rockstar posted a message on D3 Soundtrack?I really enjoyed the guitar parts from the D2 music. In fact I felt that the SOUNDs from D2 were what kept me playing for so many years. The graphics have long been outdated, and the story was old after the first time you beat the game on normal difficulty with the first character you ever made like 10 years ago. But the sound it makes when you create a new barb, walk out into the blood moor, and club a zombie is still so satisfying! And at least as important was the music. I loved the D2 act 1 music.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
I'd love to hear more about the music and sound design for D3, as I believe these components are MOST critical to creating a great game! -

Zhar posted a message on What happens after ??Pretty sure this hasn't been discussed much, and if it has, I was completely unable to find it.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
But anyways.
So, as some of us remember reading back when D3 was first announced, the guys at Blizzard are planning on closing up the prime evil story.
Now, we obviously can't be sure how they'll close up the story arc, but let's assume the heros in D3 manage to kill all of the prime/lesser evil in Hell, since that seems to be the general goal of all of the Diablo games."We're not saying this is the end of the Diablo universe, but we are trying to bring this storyline to a close. It's not just Diablo III -- we've got plans beyond."
But then what?
Will they bring back Diablo once more? Will one of the evils slip away in the fight, to send the hordes of Hell to earth without any infighting with other evils? Or will peoples suspicions come true, and will we finally be fighting off the forces of Heaven?
Or, will we even be fighting to save sanctuary anymore?
Maybe the tables will turn, and in the next installment, we'll be fighting as a demon, trying to enslave the human race.
Honestly, I can't see us fighting Heaven once this story is closed. It has way too much potential to piss off religious groups, even if it's a different vision of Heaven than some envisioned by religious groups.
One of the Evils escaping, or simply reviving them, seems a more likely scenario to me. Perhaps even a character like Bartuc the Bloody, who was working for demons and whatnot, will be reincarnated and gain rulership over the scattered forces of Hell. Or, perhaps the same could happen with his brother Horazon.
Anywho, thoughts?
Basically, the question here is, how do you think Blizzard will close up the current storyline, and what will happen after it's closed? -

Vnom posted a message on D3 Soundtrack?Posted in: Diablo III General DiscussionQuote from "Psyxix" »Seriously, at this point it's more about style than composition. Mr. Emmanuel here definatelly has the perfect style to fit the diablo universe. Listen to the d1 tristram theme, the echos, the uplifting and downgrading bits vehiculed in the track. I can find the same phases in the track jamoose found. It's simple, if you add a flute to the mix and some violins.... you have an epic song.
I tend to dislike orchestral tracks in certain cases such as representations of evil/villainy because they bring too much debt to the emotions. Evil is simple, it's lonely, it corrupts, it has one and only one goal....bring misery and pain. I like the guitar because it can bring you in and out of the abyss with it's large harmonic library. Low/high frequencies can be attained and in contrast with a high pitch instrument such as a voice or a flute you can really bring a wide variety of emotions/sounds up. If I was to make a diablo orchestral track, I would certainly make sure that I have at least a majority of string instruments and a large choral. I can understand that a game with only guitar+voice+flute+violon soundtracks can get annoying after a while but when it's instored in a balanced harmonic composition with orchestral pieces... you have a wonderful atmosphere of prevaling evil and impending encounters with wickedness.
Anyway, I don't know if you guys share my point of view but I'm pretty sure that I agree with myself ;)!!!
I agree with the following statement. -

VegasRage posted a message on Experienced with 3d max?Posted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo)Quote from "Jamoose" »I went yesterday to some college and asked about 3d design courses. They had a course that is consisted of 40 hours of photoshop, then moving on to a 50-100 hours of 3d studio max, and its all one on one... meaning me and the teacher.
Now i want to consult some of the guys here who have experience with these kind of programs, please answer these few questions or just comment about anything you think is necessary.
I've worked in IT for about 20 years starting in tech support for Adobe in 89 and later in engineering and have supported developers, graphics, 3D animators, and CAD on both PC and Mac's. I have also taught IT courses in corporate colleges.

