posted a message on Twizzcast Legendary Discussion

Travis kept saying he wanted legendaries that add a Game Mechanic that makes people change the way the play.

So thought of these in 5mins just now after watching the twizzcast

    1) Using a Potion triggers a legendary proc effect. - Now we would use Potions while at full health..

    2) Playing while in Zoom mode - A legendary that gives you a huge benefit for gimping your visibility..

    3) Every time you identify/pickup an individual item you gain X% magic find for X seconds.. this effect can stack... - now I start picking up everything

4)Everytime you pickup gold you gainX% gold find for X seconds.. this effect can stack..

    5) Every time you drop an item you gain X% move speed for X seconds...this effect can stack..

    6) Every time you make your character talk using the numpad you reduce enemies damage by X% for X seconds This can only proc every X seconds. This becomes sort of like a barbarian shout but for all classes.

Will think of more ways that i could change my gameplay if I had certain legendarys..

posted a message on I've been cheating on my relationship with D3
I to have started playing POE while D3 RoS is still in development....

I do not like the combat in POE at all!... but I do like the more in depth systems it has outside of the combat.

They took two really good development systems (from my point of view) from the Final Fantasy Series.
    1) The Sphere Grid of FFX - a levelling system i liked as it had depth and complexity (in a way) to it. They used this idea in the passive skill system for POE.
HOW I WISH D3 USED A SIMILAR SYSTEM IN PARAGON 2.0!...

    2) The Materia System from FFVII. Materia/Gems level up as you fight and you can socket these together in linked items to create new skills/synergies/passive bonuses.

However after playing POE over the last 2-3 weeks... I just do not have the same excitement as I had when I first played the D3 during the first 3 weeks of release.. I actually have no burning desire to go home after work today and login to play POE... I have only played with friends and I could never play this game solo...

    I see it like this.

Diablo 3 = Great Engine/Base which has enabled good combat and has nailed the "A" part of the "ARPG" but what it suffers on is the "RPG" part of the equation. I want some more depth to D3 on the RPG side.. and even with some of the features in RoS it doesn't feel like it there is enough yet.

POE = Average Engine.. which has left me with stale combat, dumb AI and leaves me bored with how 'clunky' it feels vs D3. However POE seems to have the "RPG" side of the ARPG equation a little more locked down. There is some complexity there and some real decision making (even though you can reroll) with the Sphere Grid/Passive Skill system.

All in all I believe that it is easier to add more of the RPG side of things in things like expansions. POE will NEVER have good combat in my opinion as they would need a new Engine which would = a new game...

FYI-I am from New Zealand by the way so I should probably be biased with GGG.. I also have the best ping in an online game that I have ever played :P

Is the Exp gain from lvl70 enemies a LOT more than current exp gains?

If the same amount of experience to get to paragon 100 could be gained within say 5 hours of playing RoS... then I might not Plvl now and save my strength :P

    I am with option 2.

    - Pro soulbound legendaries, Anti legendaries dropping like crazy

But I will go one step further and say that I want some legendary drops to be rarer than others.

For instance currently if a legendary drops it will roll for what items type it is, lets say it rolls a two handed sword.
There are about 10 possibilities it can be and each have a 1/10 chance to be rolled.- all are equal

I would prefer if 1 of those 10 legendaries actually had a 1/100 chance to be rolled, and another 1/1000.

Those 2 legendaries might be BoA items but the other 8 are not as they are more common and can be traded

Some people live in a diablo bubble and do not compare their character to others as someone having a more powerful character outside that bubble doesn't concern them. These people are very very few as most want to 'win'..

What is winning in diablo 3? For me... well after I beat diablo on inferno the focus shifted to having the most powerful character. To measure how powerful you are is mainly done by comparing yours against others.

This is actually FUN by the way (maka).. building the most powerful character to slowly move up the DPS/MP10 ladder..
We set a goal for ourselves (like some set for themselves to be 'self found') to reach 100k dps, 300k dps, 600k dps etc

Now the way that the most powerful characters are made in diablo 3 are currently from the AH/RMAH/Trading.

I think all people want is that after we have beat the main campaign mode and our shift goes back to developing the most powerful characters in RoS, that the way to become powerful is from PLAYING THE GAME, NOT THE AH/RMAH and not TRADING (which is just an archaic AH/RMAH)

Also creating a limitation on the AH/RMAH/Trading stops people from 'Paying to Win' this D3 metagame

Honestly, and at the risk of sounding like a dick and alienating a lot of people here, you all need to take a good look at what makes you feel validated in life, and at what makes you feel a sense of accomplishment. That you are so dependent on what other people are doing, in a non-competitive game, in order to have fun, is totally out of my comprehension. And I'm being totally honest. It's something around which I can't really wrap my head, no matter how hard I try.
Seriously, know who and where you are, have fun with the journey (as long as the journey is fun - hopefully RoS delivers that), and forget about the races and the rankings.

I think my time in this thread has run its course, it's next to impossible for me to find some common ground. All I can say is that I hope they change their mind on this.

