Sabvre posted a message on Same Skill, Multiple SlotsI would NOT be fine with this. This is part of what makes choosing a rune determine your build. There are several skills that i wish i could choose option -> All of the above for rune effects. Being able to do that is just silly and removes the point of having to choose.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion -

Apoc posted a message on Random EncountersApologies if this has already been posted, but I thought this video was pretty neat. It shows an encounter created by the procedural generation of the game. It gives the player a short quest for the encounter too. Not too hard for normal, but I can only imagine what it must be like on Inferno difficulty. This kind of stuff is very encouraging for the replay value of D3Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion

Roger posted a message on Pre-Download for digital copy?Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionQuote from sbsgrinth
The last WoW expansion didn't count, because you got all(if not most) of the content even if you didn't buy the expansion. All you bought with the expansion was the new 80+ content and the new races, which by buying the game got you was ACCESS to it. Diablo 3 is a completely new game no one other then blizzard had that content on their computer.
OMG, doesn't anyone read my posts?
Blizzard DID this with SC2, ok? You could download the whole game one week before the release but the installer would only install the game the day it was out. After installed it would only activate if you bought the game (what would also happeon only after the game was out).
I expect exactly the same thing in D3, and I will do it just the same as I did with SC2. -

snowhammer posted a message on Affixes Not SteamlinedSo I didn't see a post on this yet, so I figured I would start up some discussion on it.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
This is quite possibly my favorite blue post since, ever?
Someone asled "Have affixes been streamlined?"
Official Blizzard Quote:
No, what you saw in the tooltips from gamescom is really just an example and not indicative of what we have planned. Affixes are one of those areas, like weapons and armor, that we're going to get in as much as we can before the game ships, and then we'll be adding more afterward. We have pretty much all the basics covered, adds to base stats, adds elemental damage, increases attack and cast speed, and then we have some of the crazier stuff like regenning arcane power on a critical hit, spending fury heals you, extra health from health globes, health globe pickup radius, gold pickup radius ... to name a few.
The tooltips from gamescom are more or less indicative of what's actually implemented in the internal builds right now this second (quite a bit less really), but not of what will be available at release, and certainly not what we plan for down the road.
Just so much awesome. Arcane Power on Crits and Healing when you spend Fury are especially awesome. These are exactly the kind of "fun / wierd" affixes and mods I was hoping to see.
To hear the examples, and on top of that hear that they are going to be adding more after the release is really great news.
I am going to build an entire +Health Globe Radius set!! Where ever they drop on the screen, I pick them up! -

d0c posted a message on New items, rares and uniques... questionsIf legendaries are the absolute best items in the game, and they have set item stats, that leaves no room for randomness in the game. Everyone will simply be hunting for these lengendary items with fixed stats and have no more room for item hunting. With rares being the POSSIBLE (key here) best items in the game, it leaves a lot more room for excitement and item hunting when looking at the game from an end-game perspective. It gives the game almost infinite replay value, because you almost certainly won't ever be able to find the absolute perfect rares for your character.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
If anyone remember D2 Classic, this is what made the item game so damn fun. -

Dolaiim posted a message on How Blizzard got 3 things wrong with D3Wait wait whoa whoa whoaaa.. you mean Blizzard is retarded and ruining everything?? You mean they're NOT coming to your house, cupping your balls, and bending to your every whim and fancy?Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Cool fucking story bro. See you in-game when it's released.
These whiner-ass armchair developer threads need to stop.
If you've decided you're not going to buy the game, do us all a favor and GTFO. -

dewpdoop posted a message on No Offline Mode - No More Bot/Hacks!Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionQuote from Ophion
The ability to hack in D2 has nothing to do with its offline mode, it is simply an old game with an old server structure. Removing offline mode was not done to prevent hacking, and if it would make a return it would not mean the return of hacking. I just want to point that out.
You are actually completely wrong. For those of you who aren't familiar with game development/how games work, here's an important fact: an offline mode would require all game data and much of the server code to be stored directly in the game client.
One of the most important things about having no offline mode is that the client/server architecture can be constructed in a way that ensure the client gets very little information, and most of data is stored server side. I imagine things such as items, all player related data, abilities, stash, etc. to all be server-side information that the game client (user) only receives the bare minimum amount of information. This makes hacking, reverse engineering, etc. much more difficult (notice I said difficult, not impossible), as well as trackable/detectable by Blizzard.
You may tout is as DRM, what have you, but this decision was not made to prevent "piracy." All signs point to this decision being made to ensure that D3 is as secure as possible from hacking, botting, etc., and to prevent Auction House abuse. And really, this is no different that Guild Wars, or (the old) HoN, or any of the myriad of other Buy-To-Play multiplayer only games. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
