posted a message on Attribute point assignment
One thing that people forget is that game developers CREATE the rules for a game. They create literally EVERYTHING that happens (aside from glitches).

You can't even imagine how much detail is necessary to implement this stuff let alone make it playable to such an extent. Honestly, I've only recently started programming and developing games and I can't even imagine the level of detail involved .

The point to this statement is that people (in general) are dumb, and it is their job as game developers to both make the game accessible to allow new players and complex enough to interest veteran players like us. People hate change and it can only be cured with time. When D3 was first announced I couldn't imagine how many complaints there were in the forums because of the announcement gameplay trailer. Like the other guy said, they removed one mechanic to implement a dozen others that work together. If you look at Diablo II, its an extremely flawed game...

You, as well as hundreds of other gamers are used to using attribute systems for customization, but when you are told that it will be changed, you can't understand why/how they would do this, and what other possibilities are there. To end this, i'm just saying that once you actually play it and get used to the other new advanced methods of customization, I can guarentee you won't be worried about customizing your character.

posted a message on Automatic Town portal at the end of mission
Since town portals are officially gone (i think? or from what i understand)..how about when we complete a quest or a task, a town portal will automatically open for us, leading us straight to the vendor we need to see.

the worst thing in a game is when you spend an hour in a dungeon, and then when you finish, you need to run all the way back because it has no other end (like dark woods cave, which leads to black marsh) if i remember correctly...

    what you think?

posted a message on Betting on a PVP match
I made a few posts on how you can make wagers in PVP matches.

In short, this means if i challenge you to a duel, and you accept, we'd each put gold, items, materials, etc as a wager. The winner of the duel would win all the items and gold.

OR, the winner out of x number of duels wins all.

Its kind of stupid idea, but i'm just posting it because no one else posts their ideas at (4:45 in the morning)

what if a person could make a pool/bet. think of poker, how each person puts an amount in, and one person wins it all.
wouldn't it be so cool if you had a giant duel free for all, and the stakes were something totaling at 5,000 gold. or maybe even teams..

posted a message on Loot system
    Quote from keranov

Yes, I can see a lot of changes are going on lately. This is the reason why I'm asking if there is any information about looting (or any new information).

alright, lets see...( what i know about it)

    a) each player gets his own loot, meaning everything that drops is mine, and no one can see it/or pick it up
-if i pick something up and drop it, then every player can see it.

    B) the names should appear for a little while as they fall

    c) gold is automatically picked up if you walk near it

    d) when you kill monsters, health globes appear
-when ATTACKING champions and boss's, health globes have a chance to appear while attacking, and another chance when they die.

    e) when you find items, you can scrap them for materials (IE artisans)

    f) the items that drop, even though only you can see it, it isn't not something you can necessarily wear.
-some people say if i'm a barb, i should only find barb items.. (it isn't like this)
-any character can find any item that another could..

thats all i could think of relating to looting that i know of..any other questions? lol

posted a message on Hireling's skill tree
In light of my last post about Hirelings, I wanted to add that hirelings/merc's have went from random dudes you bought, to guys you can customize.

to advance this customization of armor, weapons, etc. your merc should also have a small skill tree and stat tree (this one isn't auto assigned) which will allow you to choose his abilities and how he will develop as a fighter.

Its true you buy a special type of merc, such as a caster, but why can't you choose what skills he posses. I want my merc to have chain lightning, while you want fire balls.

then maybe you can adjust which is his primary and secondary spells.. :)

posted a message on Mercenaries / Hirelings
I think its a great aspect of the game that you can hire a "person" with a special skill. I liked it even more that in DII lod you could adjust their character with armor, weapons, and leveling them too.

Hirelings (as i think they are called), what types would you like to see in DII

From what i can think of at the moment: (just rough idea)

-sorcerer/caster: casts fireballs, lightning, the typical spell book..blizzard..etc
-archer: typical archer, flaming arrows, arrow net, etc..
-assassin/spy: can lay traps for you, and can enchant you to give an advantage against a certain enemy
    -brute: uses sword and shield..
    -pikeman: enough said..
-bodyguard: the job of this hireling is to absorb some damage for you, while attacking very little.
He could offer you some buffs, but when you get attacked, he will try to teleport in the way of it, or run to defend you
-leach: this hireling has no attack, but he has a certain skill that allows him to drain the enemies powers. This allows your merc to attack an enemy with its own ability.

    post your own ideas...

