Guess what. There is no end-all solution to hacking. There are some pretty functional safeguards to duping though, and the RMAH is going to be a very good strategy to do just that. Not because it will generate extra money for Blizzard to purchase a bunch of scrubs to sit in each others laps and type faster with four hands on a keyboard vs. two. Just because it is a strong system based on it's functionality and eliminating the demand for third party sites.
At least we can agree on this ^^
As for "throwing money at baddies" I'm not sure I know what you mean.
We have not seen RMAH in action yet so ofc there might be issues with it, but isn't it like that with everything that is new? Anyway I see the revenues blizzard is getting from RMAH as an incentive for them to keep it safe and effective. If there's cheating involved in some way Blizzard will have to put that on highest prio because of RM that is involved - most of it theirs ^^
You never get items for free - time is money =)
Quote from Jackzor
Bad luck for you. Not only did I rarely see bots, but when I reported them they were pretty quickly taken care of. Farming, and selling items for real money, is something that would happen either way. I fail to see how its at all game breaking now that Blizzard will hypothetically have much more control over the item trade.
Quote from Jackzor
Clearly you've never played WoW. Because the majority of what customer service does is answer and respond to complaints, most of which are about bots seeing as they made it extremely easy to report people. So their job is in large part banning bots/hackers.
As far as hacking, the only thing they'd ever be able to steal would be Blizzard currency that would only be able to be turned into cash if they hacked the relevant person's PayPal as well.

Stop making it sound like Blizzard employe people whose sole task is to ban bots and hackers.

Bits of code written to be run in conjunction with the game created by someone other than Blizzard.Just because Blizzard does not support addons for Diablo iii, doesn't mean none will exist. If it is untraceable, Diablo's version of Warden won't find it, and if there is website access, I doubt the Diii version of Warden will be running in the background at the time.Quote from Simpy7Addons = not existing in Diablo 3? Or maybe you mean a third party program?

This is going to involve making up some numbers and those numbers are key to this issue.
Hmm.
By deductive reasoning skills, I have derived the following equation:
Make up some Numbers (x) = Numbers (x) are the key to this issue
As we know, X cancels out, so were left with... Make up some issue? I mean, you can't say you're gonna make something up and then base your whole conclusion why something is detriminal on that made up fact.
What do you think is going to happen once people meet their limit for free postings a week? People will be going crazy playing this game when it comes out, and find according levels of loot. It is in their best interest to post these on the gold AH once their RMT limit is reached without having to pay for further postings. That way, they can turn around next week and sell all the gold they made from those items as well. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to sell 5 items for cash and have 10,000 gold to sell next week instead of just 5 items and nothing else? Everyone who posts more than the limit has to pay Blizzard upfront, and if that item doesn't sell...

Haven't read the above comments, maybe someone said it already.
If they introduce ever increasing tax on putting items to auction, that would prevent farming/botting. Say if there are 10 open bids, it would cost 11% of asked price to put 11th item, 12% for 12th etc, up to 100%. Or same, but on the daily basis, that would force acquiring multiple copies of the game, setting up multiple money accounts and would not generate any profit above some small amount. In other words, Blizzard could limit how much money an account could make per day.
What do you think?

I was forced to weather the storm of so many Blizzard fanboys with such stale arguements as "I run an anti-virus and don't go to porn sites and I've never been hacked" or "an authenticator makes it virtually impossible to get hacked", but the worst and most obviously erroneous of these arguments would have to be "the new Battle.net is gonna be so secure that the only people who get hacked don't have authenticators and are stupid."
If you go to the Diablo III forums right now you can read the ranting of numerous Diablo III players (many of whom own authenticators) that have had their accounts hacked/stolen and their items stripped from them. Blizzard has responded with a generic "buy our authenticators response" TO THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT THEIR AUTHENTICATORS.
I swear if I had the time and the energy I would try to track all of you fanboys down now for you "I told you so" come-up-ins. Alas, I'm a lazy old bastard trolling during Diablo maintenance who hopes as soon as it's over he can log in and find that he is lucky enough not to have had all of his gear removed by a scoundrel so devious and so ingenius to have wasted his time robbing me of the pixels on a video game for a mere pittance of what he/she could have actually made working a job.
P.S. how many of you think this occurence will make you hesitant to participate in using the RMAH? (not that your credit card info isn't already tied to your battle.net account from any previous online purchases such as Diablo III download or WoW game time.)

These pigs make me sick. Tell me you wouldn't sleep better tonight knowing that at least a couple of these pigs got punched in the face a few times.

"diablo has never been about modding"
"The community doesn't always make a game better"
"UI modification is almost pointless"
Statements like these are simply stupid. It's just stupid people condemning what they do not understand. If you don't like mods, don't use them. You can't call them pointless or detrimental as if it's not just your own twisted little opinion, but some universally known fact. Fact is, some people like mods.

FFIII (US)
FFX
FFVIII
Neverwinter Nights
Secret of Mana
Chronotrigger
FFXII
Legend of Dragoon
7th Saga
I've enjoyed every FF title except XIII honestly. I hate the new system. I actually played XI online for awhile and was quite immersed in it as well, but the best online world to spark my imagination and give me that "reading a great book" feeling was Neverwinter Nights. I never even played through the single player campaign completely, but some of the player generated servers were so amazing it made that game timeless. I can still go back and play on some of those servers today and feel overwhelmed with nostalgia.

All trolling aside, you've done an awesome job keeping the community informed and entertained. Thank the Gawd-bomb you are featured and not the fallout newbie at Gamespy.

I am somewhat of a hypocrite I suppose considering I have not masterminded a new strategy that will muster creativity and innovative participation in others, but the fact still stands that rich and powerful people in our country now see protests as a minor/financial hindrance and most often one they ignore almost entirely. Take the recent rule of no dancing at national monuments. It was outrageous that they arrested people (violently taking them into custody btw) for dancing ANYWHERE in America, and there was quite a large resistance movement planned where an enormous group of upset people gathered at danced at a monument in defiance of the absurd rule. None of that group were arrested that I know of, but the stupid rule still stands as far as I know.
The fact is, if rich and powerful people want to restrict your freedom for their own gain or ego, whatever the reason, it is all to easy for them to "talk to the right people" and get things done. The majority of people in our country don't have any recourse when suffering at the hands of a corporate dominated economy for instance. They can't just "pull a few strings" like some corporate asshat who decides that his profit margin is far more important than the well-being of our country. Anonymous seemed like they were on the road to leveling the playing field a bit. They don't only peacefully protest. They have the means to hit em where it hurts. Their pocketbooks. I guess I just hoped for a more direct approach from Anonymous considering they have had such a direct approach in the past.

I have done more than my far share of bitching in the streets, and I certainly don't regret it. I can remember organizing with a group called "food not bombs" where we actually fed the homeless. Untill, local governments realized that we were spreading anti-national dissent. Apparently, if you aren't spreading the gospel of zombie jesus and how his flesh will help you live forever and grant you with the ability to communicate your submission to his will and power telepathically...... you shouldn't have the right to feed the homeless. Maybe, it's just that all my "organizing" days left a bad taste in my mouth, and I would actually like to "fucking do something."

While we are on the copy and paste WoW systems mood, what about an end-game currency (sellable on RMAH ofc, before you anti-RMAH nutters get in on this) that can be earned for some random end such as high tier gear, large or specific & special upgrades to artisans, reapplication of runes, or a title or some achievement style crap?
