posted a message on Witch Docs Mobility Skill
We're taking a close look at what those specific mobility issues were in Diablo II and could be in Diablo III, and yes we're certainly trying to be a bit smarter about planning for it. You specifically mention the witch doctor. With the way he plays and feels a big warp or jump around skill just doesn't really seem right for him, but he may have a trick or two up his sleeve...
I saw that Bashiok had responded to a question on the Bnet forums about mobility skills for each class and what he said that caught my attention was what I have quoted above(specifically the last sentence). I kind of think every class is going to get some kind of ability that will allow them to cross gaps.

As for the Witch Doc I am very interested to see what they come up with. I think it is going to be some kind of Spirit World type ability where the Witch Doc will turn into a type of spirit/ghost that has a hovering effect too it so he can hover over these gaps. He will not be immune to dmg though, he will just take less dmg from melee type attacks.

What does everyone else think the Witch Docs mobility skill will be?

Destrel you make a great point, and beyond all the tech reasons we have tossed around here that is largely why I only play LAN when I do. Mostly I play single player mode, but I like LAN once in a while. I don't play B.NET for several reasons which I'll just number down.

    1. Your bnet account gets waxed after 30 days of non-use, I like being able to take a few months off and come back and know my game is there.
    2. Unless you are playing with your friends (but then I'm doing LAN), people on bnet try to rush through the levels. Annoys the hell out of me as I like to clear each level before moving on so I get all the exp points possible. Often they want to challenge you, which just doesn't interest me, probably because I remember the macro losers of D1 who had nothing better to do than tricking people to let them into their games so they could screw it up.
    3. If I have a LAN party where I invite friends over it's seems kind of ridiculous for all of us to have to connect to a central server on the Internet just to play each other. If you have a slow link, despite the fact it is bandwidth friendly I have a rough time believing 4 or more connections all piping out across the same slow link won't start see some issues. Not to mention what if their is a local issue with my ISP and my service falls off for some reason, (an accidental fiber cut example). Poof! there goes our game, for all of us!
    4. If I have high latency or excessive errors in my connection, then my game is going to be choppy and less enjoyable.
If Blizzard does away with LAN, yeah I still buy the game and enjoy the single player mode, I certainly won't lose any sleep over it. That said Blizzard's logic for nix'ing adding LAN is very weak.

Well I am not for LAN and I am not against it, I see the pros and cons of both. As for your 4 points however:

    1) We have no idea how the new Battle Net 2.0 is going to work and I highly doubt Blizz is going to keep the 30 day no use policy especially since everyone is going to have to get a Battle Net Account which is going to look over all of Blizzards games, not just Diablo 3 so they can't possibly wipe anything out.

    2) No one ever said you have to play with people online that are not your real life friends, and there were already ways of keeping people you do not want to join your game out of your game by password protecting it. And if your real life friends do not play, you can probably find a guild with people who have the same game play ideals as you do.

    3) LAN: the two reasons I keep seeing for people wanting LAN is because their internet sucks(ok valid reason, and probably the only reason I see as being worthy of mentioning) and the second is to be sociable. Now if your internet is pretty decent and the only reason you want LAN is so you can talk to your friends, I would just like to point out the wide assortment of programs like Ventrillo and TeamSpeak that people can use to talk to each other over the internet while they play a game. Plus Blizz will probably have something like one of these programs directly built into Battle Net 2.0(they already have it for WoW) and that one will be free.

    4) Everyone has to deal with this happening to them, not just yourself. I have had many instances where my cable would go out for days(yes days) it sucks and I know how you feel.

The game is being made in a way that when your character are low on health and in the middle of a dungeon you still have to move on. You gotta move forward no matter what. This is being made to bring back the feeling of constant danger that was very present in D1 and died in D2.
At least thats my opnion about what I saw and read. And HOs fits this.

I completely agree with you that Blizz wants us to press on and fight constantly. However, to make us run into a fight with only 10 life is more of a penalty than a reward I think because there were no health orbs dropped and we do not have a health pot or it is on cooldown. I firmly believe there will be one more healing type option for us to counter those rare occurances of no health orbs and no health pots/pots on cooldown. I have no idea what it could be though.

