posted a message on Fired Blizzard Tester
    Fake... so obviously fake.

    EDIT: Boo hoo im stupid

Anyways, here's why I think its fake:

Level design? In what order? I.E: Does the desert come second act, or later?
first act: tristram and surrounds (monastery, leoric castle, etc)
second act: desert as you guys already know
third act: something they called the bastion keep. really shit act.
fourth act: begins where the meteor hits, then you descend into hell

This guy is seriously trying to play off the idea that Blizzard is going to make an entire act of the game take place in one building? LOL!

    Why’d you get fired?
I was just too honest and said things they didn’t like

Grade A bullshit. Blizzard is used to harsh criticism and evaluation of their work, which is part of the reason why they re-do everything a billion times. As an example, from the Diablo 3 panel from Blizzcon 2009, Jay Wilson was talking about how they hurt the effects artists feelings a little bit when it was brought up that the dune dervish had a better whirlwind than the barbarian and that the skill needed to be re-done. There are other things too like more recently when Jay was talking about how the UI art was "not awesome" yet.

Well, the obvious one first, did they completely ruin everything we love about it from Diablo 2?
Not everything, the loot sucks and the level design makes the game boring, just like torchlight level design

Big oversight from the hoax maker: The Diablo 3 gameplay video came out before Torchlight was publicly revealed. The idea that D3's style was influenced by Torchlight is stupid.

    What are the system requirements?
very low system requirements. It is more scallable than torchlight. You can play with a geforce 6 or any shit laptop from 3 years ago (on low settings, obviously)

A shit laptop from 3 years ago? Not likely...

“i was just too honest and said things they didn’t like.” What where you saying that they didn’t like?
as a tester, my job is finding bugs and doing what they call 100% coverage run test. but they called us in meetings that asked us our opinions about a lot of things. i said the game was boring and doomed to be a failure.

100% coverage run test before the game is finished?

what’s metzen like in person? pardo? samwise?
they are normal people, doing their jobs. i have nothing against them. the problem with blizzard are their rh department and some very stupid women with psychology mds trying to moderate the teams

In house psychologists? This is just getting weird now.

Like I said before, so obviously fake its not even funny.

I don't know very much about MacBooks or Apple hardware in general. If you post the specific models you're looking at though I'll do my best to figure out if the specs are good enough for gaming.

Awesome, these are all the ones I'm looking at:

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
    4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    250GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
    8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.53GHz Intel Core i5
    15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display (1440 x 900 pixel)
    4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    500GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
    8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory

    New 2011 MacBook Pro. 13-inch: 2.3 GHz
    2.3GHz dual-core
    Intel Core i5
    4GB 1333MHz
    320GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000

    New 2011 MacBook Pro. 15-inch: 2.0 GHz
    2.0GHz quad-core
    Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz
    500GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    AMD Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB GDDR5

Hmm I think most of these systems will run the game on low, but probably not more than 30 FPS so be prepared for some choppiness at times. As for the CPU, it's a bit of a hard call. Go for the ones with higher clock speed (more GHz) if you get a dual core. Quad core is likely the best, however.

I know you want a mac, but I want to take a moment and point out how ridiculously overpriced they are. If you are going to spend up to $1500 you could buy a windows-based gaming laptop that will be capable of running Diablo 3 on high graphics settings with very smooth frame-rates. You could run other modern games smoothly on high settings as well. Since the processor will be faster, any other stuff you do (Video editing, watching HD videos, ect) will run faster as well.

If you want a Mac just be aware that you're taking a significant hit in performance.

In any case I think we’re estimating a longer game than Diablo II right now, regardless of actual comparable act size.

Thander hits the nail on the head: There is no difference between WoW, Starcraft 2, and Diablo 3 accounts any more. My battle.net account was hacked one time and I got it back through Blizzard support easily. All of your Blizzard games (definitely anything running on bnet 2.0 which includes Diablo 3) are linked together on a single Battle.net account which has full access to Blizzard support for account recovery.

While I love almost everything I've seen from Diablo 3, the removal of pentagrams is really disappointing. I can definitely see some religious idiots freaking out and making a big stink about it. To be honest though, the fucking name of the game is "Diablo" so they're already going to piss off the uber religious crowd anyways. Might as well have left them in IMO...

posted a message on May 9th Conference Call
The thing is, if Blizzard wasn't sure about starting the Diablo 3 beta in their last conference call, it's hard to imagine that they would have been sure that by May 5th they would be ready to begin. They would have needed to be far enough along by the February conference call that within three months or so they could say with certainty that they would be ready for beta testing. If that's the case, then the game is a little bit further along than I expected.

However, whether or not they were set on a beta date in February doesn't have a whole lot of relevance as to whether or not the beta will actually be announced in May. Because of that, I'm hoping that they will announce it. XD

I been dreaming abut Diablo 3 since i out played D2 Massively many times. Probably 6-7 years now. And trust me man i try'd to fill my Diablo addiction with hundreds of other game's. I enjoyed alot of em really..But Diablo is like Hottest girl u dated . Or the best movie u seen, or heroin if u will NOTHING will come close to the real deal.

