posted a message on Diablo II's evolution happened in the open, why are we stalling on Diablo III?
Quote from snared04drummer

Take a look at Diablo 1.0 today, and then patch it to current. Yeah, the graphics are the same, etc. but it is a VERY different game. That all happened out in the open, in the public where people could see, use, test, etc. everything.
Alright, if you are referring to the evolution from D2 1.0 to its current build 1.13, then you're argument makes no sense. D3 is still in testing, so why are you comparing the development cycles of a finished product and a pre-release game?

If you want to draw comparisons then you will need to look at D2 pre-1.0, because D3 isn't at the release 1.0 build yet. If I remember correctly, D2 beta only had act 1 and skills up until level 12, and regular patches. So, the game was in quite a bit of flux. I will say though is they didn't quite changes as much of the game while D2 was in testing. But then you need to take into account that a lot changes in a decade when it comes to gaming.

Quote from Mayne

You think the game's gonna be "perfectly fine" forever and there is no need for patching? And why is the game suddenly a sloppy mess compared to the last build?
What sloppy mess are you talking about?

posted a message on Seriously What is This? Can it be changed?
I like the item being crossed out. In a sense it better displays its meaning than an item background being in red. The red background makes it look as if the item is broken, while the cross shows it's unusable, while still displaying that it's magical or rare.

posted a message on It's all about confidence isn't it?
Quote from Totsakanth

Blizzard appears to have lost the confidence of a significant proportion of the most dedicated fans the franchise has. This is obvious from the tone of the posts in several threads.
Actually, this has actually been going on for ever:
WWI June 2008 - 'Why is there colour in my Diablo 3? I didn't sign up for my little pony in rainbow land!’
BlizzCon 2009 - 'Why is Blizzard adding an oriental class into the Diablo universe? They’re destroying the franchise.'
BlizzCon 2010 - 'Why did Blizzard call it a Demon Hunter? They all hunt demons!!! Stupid Blizzard.'
1st of August 2011 - 'RMAH killed the game, Blizzard just loves to steal my money... Why did they take away skill points, this isn't Diablo anymore... Online only!? Die Blizzard, die!'
Nov/Dec 2011 - 'This isn't a beta, it's a terrible excuse for a demo!'
December 2011 - 'Q1? Q1! How dare you give me nothing to do over Christmas. Blizzard, I will end you if you don't release Diablo 3, today!'

The point is people have been attacking this game with such gusto, since it's been announced. And that will never change; people get the strangest sense of happiness when they are constantly in a state of whining unhappiness.

posted a message on Why do white items have to be so sh*tty?
Diablo 2 actually had those grey, damaged items. They were the junk items of D2, but they were beyond useless, they were an eyesore and just plain crap. White items are baseline items, and can be worn at very low levels, plus you can socket them if you are very desperate to make a basic 'magic' item with properties of your choosing.
At the very least they are better than those terrible grey items.

Quote from greatmars

with the RMAH i believe hard almost impossible achievments will be the main source of bragging rights so i support that :P
I think it would be interesting if they put in some achievements that wont unlock if you use any RMAH items. Let's say an achievement for killing Diablo on Inferno, for instance.

Quote from trocadero_fuerte

Basically, When It's Done is a good philosophy, compared to the buggy, unfinished messes we usually see in this industry. But at some point, you're firing your third guitarist, rewriting the core engine, and adding features that were never inteded to fit into the scope of the original project. The noodling on the rune system (to me at least) appears to be at that point. Make them drops, save ranks 6 and 7 as hard to get craft recipes, and stop. There isn't anything you can add to them right this second that is worth the extra delay. If there is something awesome you can add to them (random affixes, ranged stats, unattuned gambling), add it in a patch or the expansion.
The rune system isn't the only thing they are working on. If you saw Force's interview with Jay Wilson, you'd know he stated that there are different teams working on different parts of the game. The guys working on runes are only a few, and now that the game is being delayed, they have more time to polish the system. Because that's their job, developing the rune system. The rest of the team are still working on everything else.
The items aren't even finalized yet, if you recall the lackluster uniques and sets they had at a stage, and the lack thereof on the D3 site at the moment. Plus, we don't even know the state of the later acts. When the beta was released, some textures were missing, some stuff didn't work properly, and the AH was released in the meanwhile. There has also been larger changes due to feedback, like followers and the Demon Hunter.
We don't really know what's going on behind the scenes, and why would you want to know what went wrong for whatever reasons?