The idea of Blizz revealing some new zones/dungeons is very nice. Gives us a chance to speculate some more about what kind of monsters and also story line we will see.

Make a rest function :P like 200% increase regeneration

I don't really think this will fit the fast paced game mechanic. I am not sure how you think it would be implemented, but to me is sounds like you will need to rest for a certain period of time in order to get the increased regen. If you are thinking of a different way it could be implemented to be more fast paced, please tell.

I agree Zhar, I would like to see an area update as well, and I think we will get that as the next update to tide us over until the big character update at Blizzcon.

I look at it this way, if your kids are age 15+ and you think they are still angels that have yet to hear a curse word or have never watched a Rated 'R' or 'MA' movie then you should probably become less of a workaholic and pay attention to your kids more. Who knows maybe you as a parent will learn something from your kids. There is no way kids will not be exposed to this kind of stuff so its better to just let it happen and to teach them that this kind of stuff is not appropriate but they have to deal with it.

I doubt an announcement tomorrow, probably because most people are off from work. My guess is that we get something this upcoming Thursday/Friday for the July 4th holiday weekend. There is nothing better than celebrating the holiday than with a nice update to quench our Diablo thirst.

I would not be surprised if Blizzard does the same thing to combat bots and hacks just like they are doing in WoW. They will probably make it so you have to install a program that will watch other programs being run on your machine when you play the game. You can't exactly run a bot or hack with out some other program anyway, and once it gets detected you will be banned. As for duping, Dimebog cleared that up nicely.

Are they going to have it so you run out of a room and they dont follow? I mean maybe if you do try to run away they could like...idk do something to prevent you. Im hoping it isent as simple as just running away waiting for cooldown get back to full health. To maybe stop something like this if you leave the boss area the boss is returned to full health.

Well if the fight with King Leoric from the blizzcon game play is any indication of boss fights then I would expect every boss fight to take place in a confined room/area and the only way out is kill or be killed. No resetting the boss by running away :) As for regular trash mobs, I am guessing there is no way around keeping a player from running away in a fight.

Edit: Plus, boss fights should not only be awesome fights with good loot rewards but they should also dictate whether a players character is good enough to move on to the next part of the game. It is pretty lame in D2 that you can just do hit and runs on the bosses to move on through the acts.

I love the idea of health orbs, and the fact that pots will be more rare. I was also thinking about solutions to the certain situations where a player could be at full health and have alot of extra health orbs sitting around and then later on the player could have very little health with no orbs around.

The solution I thought of is for every player to have a so called orb pot(not sure what you would call it), and when a player is at full health and you pick up a health orb, a percentage of the health that the orb would heal would then go into the orb pot. So the more orbs you collect at full health the more the pot would fill up. However, you would only have 1 of these pots that you can refill once used and you can only use it when you are not in combat.

I think this would take care of those rare situations I described above.

posted a message on Blizzard and Microsoft Xbox?
If the games from Blizz are both console and PC then I will of course stick with PC...I have one already, and I usually upgrade it for gaming anyway. No sense in buying something when I have something I like just as much to play games. However, if the games are console only(which I highly doubt will happen) then I will move on to some other type of PC game. I have nothing against consoles, I just don't see any sense in throwing away my money on something that will cause me to break up the limited amount of time I have to play video games between 2 systems just because games are console only.

They might as well sell a damn computer to people - thats what its shaping up to be.

Yeah but then they wouldn't be able to sell people both a computer and a computer which they just happen to call a console. If People are stupid enough to buy both so why not make more money right?

posted a message on D3 Barbarian - which style first ?
Battlemaster. The only reason I will choose battlemaster as my first play style for the barb is because I will most likely solo with him, so I will take living over killing fast. Plus he will not be my first class to play, most likely my last class to play or atleast the last class I will try. I will play him here and there, not all the time so it will be a slow climb anyway.

If not battlemaster though it will be a jugg, beserker just does not appeal to me for some reason.
