posted a message on melee or ranged?
I feel the Barbs mitigation and the monks utility have a chance of balancing the scales in any event, the Doc will be my first class (I love him but will not be using pets) but the Monk will be my first HC character (wish me luck!) and I plan to abuse his mobility/utility as best I can.

posted a message on Is Diablo 3 going to be too "childish" ?
In general I like the "painterly" style-to quote Blizzard-and I think it makes a really beautiful game. some of the gore goes over the top and shocks me out of pure game enjoyment, (really, do yellow monsters need to cover my whole screen with a death star nova of blood?) and the colored lighting of some interior zones catch me off guard when I first see them, but all the outdoor environments are supurb. Now childish is a very strange term to apply here, charicature seems more fitting, but still largley inaccurate.

Edit: Cherub down, Cinimatics are cheating!! XD

    Quote from ProfessorDog

By "Heroes" they mean specific characters, not Classes.

I don't think this means you won't be able to pick some of the 5 classes in the Starter Edition. I think it's more like trying to log onto a high-level character using the starter edition. Still a little confusing since in WoW, you can lapse your subscription and then try to access an old character using starter edition, but Diablo 3 isn't subscription based...

Ah, that almost makes sense for the reasons you gave..
It's probably better that way too, maybe it stops you from playing a charcter that has reached the max level in the starter edition unlike in the Beta were you can play one character at 13 until the patch comes home?

So the real question is how viable a melee DH is, not how viable a melee Wiz/Doc is?

posted a message on F*ck Contemporary Art
I personally enjoy evocotave elements in art I enjoy, and feel that the junk is now known as Modern Art is a travesty. If intention is so fundamental to art I don't understand how that intention needs to be described to observers in a paragraph below it. Not having much knowledge in the arts I don't know who actually determines if a piece deals with 'social or political issues' (is it the artist or is it an orginization of experts?) but shouldn't that idea be recognizable in the piece and why are political cartoons not fine art?

I like the idea that to be art mastery is needed, but it seeems that the mastery currently needed is not in the art production, but marketing or presentation or pandering or casuistry. Hopefully in as we peogress people will put money in what can be appreciated and the trash will die as an unsustainable practice.

I like the rant and the art (the good stuff)! And good luck on your work.

posted a message on From D2 to WoW to D3... Environments
It's interesting how D3 uses obscuring elements in nearly every environment to darken it. I love how they use that as the vehicle of darkening the zones instead of simply removing light.

It still feels strange how the put color to the ambient light though. Definately not in a bad(read: over the top) way like the WoW zones do.

posted a message on Critique My Semi-Tanking Build
Doesn't look tanky at all to me, Looks more like a CC damage build. I made some major changes to the build here, but tried to keep the theme you had

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#cSYdkZ!YZc!YbcZZb

So Fire bats and locust swarm are you're primary damage dealers, but you don't need corpse bomb, because you already have Firebats to spam (you could put corps bomb in and take out one of the others, but the idea is you have a Dot to cast periodically and a primary damage dealer which you spam) so I replaced it with dogs which increse your durability and add damage (like a persistant DoT) I chose Leeching, but any will do. Siphon and Wall were fine great for defense and offense. I altered Grasp of the Dead into Death is Life because the extra helth will keep you up, and for mana and damage from gruesome feast. Finally Bad Medicine (with the locusts) and jungle fortitude are to boost your defense but either could be switch with Pierce the Veil depending on how tough you actually are.

    Just my thoughts though.

posted a message on Why is blizzard making D3 like WoW?
Hostility was why I played about 4 sessions on B.Net and then stopped, or only used paswworded games. I hated it but some people like to be cruel and for you there is this:

    Quote from Ruppgu

It is worth mentioning that the WD dolls will have mana regen on them. I don't think it will be worth giving up so much damage but if you don't have a direct damage build, a 1 hander + doll will be better.

Are we sure that the added damage that dolls give (it seems that all Dolls and Orbs give a bonus to damage) does not help equalize one handers with two handers? I was of the opinion that the bonus affixis you get from a Doll and its flat damage boost were usually at least equal to, if not greater than using a two handed weapon meaning that a 1-hander plus doll is not a sacrifice in damage at all, but rather grants an increase in versatility.

I was just perusing the diablo internets and wound up on this website and was reminded of one of my favorite DH skills that just dissapeared as far as I can tell. Molten Arrow looked awsome, but it no longer exists in any form that I can tell. I don't know why it is gone, it seemed like a very cool area control skill and could easily be a rune for elemental arrow, but it just isn't. what skills do you remember and where do you think they went? (other than 'Away b/c Blizz dindn't like them/couldn't find room for them')

Also, Do pets attack speed depend on your attack speed? they seem to work based on its damage and not be affected by atack speed meaning here another instance of high damage favored for the Doc...