I think it boils down to personalities and that a lot of people are competitive no matter what the game.

Fuck I could play Solitaire and play it over and over but eventually the game may become stale .. so I might challenge my mate and say who can win solitaire the most times. GO.
I just made a non-competitive game competitive to make it more FUN (subjectively) after I had completed the main goal of the game.

You may not have a competitive bone in your body and that might be the reason you don't agree with the other side on this debate.

Diablo is not going to be P2W for the first time.
Which begs the question... what is "winning" in Diablo? :)

No disrespect meant. And I actually am beginning to like the direction they're taking, and never spent a single dime on the RMAH, so I kinda agree with you.

But I don't understand the P2W concept in a game like this. Does it surface when people compare their characters? Do we even have "some" competition, even without ladders? Because we can compare profiles and character power? And guys like Archon, Alkaizer and Jaetch are "winners", and everyone else is a "loser"?

I do think there is that there exists this invisible ladder system where people want to have the best/most powerful character in the game.
Some people live in a diablo bubble and do not compare their character to others as someone having a more powerful character outside that bubble doesn't concern them. These people are very very few as most want to 'win'..

A lot of people want a ladder for instance.
In that game mode it is all about getting to the top in the most efficient manner. However if getting to the top is going to be cheapened by trading then it will ruin the competetion. People who grind by themselves will lose out to the large clans/streamers etc who just give 1 guy all the best items.
They will be taking the lift when most will be taking the stairs. Creating a BoA model would make sure to reduce the edge (from trading networks/ community created AH) that some would have in that competitive format.

Trading for the best items, or friends giving me them, will not make me jump out of my seat...

So....basically, you don't have the willpower to refuse handouts. That's what it boils down to.

Ok don't take handouts into account. Lets say I trade an awesome Magefist for your Frostburns as I want to be a cold Wizard. We make the trade..yay I feel happy.

But I will argue that I would have been much much more excited if BoA was present so that I could only Find the best Items. Lets say I had been hunting for some Frostburns for ages then they dropped for me with a big golden beam on screen. I could see the item on the ground, read the text and know what it was before I pick it up and I will punch the air and be like 'fuck yes!'

That feeling might still happen without a BoA model but it is just going to be a god damn AH again where I will find something and just stop playing until I trade the item for what I actually wanted.

I don't want to have be in games saying 'wug' , 'wanna trade x for y', 'no that trade is unfair' and time ticks by, I sit there getting frustrated at this fucking archaic trading system when we had an AH and then my game time is up and go to bed thinking did I even play D3 tonight?

JUST MAKE THE TOP TOP GEAR BOA - ilvl 71,72,73 legendaries or something
HAVE ALL ITEMS UNDER ilvlx (70) BE TRADEABLE

That way we can still trade for gear to get the legendaries you want (ilvl70 ones) but they will not be as powerful as the BoA ones that drop. And if you get one of the BOA ones you will get that goood feeeling you don't get when trading

When I get a legendary drop that I know I can only find - (not buy or trade for) - I will finally be excited when I see it drop.

I want to have that jump out of my chair and go go 'fuck yes' this is awesome. not many people will have an item like this so I feel pretty lucky.

This feeling I do not think can occur without a BOA model for top teir items.

Trading for the best items, or friends giving me them, will not make me jump out of my seat...

I am getting excited. Thanks for the info Jaetch.

Definitely can't wait to build a Frozen Orb Wizard (my favourite D2 skill).
Ill be wearing items with +%cold damage (frostburns etc) and getting resource cost reduction instead of usual trifecta stats in Paragon 2.0. Unless Power Hungry is OP then maybe just use that! :)

    Im with you Itirnitii.

Even if they only have Legendaries that are the top ilvls (ilvl 71, 72,73?) be BOA but ilvl 70 and below are tradeable... that could be a small compromise

Although Diablo is not a PvP game, some want to have the best character they can possibly have and that sort of creates a weird competition..

Some may not give a shit... some do..

And for those that do they feel it is lame that players can just Pay to get the best items rather than Play..

I don't mind BOA if it provides the same solution for what the AH was for in part: stopping Bot spaming in games and 3rd party sites/unsafe trading enviroments

posted a message on Tired of hearing "loot 2.0"
There were no surprises at Blizzcon for D3..Nothing was a 'big reveal' for RoS... we knew everything apart from some adventure mode extra details. I am left a little sad.

Loot 2.0 has been talked about for months and I thought we would be a lot closer when Blizzcon came.. but instead it was barely touched on.

Type of Reveals i was hoping for:
    • 'PvP' or "PvPvE" actual announcement
    • New 'Devils Hand'/Gheeds Machine/Gambling' systems
    • New Class
    • New Cinematic.. Part 2 of the opening Cinematic.. introduce Inarius and Lilth or something
    • New Crafting features - has it received any love?
    • Loot 2.0 release date.. I have eaten that carrot and don't want to wait any longer.
Nothing was really 'revealed' and it makes me think that the Datamined information was a mistake by Blizzard.. not a 'we know it will get datamined' type of thing...
