I spent the last few days to play D2, and now I finally finished, thank you guys for the encouragement. really have to say is pretty cool game, yet still I wish the map was smaller...
I agree with permax, let's see some evidence supporting that Diablo is the strongest.

Ok, my theory is "The Butcher Demon" in Diablo 1 is Darrick Lang's father, and who the hell is Darrick Lang? tip: the leading character in diablo novel "the black road".

which gives his farther more than enough time to go to tristram if something evil draws him there, and by something evil, of course, I mean diablo.

Ummm, I'm a huge fan of Diablo's, ive played Diablo 1 a couple times, but never finished Diablo 2, guess i'm not that patient about the vaaaaaast environments.^_^
I did read a lot of Diable novels though, except "moon of the spider". The lores and legends just seem to facinate me more than the game itself.:)
