Nov 9, 2011Thander posted a message on Third Conference Call, Beta Notes You Didn't See, and Battle.net's "Cheat Box"I wonder how they will have people test the RMAH. Maybe just give everyone fake money in their account? It will be interesting to see if anyone is able to make a "profit" during this testing. It should have implications for the RMAH after release.Posted in: News

Oct 17, 2011Thander posted a message on DiabloCast: Episode XXXIt's a mixture of both but not an even mixture. In Diablo 2 for how I played, it was about 80% cooperative and 20% competitive. Competitive was only when I was bored of the cooperative monster killing. Like we finished killing a boss or got through a quest. People were bored and decided to do some duels. I usually lost, but I enjoyed the break from doing the same thing over and over. This is most likely what I will do in Diablo 3 too. Mostly play cooperative monster killing, and PvP only occasionally to take a break from the normal game. But what gets me addicted is getting new and better items, not beating everyone at PvP.Posted in: News

Oct 7, 2011Thander posted a message on DiabloCast: Episode XXIXI think it's too over the top. I'm not asking for real physics, but I don't think enemies should literally fly out of the screen as shown in that video by Force. Half or 1/3 normal gravity is okay, but 1/6 (moon) is too much.Posted in: News

Oct 7, 2011Thander posted a message on D2 Ladder Reset: Season 9I bet their decision is related to Diablo 3 release date. They wanted to make sure there is enough time for a new ladder before the new release. Assuming a March release, that leaves about 5 months for this ladder season. Starting a new ladder season will help people stay focused on Diablo a little more (many have gone back to D2) while they wait out the delay.Posted in: News

Sep 27, 2011Thander posted a message on Beta Patch 4Did they say the class changes would be added to the beta? I'm pretty sure they said beta wouldn't be changing from its current state other than bugfixes. Really the only thing they are testing is stability of the servers and how different hardware works with the game. They don't need to update the classes in the beta to achieve that goal. I am assuming we won't see the class updates until Blizzcon and the non-Blizzcon public won't be able to try them out until release day.Posted in: News

Clearly thats not the case if you already own a PS3.Quote from Xerlane
Having a mouse and keyboard connected to a PS3 seems kinda silly and ruins the "console" feel of the system. Also why don't you just buy a better computer if your old one can't handle it. I'm sure you can get a better computer for less money than that of a PS3
And the most likely reason they only have PS3 job listings on the site is because they're probably going to end up putting it on the PS3 and 360, but they, like most developers nowadays, are going to make it for the PS3 and bring it over to the 360. Apparently doing it the other way around is considerably more complicated.
I very much doubt D3 would end up being a PS3 exclusive considering Blizzard has never been a company that limits what platforms they release games on (just look at how long they've been putting games on Macs) and Activision rarely, if ever, releases PS3 exclusives.
Yeah, the 360 just uses a slightly modified Windows OS. They can pretty much directly compile their PC code into Xbox code using the devtools Microsoft gives them. PS3 on the other hand is different than any other system. The Cell processor has all different instructions than Intel processors, and developers have to spend a long time working with it to get good performance out of it. -
Jun 8, 2011Thander posted a message on Purgatory Video (6/6/11)PS3 makes sense. Sony has been open to letting developers use their own internet platform before. (Portal 2 with Steam.) Microsoft on the other hand requires all developers to use Xbox Live for online play plus players have to pay a yearly fee to play online. My guess is a Diablo 3 for PS3 that includes both single and multiplayer and for Xbox with single player only. (Blizzard will not let another company (Microsoft) control their online system.)Posted in: News

Jun 7, 2011Thander posted a message on SteelSeries Diablo GearToo expensive I think. I mean they are probably good quality, but the extra cost is really just for the D3 branding. You can get a good gaming mouse for $50 that works as good or better. You don't really need gaming quality equipment for D3 though. It's not an ultra competitive game like SC2 where you might need it to compete. (Even in SC2 you can do a lot without the best equipment.)Posted in: News

May 20, 2011Thander posted a message on BlizzCon Ticket PricesIt's nothing compared to travel costs. A good concert costs the same, but that's just one night of fun. Blizzcon gives you two nights and two days. The only reason I haven't gone is the travel costs. If I just had to pay $175 I would definitely try to get tickets, but the other $1000 or whatever for travel is just too high. Also when I want to take a vacation I like to get away from the city and just relax. I'd be so excited at Blizzcon I wouldn't get any sleep. I would come back home more tired than when I left.Posted in: News
Edit: Another thing...
On the other hand, the online pay per view thing is a complete rip off. Someone inevitably records everything and posts it on Youtube in high definition, all free to view. I could see maybe $10 for access, but with all the problems I don't see how someone would pay for that. Last Blizzcon the HD mode didn't even work for most people. People that paid money for HD had to watch low res because of the bugs. There were also lag issues, hiccups and timing issues.
They even hyped up this big SC2 showmatch between Boxer (former Brood War champion) and FruitDealer (then SC2 world champion), but it never got shown on the live stream due to some error. I only watched the free stuff, which was the opening ceremony, some of the WC3 tournament, WoW tournament, and the showmatch (which was never shown due to bugs).
All over the forums paid viewers were having the exact same issues as me. I was really glad I didn't spend any money on that and just watched everything on Youtube. That's another thing. You could only watch the videos on demand for that weekend. After that, they were removed so even people who paid couldn't watch if they were busy that weekend or something. Youtube on the other hand you can still view everything today with no problems. /end rant -

May 15, 2011Thander posted a message on The Follower BluesIf they aren't making them full-fledged mercenaries, I'd rather followers just be cosmetic. You get to choose which one to follow you. They do all the story stuff and chat with your character, but they don't really do any damage and have no customization. They should just be to keep your character company. Keep their health and survivability up throughout the game, but make their damage so low to be worthless.Posted in: News

As much as I want to see another dungeon, even just a different one that we've seen before, that screenshot does remind me that 3D environments are going to be awesome. That Iron Maiden looks pretty damn sweet as well, I wonder what kind of uses it'll have. Hopefully something like 'Hit a monster into it!'
That would be really fun. Hopefully it's at least destructible. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Sorry, I hate misspellings like that.
Anyways, I was impressed with the Azmodan one. I'm sure some of the entries were planned a few months ahead, but this guy only had a week to do planning as well as carving.

I think Korean government's rejection is probably what others have said, they consider it gambling. They could say the game is only for age 18+ or 21+, but kids can still get access easily at their cafes.

I still don't understand why Blizzard couldn't include an offline single player mode. I know they wanted single player people to have an easy transition to multiplayer, to be able to use their single player character in multiplayer, but I don't know if this will help much in getting more people to play multiplayer. I don't think the tradeoff is worth it. I think mods could eventually be developed where you install the game in a separate place and install some files that modify stuff. The problem with that is it cuts off the server from the situation. If Blizzard ever found out you were using a mod, they could ban your account and you lose all the years you put into your characters. I don't think I will ever use a mod with Diablo 3 because of this.
UI addons
I think the problem with UI addons was that it made the game easier to play. You had more information about your character and the world, so you could make better decisions than someone who didn't. This forced Blizzard to tune boss difficulty around people using all the tools available including advanced UI addons. Then some UI addons became "essential" to beat bosses, which Blizzard did not like. They have always said they wanted UI addons to be optional, but it didn't work because guilds forced people to use addons. I don't think Blizzard will do UI addons in their future MMOs.

I don't know. Maybe youtube has a rule that you can't use it directly to run a contest? Sure, a big company like Blizzard could probably get permission to, but the average channel even of a partner probably can't.
