I wonder if the people complaining about these numbers are the same people who claimed that they will have inferno beat 1-2 weeks after the game is released.
my gf occasionally plays COD, I tried to describe d3 to her but failed to convert her. I then showed her a video of the wizard using disintegrate and she was sold instantly.
Yes OP, some people would (sadly) prioritize a game above other much much more important things in real life, but i seriously doubt that it is more than a few among a few thousand. Alot of people are highly addicted to a computer and the things that come with it, but most can still make the right choice when it matters.
This. I remember back when I was playing CS competitively during my high school days (about 8-10 years ago now?). A very high percentage of people from the top-division quit the game when it came time for people to study to get good grades to get into university. So you ended up with a lot of people who quit playing when they hit 17 or there abouts, keep in mind that these were people in the top teams in the country/world who played the game very competitively and lived by the game. I remember noticing that the CS scene would churn through players on a yearly basis as a lot of top-pros would quit for exams/other commitments and never return to the game. So yes, we may be addicts but we can still make important decisions. Things may be a bit different these days because the idea of being a "pro gamer" has emerged and the possibilities for sponsorships as e-sports gains momentum and grows but I dont think any D3 players will consider themselves to be progamers.
As much as I have been looking forward to d3, real life is always the main priority. You are obviously going to pick option 3 but make sure that if you get sucked into d3 and play it a lot that it doesn't ruin your marriage
Im from Aus and my local EB Games told me that they dont get told until 2-3 days till release if they are having a midnight release. They had always done it for the wow xpacs so touch wood D3 gets the same treatment. But the strange thing is the store manager said its not up to her or head office its up to the company releasing the game and they only get about 2-3 days notice.
My E.B games in west Aus is in a massive shopping complex so there not allowed to do midnight releases
I pre-ordered my CE copy from an EB games in Sydney, Australia which is also in a huge complex. I asked if they were going to do a midnight release but they did not know at that time ( pre-ordered last year). That same store has done midnight releases for heaps of games in the past. They did a midnight release for MW3 and he said that their diablo 3 preorder numbers were expected to go even higher than the numbers that MW3 hit. He said that they organise it with the complex and they just leave one of the entrances to the center open with security present during that period. But I guess I wont be able to find out for sure until very close to the release date.
I think another thing to think about is that its one thing to beat inferno but its another thing to beat infero in style and with ease. For example in d2 back in the days when cow runs were all the rage, you could get a party of fairly average high level characters to clear a cow run but it may take some time to get through it all and things may get scary at times. On the other hand a nicely build nova sorc or javazon with sick gear would clear the run in like 1 minute.
I must say it was a very satisfying feeling being able to teleport in the middle of a screenload of cows and just blasting them all in a few seconds with some novas. I expect the same type of rewarding feeling to come from having a very well made character smash through a pack of inferno creeps.
So I think that clearing inferno is not the goal. Clearing it in style is the goal :).
Fairly bad timing for me. I am starting my at new job on the 1st of May where I will probably be doing a lot of hours for the first month while I become familiar with things.
Wow I cant believe what I am reading. How can Blizz possibly release a game or even talk about being in a polishing phase when one (of only 5) characters does not even have attack animations for weapons. That is such a huge thing to be missing from a game...
This just seems ridiculous. We have been waiting for the game for YEARS because we were lead to believe that they were taking their time to ensure that D3 is worthy of being the followup to one of the greatest games ever made. Now all of a sudden they are cutting features out of the game and trying to rush a product to market? This does not sound like blizzard anymore :/
I fee that the game has had to sacrifice a lot of what it could have had because the rune system is such a huge bitch to implement.
I am neutral because I was planning on doing all of my D3 online regardless. However i have to take a lot of business related flights throughout the year and D3 would have been a good way to get through some of the flights. I could have set up an offline character which I only play during flights. That would have been interesting to see how long/how many flights it would have taken me to beat the game in hell. Ah well, there is always south park to kill time on flights...
Everything that you did with a D2 character had a great sense of commitment to it. You had to completely commit to every stat and every skill. Which in turn is a semi-commitment to your equipment and playstyle. There was no going back. Some people just dont like making commitments or don't have the patience or knowledge to strongly consider everything with their build.
*Teleports around cow level and rounds up hundreds of cows*
*Teleports in the middle, cows fill up the entire screen*

-nova nova - *moooo mooooooooooo* - nova nova nova nova nova -
*collect goodies*
Come on, everyone admit that this was the most fun MFing experience in all of D2 back when cow runs were all the craze. You just felt like you had infinite power in your character. I hope that there will be an area of D3 where this experience can be redelivered with the wizard.

I am assuming that you have never played D2.

Do yourself a favour and get yourself a proper mechanical keyboard. Filco, SS, Zowie etc. You won't need to buy a new keyboard for 10 years