I've got to agree with you there. It's quite sad really that after ten years Diablo 2 is still the best of the hack n slash genre by far. Torchlight almost came close but fell flat on its face with a lack of multiplayer and seriously uninteresting itemization. Torchlight 2 might top it, but even if it does it won't be on top of the podium for long because Diablo 3 is going to completely wreck face. Everything that Blizzard touches turns to gold it seems. If they make a game, it just becomes the best game of its genre.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Music is Insane
The Diablo 3 music is good, but I think overall Blizzard has really lost their edge for writing awesome music since the old days. Here's the original Tristram theme:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2evIg-aYw8&feature=related

The music starts out calm but melancholy, a depiction of the hard lives of the village townspeople. The chord change at about 10 seconds in gives the listener the first hint of the dark corruption that is to come. All throughout the start of the song, things get bleaker and more evil sounding. It switches between being sad and being ominous. At around 1:12 it kicks in more. Hope hasn't vanished completely, but things are going downhill. Then is slows down again, more sadness. Things become more confused and psychedelic at around 2 minutes in. Different emotions drift in and out, blending together, perhaps representing the onset of insanity, or the sad remembrance of a nice life that is slowly vanishing. Things get a little repetitive for a while, but then at 4 minutes in the song takes a turn again. Here the onset of doom seems much more certain. This part of the song seems like the final acceptance of the trials to come. At 4:53 things really start to get dark. Around 5:10 the song portrays an emotion of being thoroughly worn out and devastated. The song then goes into a phase that sounds much more corrupted and defeated than before. Now the hopeful tones are much more of a memory. Things become more discordant in general. Any ray of hope is immediately followed up by something evil sounding. Then, the rest of the song really seems to examine the situation from the standpoint that a tragedy has occurred, and reflects on the terrible things that have happened.

While the Diablo 3 music is good, it just doesn't seem nearly as deep or interesting in comparison. I also think that the new Diablo 3 music isn't as technically advanced as the original music. There are much less cool experimental techniques, just a generic sounding orchestra. The skillful and creative play of the guitarist is absent from any of the orchestral stuff.

Another example, not Diablo related, of Blizzard's long lost musical genius is the Starcraft 1 soundtrack. Here is the Terran music:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnbCXkAYTGE&feature=related

The Starcraft 2 music is almost a complete failure in my opinion. The Terran theme in SC2 is OK, but it borrows all the best parts from the SC1 music anyways. The Zerg and Protoss music in SC2 fucking sucks though compared to the original.

It just seems to me that Blizzard's old songs really described a long and intricate narrative, as well as featuring a lot of great experimental techniques that are just uncommon in general. Nowadays Blizzard songs either seem like they're just amped up to max intensity from start to finish, or that they're just really ambient and boring.

    ---

I don't want to rag on the Diablo 3 music completely. There is actually one song from Diablo 3 that I quite like, which is the music featured in the second b-roll video from Blizzcon 2009:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oeJaDVrBag

This music really captures a great set of emotions for me. Even though it is slow, there seems to be an extreme intensity within it. When juxtaposed with the gameplay footage it gives me a really great image: that of the human heroes battling against an endless horde of monsters with all of their strength. They continue to push forwards, crushing foe after foe, and yet never get closer to their ultimate goals. Their apparent success is like a tease as the clock continues to run out for sanctuary. Despite killing and killing, there are just more monsters swarming them and the defenseless people they're trying to protect. The music does calm down a little bit a few minutes in. The listener is serenaded with chilling solos from the classical plucked instrument (anyone know what instrument that is?). The total bleakness of Sanctuary's future slowly sinks in as the song simmers darkly.

At least when these threads usually pop up there is a speculated release or a supposed leak or something similar. You pretty much linked an article that states things that everyone on this forum already knows. In fact, Blizzard has stated that it's their hope to release Diablo 3 in 2011, but that it may be delayed into early 2012.

So what bosses do we know about so far?

    We know..

    Skeleton King (A1)
    Thousand Pounder (A1)
    Siege Breaker (?)

And we're going to assume Diablo, though I don't think there has been any kind of direct confirmation of that. :D

Any others I'm missing? What about ones you want to see? Do you want to see Mephisto and Baal again?

There is also the Mistress of Pain.

    Gameplay first.

Gameplay = D2 (What do you mean by gameplay?)
    Graphics = Similar to WoW

Wrong, the graphics are not similar to WoW. Have you played WoW?

By the way, IMO Diablo 3 has the best graphics of any video game I have ever seen. And by good graphics I'm not talking about photo-realism, which is only important to shallow chumps.

As far as gameplay goes, I don't know how you can say that Diablo 3 hasn't evolved the gameplay of the genre. The original D3 gameplay video was the most influential force on the entire hack n slash genre when it came out. Now every hack and slash game is trying to copy the apparent style of Diablo 3 (even Torchlight, which was announced AFTER the Diablo 3 gameplay video came out. It shows too, most notably the undead city in Torchlight looks like a complete ripoff of the Tristram Cathedral in D3 except not as good).

I'm not too worried about it. For one thing Blizzard has really stepped up their advertising around release times since they merged with Activision. They put a bunch of dramatic ads on TV now like any other big release does. Plus anyone who isn't already following the development of Diablo 3 isn't necessarily going to have a harder time noticing the game if it is delayed by a few months.

Besides, Diablo 3 will cause a news shitstorm on most PC gaming websites when it finally comes out.

I agree with everything except your analysis of the pro Starcraft 2 scene. The level of play in the SC2 scene has consistently increased since the start of the beta. Your complaints about death ball armies that just clash and die before the game abruptly ends is becoming obsolete pretty quickly, and this is not a consequence of any balance patches either.

The pure fact of the matter is that we can't evaluate whether or not SC2 or SC1 has more potential to be exciting because SC1 players are just so much better than SC2 players. The kind of amazing shit that Flash and Jaedong pull off is leagues beyond what even the greatest SC2 players have been able to achieve. The only way SC2 is gonna catch up is with more time for people to practice and figure it out.

Remember that some of the greatest things about SC1 were invented years after the game was release (and after an expansion pack). It's not like people were doing muta micro the day it came out.