Quote from napobm43

Here's the issue - why isn't it done yet??? The game was announced (not started development which happened much earlier, but announced) in 2008. The overwhelming majority of the few people lucky enough to have access to the closed beta see a very polished game. People heard from Blizzard that the game was going to be released by Nov/Dec 2011.
People heard from Blizzard that the beta will be short if everything goes smooth. The projected date was end 2011, IF they had no problems. Blizzard said that their beta periods may last up to six months, and D3 is no different. They never promised Nov/Dec 2011.
The current incarnation of Diablo 3 only started in 2005 when Blizzard North was disbanded. They announced it in 2008 and the game will come out this year, 2012. Development cycle: 7 years.
Blizzard started development on Starcrat 2 Wings of Liberty in 2003, after Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne. The game was announced in 2007 and released 2010 after more than five and a half months of beta. Development cycle: 7 years.
Diablo 3 is quite in line with Blizzard development cycles.

You know, I don't think it will really matter what Jay Wilson has to report, people will still berate him for whatever reasons they can contrive. If he says they have made large sweeping changes, they'd be angry. If he explains in minute detail all of the fine tuning that they're doing, they'd be angry. If he decided to tell us nothing at all, they'd be angry. Some people just enjoys being angry at life, and gleen some form of pleasure out of hating things for no better reason that just to nitpick and hate.

I don't understand why some people would be thick enough to make comments like: 'Blizzard is intentionally holding back the finished game to spite me personally.' Why exactly would a company intentionally delay a finished product that would make them millions? Yes, it sounds that stupid when you actually think about it.

Also - while Blizzard does not owe the community anything and doesn't have to communicate with the fans in any way as Molster and Azjenco state above - I would definately say that they absolutely do not communicate effectively. Blizzard CHOOSES to communicate with it's fans - which is a great - but it seems like every time they do communicate they only upset people.
I'm starting to think they'd be better off ignoring their so-called fans entirely. What's it worth to them anyway, spending time to cater to an ungrateful community. Blizzard should perhaps just turn a blind eye and plow onward.
From all the forums I've gone through, Blizzard have some of the strangest fans ever. They act like spoiled children.

Which is all just so strange. I must say, over at the Guild Wars community it's like light and day compared to over here (not to mention the WoW community, it's like eternal darkness over there). You seldomly find the fans complaining, they mostly look for ways to support the game. And when they do complain, it's mostly in a constructive way. A few times a random person will appear with the intent to disrupt everyone, but they don't last long.
ArenaNet is also not as forthcoming with their information. They mostly stick to giving information when they feel right, releasing stuff when it's finalized. In some regards they are even slower and more clandestine than Blizzard.

You know, some companies actually tell people nothing about their designing process. Blizzard could've remained perfectly quiet after they announced that they're working on Diablo 3. But they didn't. They could merely have revealed new classes at Blizzcon and left it at that. They could have kept a closed beta, and spoke nothing of it, but they didn't. They don't have to tell any of us anything. The fact that a new Diablo is coming out is hype enough all on its own, and they could've just gone all out a month before release. Yet they actually tell us stuff.

I honestly couldn't care less about WoW, I played it, and even then I didn't clamor to be pampered. Besides, this is Diablo with a different team. Sure it's the same company, but even the SC guys operate differently.

I'm just glad A new Diablo is coming out. I really don't care what they tell us. Does it even matter, it's not like this is the only game and I'm sitting in complete boredom without it. It will come and the only thing I fear is that it's release will clash with other titles. I know some people don't agree with me, they feel that they are paying customers and deserve to have their every whim pampered to. I feel I'm not paying them anything yet, so I deserve nothing from them. When D3 comes out according to when Blizzard feels right, then I'll buy it and be a paying customer, and see if the game was worth the money.

Quote from Britward

More sense of entitlement and self righteousness from people who think they are owed something more than what Blizzard's delivering? Other than the fact that this is NOT EVEN REMOTELY DIFFERENT from any other Blizzard release in terms of information, they owe us nothing. Now, once the game is released, if it's buggy as all heck and has technical problems, that's a different story. But they are developing a game. So, it really doesn't make sense to be making any demands. Even with those of us who did the WoW year thing, there isn't much room for demands.

I know, right? People come to these forums everyday, making demands from Blizzard for the game to be released, ASAP. They act like they are shareholders with a say in the company. Best things is, if Blizzard rushes the game, buggy as hell, these people would jump on these forums and berate them for releasing a half-assed product.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

But what I love most is the people who come here, day in and day out, proclaiming how they lost interest in the game, how it's grown beneath them, and how much they loath Blizzard. They are the same people who will be at the stores first come release day to pick up their pre-ordered Collector's Edition.
They kinda remind me of babies who bawl their eyes out if they don't get a toy, right now. They make a huge racket without end, and when they're finally given the toy, the crying ends immediately. Replaced by smiles and sunshine as if nothing ever happened. Sad, but true, and it always makes me smile.
