the idea of having a seperate lock box that your other characters can access. I agree that muling must (and I'm 99% sure it will) be done away with.

There could also be some kind of mailing system where you just send something to another character and it shows up in their regular loot stash. If your stash was full, you could get a notification that you have a package and should clear out some room. This way you could send stuff to friends as well for gifts!

I really like this gifting idea. I can remember countless times I've found an item that I know one of my friends needs... and then I'd get pissed when I check my friends list to find that they're offline and I'm going to have to save room for it somehow.

A way to easily "gift" things to friends who are online OR offline would be amazing for saving vital inventory space.

It appears you guys have been privy to Torchlight for quite a while now (Sorry I just found this thread). Jump over and let me know what you think about implementing some of this stuff in D3?

the game has the same graphics from warcraft 3, in the after game when you could control that hero, but more in depth...i like it i am actually gonna buy it in a few hours when it is made available

Yeah it appears to look very similar to WoW/Warcraft3 from a graphics standpoint.

The Runic guys have really streamlined some of the major gameplay flaws with Diablo2 from what I've seen though. You definitely get the feel that the people who made this game love Diablo and took the time to think out some of it's quirks.

I do wish they were able to launch Torchlight with 8 player online coop but, from what I've seen, you should get your $20 worth.

    First,

Credit for all of this goes to the makers of Torchlight and the Giantbomb guys. The video that GB made can be found here:

    http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-torchlight/17-1551/

After viewing their quicklook of Torchlight, there are some glaring, awesome features that I would REALLY like to see implemented in Diablo3. Conflict of interest potential here I know because of the Runic guys having worked on the original Diablo games and, well, these two games are likely to be direct competitors of each other. Also, some of this may have already been addressed by Blizzard/these forums, but please bare with me and thanks for your patience:

1.) Shared lock-boxes: In town, there are 2 chests (as opposed to 1 in Diablo). The first chest is simply your current characters storage. The second chest is a shared lock-box; e.g. if you're loot hunting with your melee-based character and happen to find an awesome mage/caster weapon you can go back to town and put that in your shared box, exit game, load up your mage and find it waiting for you as soon as you come into town. Now, there could be some tricky business with the way this is implemented online (Torchlight is offline-only currently). But not having to worry about muling in Diablo3 is an ABSOLUTE MUST-have feature in my opinion.

2.) Mercenary(pet) Inventory space: When you pull up your pet's inventory, you'll find a screen identical to your own. Not only are rings, amulets, etc. are all equip-able, but your pet has its own inventory space as well. Simply shift-left-clicking items in your inventory will send them directly to your pet's inventory. Which leads us to the best part:

3.) Mercenary(pet) item selling: With 1 click your pet is sent off to town to sell your un-needed loot back to the NPC's. Instead of casting a town portal and going back yourself, your pet does the work whilst you remain in the dungeon hacking away. This process takes about 1 minute, after which your pet will return to you in the dungeon and report how much gold was just added to your stash.

Yes, calling a merc a pet is weird for me also, but that is what they are called in Torchlight. And again, sorry if these ideas have already been addressed here or in the Blizzard forums. But I would really like to see Bashiok/Blizzard's comments about some of these ideas. I didn't see anything along the likes of this discussion in the Blizztracker.

    Thanks for the time,
    Neight

    Quote from Leonard's interview:

"There will be no non-combat skills." HRM?!

Does this mean: no Enchant, no Auras, no Masteries, and in essence.. no intricacy to the new gameplay? Just "use this skill to hit things" or "use this skill infect things with locusts". :-(

This is getting scary to me. Hopefully I'm interpreting this way wrong...

    To Blizzard,

I'm a big fan of upgrading your color palette.

Just make it SCARY. I want to see Durance of Hate Level 6 with blood and intestines splattered all over the walls. Exposed rib cages with poor bastard ghouls desperately trying to creep out of them. Pentagrams, upside down crosses.. whatever it takes!

So far from what I've heard on the D3 site the music is right on. No complaints there so far.

Just hope you have some seriously atmospheric and demonic shit up your sleeve for the release, graphics wise.

posted a message on Battle net server maintenance and hacking
Yeah I just posted a thread basically asking the same thing and it was shut down 4 minutes later.

It was supposedly discussed at WWI. Blizzard said "they learned alot from D2" and that they are working hard to make D3/Battle.net much safer (or something along those lines).

As for monthly fees I'm not sure what Blizzard will do. IMO it's on battle.net it should be free.