I want to study this as a hobby and then maybe develop it as a profession.
Is 3d max a good program? Why should i study it, and not Maya or any other 3d prog?
It depends on what your career objectives are and what you see yourself doing in the long run. Degree's mean little in this field, they will get your foot in the door but for what you are considering a portfolio of work will be your biggest aid starting out, so make sure you keep all you do, at least the good stuff.
3D Studio Max is a well respected application and if you learn it will shorten the learning curve on similar applications. There are other well respected apps too each with various strengths, learn their strengths and you will have a better idea if it will work for your purposes. Here are few:
Lightwave

Maya (they make AutoCAD too)

I am paying 50 dollars more or less per hour for this course, 100 hours will be 5000 dollars, what you think?
They said that if i go for 100 hours for 3d max, i will know the program really good and almost every aspect of it, is that right? and will i be able to download some other program and play with it until i figure it out? i mean technically. And yes, i learn things pretty fast.
Any other comments or help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
100 hours is really not that much time, but it's about the same as most tech school courses. As an educator I taught 8 week courses to people who were trying to develop a career in IT administration. The courses were $19/k for an AA degree but the truth is this.
If you have a drive to know the material you will do well, an instructor is simply going to get your feet wet in the application, the honing of your skills will take much more time and effort. In my classes 1 out of every 10 students put in the effort to make a career for themselves, the others were wasting their time and money. After 6 years of teaching I had roughly 800 students pass though my class room and I can only think of about 20 tops I would go out of my way to hire today. Even 8 weeks of the courses I taught only allowed me to teach the basics in hands on intensive lab driven classes.
So the moral of the story is if you have a real passion to get into 3D animation or graphic arts there is nothing that will stop you if you are hell bent on it. The other thing to consider is even though these are applications, there is still an artistic bend to it, you still need to have a good eye and an artistic skill that will make you marketable. If you have that already, then application will simply become another medium for you to express yourself.
Ironically I didn't go to school for any computer courses, I started with book's, lots of them and got into entry level positions and worked my way up into more technical positions. To give you an idea when I did support for Adobe we had a crash lab in the back any of us could use and we had PC's on carts we could roll up to our desk with all of Adobe's applications on them.
Most people never used the crash lab and only played games on the mobile PC's, after my shift was over at 10 PM, I would go in the back and teach myself Photoshop, Pagemaker, FrameMaker, etc. for another 3 to 4 hours every night until I knew it like the back of my hand. I also read all the user guides (yes those boring things :D) The same was true in all my positions, that was my college. Some people do well in class room settings, if you are one and know you have the drive for this, then 3 weeks might be just what you need to get started. I would recommend though to check out other schools before settling on one, find out who your instructor is and make sure you have a good rapport with them. Some teachers can suck and nothing will waste your time and money faster than a bad instructor. -

Number1SuperGuy posted a message on Experienced with 3d max?I know this is thread is a few days old but I'll just offer my insight real fast. 3DS Max and Maya are both pretty similar, and both very good programs for modeling. Whether you use one versus another is mostly a small matter of preference, but Maya does have better/easier functions for animation/rendering (in my opinion). My personal preference is Maya, but everyone is different.Posted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo)
In other words, learn whichever one you want, and then you should be able to learn the other with relative ease. In 20 hours you should have a very firm understanding of how the program works and how to make some basic models. In 100 hours you ought to know a lot more intricacies and some of the tricks of the trade, they might even let you dabble with some plug-ins.
Both Maya and 3DS Max can be learned through self-study, but not everyone is up to that. Plus you won't learn a lot of the jargon and other nuances. Self-study in 3D programs is a lot like learning kung-fu from watching movies... it's possible to learn some great technique, but most of the info out there just skims surfaces and it's hard to link it all together. Your best bet would be to find an in-depth tutorial that will take you from beginner level to master level. I'd link you to one if I knew of such a tutorial
$5000 for 100 hours isn't bad, but if you're just doing it as a hobby I wouldn't pay for it. I'd only spend $5000 on it if you're fairly certain you want to pursue it as a career. The downside is you'll never really know if you've got what it takes without getting your feet wet, and you can't really get your feet wet without buying the programs which run about $2000 each.
My advice: Download Blender. Blender is a free 3D design tool with which you can play around and see if 3D design is something you want to do professionally. Plus, if you learn the basics of Blender you'll have a firm footing in 3D design and it'll be much easier to learn the professional programs. -

