That reminds me of an old text-based game I used to play called Shimlar. When you first started a character, you weren't able to speak to anyone until you got to lvl 10 I think. You might have been able to talk to others that were under lvl 10, I can't remember.

I really hope they will implement something like this, or something like what akse said into the next D2 patch, as well as in D3.

In the WoW trial you can't message at all. You may be able to whisper. I don't remember. I thought it was a pretty good preventative measure although I had trouble communicating lol.

Everyone should make their games with a small level limit. Like if you are 50 put it to 30 or something so no one under 20 lvl can join your game etc.

Genius. I'd say this would cut down 90% of the spam.

posted a message on temp ban for NO reason....
If you're playing under the same connection than you both have the same IP address. Unless you're spoofing it or something. Which means if one of you got temp banned for say joining more than 20 games in an hour then yes the other would get temp banned as well 'cause Blizzard would ban the IP.

posted a message on How to Avoid the Rollback
Edit: Apparently rollback has been patched. If it hasn't though, or re-surfaces in another form, than read this for future reference.

You're being rolled back 'cause you're progress is not being saved when the server crashes. So lets look at how the game saves.

    1) The game saves every so many minutes.
    2) The game saves for everyone present in the game when someone leaves or joins said game.

So if you want to save your progress then when you complete a quest, find an item, or gain a level, have one person in the game leave and rejoin.

Hope this helps some of you.

Ahhh, Ok, I thought this might be the reason, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks man. Weird, it has never happened to me before now...

Never happened to me before either and I've played with quite a few French people. I guess a lot of them have English versions.

In any case I think we all know by now what it means when it pops up lol.

It's very likely that this was always present, but with the old duping method patched, now dupers have no choice but to initiate rollbacks.

Even if they don't dupe themselves, these forum gold assholes know full well where the items they trade come from, they all turn a blind eye until something like this happens. Then suddenly it's Blizzard's fault and they start screaming on the forums and in chat.

It's almost worth the crashes seeing them piss and moan.

I'll give you the low-down on what I know. It's called the Birthday Rollback. Yes this was present before but it was never released to the public before. Many different people discovered how to do it but always kept it to themselves or sold it for their own profit.

This was a deliberate "Fuck you" from someone who knew how to initiate the rollback and decided to release it to the public on the day of the ladder reset to just fuck Blizzard and the new ladder. The worst part is this method is extremely easy to do which means as more people get wind of it the more frequently the servers will crash.

Fucking killer. I think I'm going to just not play until this is fixed. It's getting worse by the hour.

Immediately upon the Ladder Reset for Season 6, someone posted a method in which to crash a Diablo II server to induce rollbacks. Sad to say, a server crash doesn't just affect the player initiating the crash, but everyone else on that server. There are also more heinous things one can do with said crashes.

With that said and with what the crashes fall under, I highly advise everyone against engaging in this act. Intentionally crashing a Diablo II server for whatever reason repeatedly can be viewed as a DoS attack and that in itself is punishable by law.
    Quote:
A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person or people to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely. Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers. The term is generally used with regards to computer networks, but is not limited to this field, for example, it is also used in reference to CPU resource management.

One common method of attack involves saturating the target (victim) machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.

Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the IAB's Internet proper use policy, and also violate the acceptable use policies of virtually all Internet Service Providers. They also commonly constitute violations of the laws of individual nations.
I posted a message similar to this on the Battle.net forums warning users against engaging in this act, and Blizzard deleted it 30 minutes later, so I can only assume they are planning some form of punishment.

Again, I highly advise everyone against engaging in this act.

All we can do is hope Blizzard provides a quick fix for this rather than waiting around for months like they did in Season 3 with the Meteor-Wall dupe method.
