I personally think it will be much better as an actual passive. Maybe you could pick both or choose which you summon if you invest in both skills. I definately think that it should not only add damage but add that effect and extra damage when you blow them up.
I think a good idea would be like fire mongrels get extra fire damage on melee and apply a dot (show monsters burning when its applied) when they attack. When you sacrifice them, they explode with a fiery blast, damaging enemies and also inflicting a fire dot. These guys would help a lot in big battles with strong monsters and bosses. Powerful in single target, but has aoe backup.
Locust mongrels would be aoe based. When they strike it inflicts with locust plague, hitting the target and then passing to nearby enemies. Very good for big groups and bosses with a lot of cronies. On explosion it would emit a big blast of locusts that infect and spread. It would eventually be like a locust swarm nova.
That's just a few ideas though. I'm insterested to see these bigger versions, do we have any pics of those or have we not seen that yet? It sounds like it would be sweet.

Jul 27, 2009Morden79 posted a message on Bashiok on "Barbarian Fury" and "Gore" in Diablo 3I just see a lot of problems with this system. Here is my two cents.Posted in: News
First off, if 3 globes is the max, they already botched the Barb, especially if an ability like WW costs 3 globes on its own. Sure, swarms would probably give you a nearly endless supply of fury, but what about harder individual monsters. And what happens if you get hit a lot harder? Will amount of damage reflect fury gained? What about bosses, and those special monsters that were supposed to make the game more dynamic?
Lets take for example the Berserkers. They hit pretty hard, but avoiding them is the trick. These are something you would want to get rid of quickly, but if you are trying to avoid his hits then you are just going to have to normal melee him to death? That sounds weak. What happens when you come up against certain mob combos, such as Berserkers/Cultists in the gameplay demo? You want to get rid of those cultists before they become much more powerful and get overwhelmed by a ton of heavy hitters, but now you can't just instantly react with a leap attack to smash them? No, now you gotta slap some guys and get slapped around before you can actually retaliate with some powerful attacks another class would be able to use right off the bat.
And what about bosses? Sure as a Barb you could take way more hits than a Wizard or Witch Doctor, but do you really want to be taking its damage on purpose to gain specials faster? If you don't then you have to melee him to death before you can get out a special. If you do get hit, I would surely hope you get a LOT more fury because of the power and nature of the hit so you can retaliate effectively.
I'm sorry, but I just can't see this working very well with Diablo unless we see some major improvements to the system at Blizzcon 09. Fury/Rage systems work pretty well on MMOs for a few reasons. For on, the classes that use them were generally being healed constantly or had abilities that generated a lot of rage easily. Also, MMOs have a tenancy to be much slower paced than a game such as Diablo. I won't lose hope in the Barb till I really get a chance to play it after release, but I truly hope by Blizzcon this system has been truly fixed or just trashed for the classic mana methods. -
May 13, 2009Morden79 posted a message on Bashiok on "Skill Trees" in Diablo 3.Honestly, I have thought long and hard about this system, and I see places where it will succeed and places where it will phail. I think it is way to early to really even give an opinion at this point, its time I wait patiently for Blizzcon09 to see what really happens.Posted in: News

So you want a shape-shifting ranged character? Like, superdruid or something? That sounds a little OP.

I do like that Chi idea however. Chi seems like it would fit him quite well. I don't know if it would just be another name for mana, or similar to an energy system, but Blizz would really have to work their asses off the make it work right. I still cant figure out how their current Fury system is going to make it into the box. Sure, they fixed how he plays in AoE combat, but how the hell are you supposed to fight bigger single targets? Just hope you can melee them to death? PvP for the Barb is starting to sound pretty lame. I am sure they are going to have to do something to fix that. Its funny too because basically they want to give the Barb almost unlimited energy, but without literally giving him unlimited energy. I don't think it can be done, but I hope they prove me wrong.