Siaynoq posted a message on The Best Diablo ServersI used to have this theory, and bear with me while I explain this. Most people already understand that D2 fans are a relatively obscure group of gamers who have a sometimes strange sense of loyalty to this game. Many of us are also walking encyclopedias of D2 and understand all the lore, game mechanics, and character builds out there. We all kind of know we're a little weird and sheltered. We hate elves and orcs, and love Diablo for not having any of those things. Especially for not having gay ass dragons in our beloved franchise. We even play Diablo 1 from time to time because it's still a great game and we'll never forget all our wonderful memories associated with playing it.Posted in: Diablo I & Hellfire
Among many other franchises, the Diablo community is regarded somewhat as a bunch of mutants. But let me tell you about a strange group of sub-mutants that the average D2 fans have nightmares about. These are the darkest, greasiest, AOL-est, weirdest bunch of Diablo fans you've ever heard of.
I'm talking about the Diablo fans who are still lurking in basements somewhere and playing Diablo online via a dial up connection and calling other people's computers using their phones. These people still log on to AOL and constantly ignore the prompt to upgrade to AOL 6.0 Today! They all covet a Staff of the Apocalypse, and an Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac. From time to time they hear rumors, whispers, of a possible sequel to Diablo 1. They suspect it's just some ZMud trolls playing jokes on them. Their vast connection of other Diablo 1 players would have alerted them immediately of a Diablo 2. And the notion of a Diablo 3 is laughable as their opponent's weak ass Elemental spell.
These people are even unaware of the energy drink craze. The one that is sweeping the nation and ensaring WoW players into a high blood pressure workout minus any real physical activity. These people actual make coffe like drinks. But not any kind of good coffee. It's those powdered Internation House of Coffee flavor coffees that you just add hot water too. This is what they're drinking to stay up all night. They still manage to have a supply of Red Ropes even though the rest of the world finds those extremely hard to find. Now it's either simply Red Vines or those Red String ones that have the six strands of licorice around the center piece.
These guys occasionally take a night out to meet outside a Dee's restaurant, smoke cigarettes, and debate the usefulness of the Golem spell. Later they will simply go back home to their parents' basements, get "online" with their telephones and pray no one picks up the phone while they are playing. For shits and giggles, they even play Warcraft 2 just to laugh at how inferior it is to Diablo and think to themselves it's no wonder they never made a Warcraft 3.
I think this guy, ladies and gentleman, this guy right here who made this thread, is one of those super elusive sub-mutants who accidentally reached out to a community that exists in the future. Is he dreaming? Is any of this real? He does not know. He is frightened and lost and out of Red Ropes.
It's all that, or we're just experiences a language barrier problem. -

necro2607 posted a message on "World" section pro-looking wallpaperHey guys,Posted in: Diablo Wallpaper and OS Art
I whipped up this wallpaper which almost looks as if it's a legit Diablo 3 wallpaper from Blizzard.
I ripped the graphics from the Diablo 3 website (specially the "World" section), and then used Flash to grab a decent quality version of the Diablo logo, which I added in with Photoshop. Simple, but I think it looks awesome. Good thing Blizzard has such ultra nice site designs, eh?
1600x1200 size. It's the only size I made, because the source images from the Diablo 3 site were 1600px wide - this way there's no notable loss of quality. Let me know if you need a resize (anything smaller), and I can scale it down or crop as needed.
If you want to include this on your own website, at least send me a note at necro2607 at gmaildotcom. Thanks in advance for anyone who wants to feature it on their fansite. Hope you like!

Actually, one funny thing this wallpaper shows to you - notice how the world sphere is slightly off-center? I kept thinking I had the logo misaligned but it's just that Blizzard got the planet image off-center. The stuff above and below is nicely centered at the 800px mark. hehe, guess they didn't expect such critiquing of their webpage background.... - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