    ADDED:

    Airandius - Tamed Animals.

posted a message on New Skills at High Levels
If you follow up with the developers comments, then you probably always notice them saying they want to make it fun, and fix the problems DII had. They always commented on mechanics that made DII annoying or slowed the pace.

What I want to discuss is mainly satisfaction. For instance, when you finally spent hundreds of hours on your sorc just to get her to level 99, which is a very high number, but still 1 number away from the great 100!

Level numbers are very inadequate, in my opinion, but still an important factor of a game. What concerns me more, is seeing ALL of my characters skills by the time I reach level 30 (example from DII). More specifically, I mean being ABLE to get the most powerful skill at level 30.

It leaves a sort of emptiness that "this" is all your character has. I know that right after you reach that level that grants you all skills, you start to work on maxing each important skill out.

I suggest 2 things that will leave you wanting to keep leveling to see what other skills you get.

    1) - I don't necessarily like this one, but what the heck. You add High level "devestation" type skills. These are skills that those level 80's through 90's get. These skills are attached to the regular skill tree. Since I don't really like this version, I won't go into detail (but its to give you a contrast).

    2) = In this version of the idea, your skill trees remain EXACTLY how they are. Since we expect to see a lot of endgame content, and some high level enemies for those "maxed" out players (at level 80-100). There are 2 ways to do this idea. At a level like level 85, you receive a very long and difficult side-quest (like a taskforce in COH, just not as long) and once you complete it, you would unlock a separate skill tree with devestator attacks. There can be maybe 3-5 attacks, and you can choose ONLY 1. These attacks are all AOE, and not too overpowered; there is a long cooldown, and it uses a good amount of mana/stamina..etc.

The other idea, is since this is an item game, to make these devestator attacks more rare, they could be imbued in scrolls. This means that the level that you can use these skills is lower at maybe 70. This means that you will kill monsters and if the "Imbued Scroll of Power" (whatever the name) is dropped, you can take this scroll and either right click it and keep the power, or it is used as a charm, meaning you have to hold it for it to work.

Once you have this "power" or charm, you can choose 1 devastator attack. Maybe other items can upgrade it..etc.

Ideas for Devestator attacks: Since these are attacks that SHOULD be used in emergencies, and should have some consequence they could be defensive, offensive..etc.
Names and ideas are not the final ideas...just on top of my head
    1) Witch doctor = Zombie Fortress
    - This is like Zombie wall, except the zombies circle around you and attack the enemies (you can't attack during this time), either the enemies break the "fortress" or the time runs out. While the zombies are around you, you can't be hit; the fortress can be broken.

    2) Wizard = Time Distortion
    - Since the wizard controls time, this could be a kind of nova blast with a medium radius where any monster in it gets temporarily frozen in time. After 5-10 seconds they will unfreeze, attack and move slowly for 2 seconds, then return to normal..

DON'T FLAME, its just an idea. The point is to have some type of major attack that you can't get early on. This is supposed to be a powerful AOE attack, or defense. The minor details such as time it lasts, level you can get it or damage aren't the point. The point is getting skills later on in the game.
These attacks will most likely be disabled or ineffective for PVP.

posted a message on New name instead of Noobs
I've been reading through the forum for a few mins, and I've seen the word Noob, Newb, NOOBZ at least 50 times.

I was just wondering, since this trilogy has been around for a long time:
    -Diablo I, 1996
    -Diablo II, 1999
    -Diablo II: LOD, 2001
-Diablo III: Estimate at December 2010

Most of the people have played this game from the beginning in 1996, or was it 97? Well, obviously, a game this big is going to get a few million more sales than D2 got, and we will see a bunch of people who have NEVER played any of the Diablo games.

I was wondering what would you call these people. Do you think the word noob will cut it? Lets see if you guys can come up with a word to call all those people who have no idea wtf they are doing. (We all know that feeling when we start a new game thats been around for a long time)

Try coming up with a new word that we (diablo fans) can call "noobs" other than "noobs". Maybe it would catch on if its catchy enough?