Secondly, I plan to finish reading the Harry Potter series. I started reading them again from the first after I watched the 6th movie, and now I am on the 5th book. When I get to the part where (spoiler, highlight over it) Snape kills Dumbledore I am probably going to read and memorize that page till I can recite it by heart. Then my friend and I are going to proceed in making Death Eater temporary tatoos, walk around random places, and tell people "Fuck Dumbledore's Army, Death Eaters for life!". I really have no life.
Borderlands looks pretty cool too, can't wait for it's release. That might hold me off for a while along with Modern Warfare 2. Spliter Cell: Conviction was looking good for a while, but it not looks like they butchered it pretty bad. DAMN YOU UBI-MONTREAL!!!

You do realize that they just announced the new WoW expansion, Cataclysm, yesterday right? Mike Morhein (butchered that probably) said himself that they are shooting to release it as the second previously mentioned game to come out in 2010. Jay Wilson simply says D3 will be out when its ready, and they seem far from it. Though their ranged class has some skills and a placeholder animation, they haven't even decided for sure that the idea they are using is going to be the one. They still don't really know on it.
That being said, they gotta get that straight, finish the content (which might take em a little), bring all the items and such, create the difficulties, and balance the game hard. I almost don't think it should take 2 more years, but if you add a beta on top of that, it does make sense.

Is this a brand new change? I personally never heard about this. I was pretty sure only Wizards had a skill that made here drop mana globes, and WD was supposed to rely on soul harvest. Idk, maybe I got it all wrong. I really hope we can find out what the Monk uses tho.

Thats another thing I have had in mind. Just because it isn't coming in 2010 as we had thought doesn't mean it cannot come eary in 2011. I for some reason don't see this game needing a whole extra 2 years, but then again what do I know? Maybe a year and a half? I would like to think I will be able to play Diablo 3 before I turn 21, but it looks more and more like I'm going to get there first...
I just hope Blizzcon isn't the end of the information. Last year a lot of info came out here and there after Blizzcon. About 3 months before it they stop giving us stuff, but still, I wanna see some stuff between now and Blizzcon 2010. I hope for some Blizzcasts (that actually say some Diablo shit) and some official page updates.

Anyhow, on to the main topic, I am curious as to whether or not he would use mana or something else but similar. I mean, Barb is using Fury now, and on WoW hunters are using energy now (different, but prime examples of Blizzard mixing it up a bit). What I want to know first and foremost, for anyone who played the demo at Blizzcon or know someone who did, did he use mana in the demo? I have no clue, none of the vids I see have a UI. Maybe I can catch a glimpse of it on the live feed tomorrow. I could see them using some sort of energy for this guy for the fact that he is so fast and agile, yet at the same time the fact that he uses holy magic makes me think he will be a mana based fighter at the same time.
Any news on this?

Also, I love how you won't be require to carry a "weapon" per se. They did mention fist weapons, which "technically" is a weapon, however its based off hand to hand. We may see some claws and such, however I am hoping for some brass nucks and such as well. Personally tho, I love the way he looks with a staff. I just can't wait to see some talent lists from the gameplay demo.

Borderlands looks sweet. I don't remember if there is a release date or not, but I do know it looked pretty sweet. Hope its good when it comes out. I am personally an FPS fan as well, so obviously Modern Warfare 2 is high on my list. I am also hoping a few others will hold me up too, such as Splinter Cell: Conviction, but that one looks a little sad at this point.

I was actually personally thinking about a late 2010 release date, however at the time I made such a prediction I had no clue about Cataclysm. Once I heard about it I knew it would be coming out first if they announced it at Blizzcon. Here we are, they did release Cataclysm, and now I am personally not surprised at all.
I will admit, I'm a little bummed for the fact that I can't wait for this game, but at the same time I will know they will take their time to make Diablo 3 what it needs to be.

Diablo 3 is coming along quite nicely tho. New areas, Monk unleashed, and it appears Belial will be appearing. In the cinematic the monk calls this guy "deciever" and he rips off his robes to be a huge demon. Seems to fit Belial pretty well.
Wow panel coming up now. Hopefully we can see some cool new Cataclysm news. It better be worth it XD.
