I don't think you can do it for single player, but activating the gem in chat always worked wonders for me.

Showing most frequently used spells or more clues into a person's actual strategy is garbage imo. I'd rather it be an exercise in mid-battle strategy and agility than pre-battle countering.

when did 20 years make some event a legend?
and the destruction of the world stone is not just some one kill some daemon it is event that changed the world.
hm...... Wat if the destruction of the world stone some how erased peoples minds?

500 years ago if a meteor crashed into spain, then word traveled slowly to China over the next 20 years I would imagine people in China might think it is merely a legend. When news isn't instant and you only hear accounts from a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend...it's easier to doubt. Purple monkey dishwasher.

It's free to play. The only thing that costs money is character renaming/moving just like in WoW.

I'm not sure but they have got to notice all the other games and companies that charge fees for online and are getting paid, including themselves. If they do anything IMO, they should make it similar to xbox live, $50 a year for access to b.net. That would include ability to play SC2 as well. It might actually make me not want to buy it as I am getting tired of all the monthly fees I already pay in my life. Cable/Internet, cell phone, gym membership, apartment rent, xbox live, water/sewage, electicity, insurance...its getting out of hand.

Don't most shields require you to put your forearm through? I can't imagine blocking anything (except a purse) with only my wrist and a handle that will likely swivel in my hand.

I think you're missing italofica's point, which if I'm not mistaken, is medieval world authenticity. Now it's true that this is a fantasy medieval world, but medieval times were characterized by their lack of technological advancement which is why some people do not like to see technological gadgetry in those games.

For example, I hate Gnomes in RPG games because they always have these technically advanced instruments that don't seem to fit with the rest of the game, like telescopes, eye glasses, primitive guns, etc.

In your example, a fire spell fits perfectly well in the magic medieval genre but an aeresol can does not, and that's the key point!

Nothing talked about so far seems out of whack with Diablo. I don't support the whole summoning a catapult idea, but there were catapults in D2. Also crossbow is kind of a technological advancement, I don't see why tying a trip wire to the bolt would be such a leap. A little chemistry and alchemy is shown in potions...surely someone who specializes in such things could actually make good throwing potions. I guess all I'm saying is this person uses things instead of conjures them from thin-air...that is the only difference. But of course he uses things that fit in the game.

wtf i hate you even more now :D
Kiding, i hate just your idea.

Man I hate those heros that uses hundreds of devices, like old James Bond. It's so stupid how they have execly the devices for the unspected(?) situation. I really hope they don't make something cheesy like that. It REALLY don't belongs to out loved Sancturay.

Hero fights are driven by coincidence. Almost every hero type movie has the ridiculous coincidence aspect going for it. Funny how whenever venom (from spiderman) is around they always seem to fight next to something that makes big sound waves (venom's weakness). Or when Dorothy happens to find a bucket of water in the wicked witches castle (wizard of oz)...why the hell would she even allow water to be anywhere near her castle, what a dumbass.

Anyways if it's acceptable for a wizard to have a fire spell which coincidentally hurts certain monsters a lot then it should be acceptable for a dude to coincidentally have a lighter and a can of bug spray.

Besides this won't be like a Bond movie where he just starts whipping stuff out of that the audience doesn't know about. I hate that stuff too, where its like "oh man that rocket is going to kill him" then it turns out his car has a chaff. They do that to create some sort of suspense and then give the audience a feeling of relief and awe (it fails to create those results for me). But in this case you would have already trained the skill and decided what he will carry and it won't have such a "where the hell did that come from" type feeling.

First off...engineering in wow doesn't need to be era appropriate because its not mimicking any era in earth's history. Although it used to be set aside only for goblins and dwarves before wow...

Secondly, this idea isn't that bad. The catapult thing seems to draw a lot of criticism, but the idea isn't exactly set in stone considering it involves a rough sketch in a few sentences. I like the idea of a kind of batman type character (oh no I think I lost everybody). What I mean is someone who doesn't really have superhuman powers but compensates with intellect and a utility belt. Sure this person as with batman would still exhibit some above average strength and speed, but nothing matching the barbarian.

My contribution to the idea is a trip wire.

posted a message on Shooting for gold as main currency
    Quote from "Farmrush" »
I find this a little iffy. I imagine if they released D3 and had an item called 'gold' that would drop, but not actually be directly useful for anything, nobody would use it. Ever. Everyone would just throw it on the ground and have a dance party on the sparkling floor. Any trades would be for items. That needs to be addressed by having proper goldsinks and uses for gold that depend on something other than player-player interactions. If the game were strictly player-player interactions they would cut out the middleman, but by having player-npc interactions that revolve around gold, and only gold, you then can start to generate a rudimentary economy. This works in our system (I am in Canada, but we have the dollar too so I will just use that) by considering the government as a sort of npc, or collection of npcs, which only accepts the dollar as a trading item. Once that is established (and that is essentially how it was established when we moved away from the barter system) it will snowball into more and more player-player type interactions based around the dollar. This is without the exclusion of bartering, though, and that system ties in nicely with the dollar.

    I agree with this guy.

I doubt there will be any professions.

They can find other gold sinks to make gold valuable. Make an auction system were only gold is accepted. Allow for the purchase of extra inventory space, such as a vault. Maybe even make socketing a very expensive service you could pay a blacksmith for. It won't be hard for the to make gold valuable. It works in the real world every day.

The real world involves a set amount of money controlled by the government. They decide how much money to put into circulation. In a video game its like everyone has a money printing machine (kill monsters).

Hey I've seen that picture on the D3 website artbook page a few times. The thing is I've never seen any definitive answer on what the hell it is. Neither did I find any speculation about the subject. Does anyone have a clue what this "gem/gold mine" is? I mean we all know what a mine is but what would it mean in terms of D3.

I hope we delve into a mine to fight demons. I don't want to grab a pickaxe and go mining, if I did I would design and play "Old Willy's Mining Adventure".

Sorry but I just had to say something.
This guy must be living in a cave.

What is money? You know, cold hard cash. You can't really eat it, drink it, play with it, it's just money. However, the value goods are measured in money. Therefore, by trading something for money, it enables you to buy something else with money.

This basic principle is what I imagine the "new use" for gold.

To sum it all up, "gold" = "equivalent concept of US dollar"

Even better, you can think of that Diablo II site which has forum gold as their currency. The only thing blizzard would be doing is bypassing this 3rd party and creating their own currency in the form of gold in-game.

PS: I did not read any other threads. I saw this one and raged.

In the real world you make money by contributing something to society. With forum gold you contribute items to that "society". With in-game gold you can farm worthless gold from worthless mobs and expect to buy something good. Reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail...everyone will be out in the fields gathering and stacking filth.

posted a message on No paladins, please.
At the risk of repeating several other things I will say this.

WC3 pally was not overpowered. He was probably the best support with shield+heal, but he didnt do enough damage to be scary.
Diablo 2 pally was overpowered for one skill. Other than that skill it was a fun class to play that was not overpowered.
WoW pally has limitations and cryptonite just like any class. It is and probably always will be a game where each character has obvious weaknesses as well as obvious strengths. That's how they encourage diversity in instances. Its good for PvE but makes PvP frustrating imo.

That all said...pally in d2 greatly differs from the other pallys due to lack of heals which is a major part of the wow and wc3 paladins. So actually yes its pointless to bring them up here.
