I thought they were only going to buff legendaries in the next one, not current ones?
Blizzard has repeatedly said only newly-dropped legendaries are getting buffed, old ones will be unchanged. I think that's what you were trying to say :)

The IK set, today, is still very good, but I agree that the prices people are charging (which is not necessarily what people are actually paying--lots of stuff on the AH never sells) is out of line for legendaries of any kind.

I have made a spreadsheet, counting in all the factors of upgrading gems. I input the new gem prices into it once a day or so, and so far, it has pretty much never been profitable to upgrade gems yourself.
This is usually true up through Flawless Square, because these drop. Higher than this is where things get interesting.

In a broader sense, I don't consider upgrading gems past Flawless Square to be worthwhile: the costs are very high, and the gains are minimal. I don't think costs need to go down, I think the benefits need to go up, scaling with the gold investment.

Yes, yellow numbers mean you got a critical hit. Many (most?) skills are capable of producing critical hits occasionally. You can see your chance of critical hits and the additional damage by clicking the "details" button inside your inventory. Items can increase both of these numbers, though many players opt to go for more "relaible" sources of extra damage...

If you're dying, you're doing it wrong. These are problems you shouldn't be having. Try visiting the auction house for better equipment, and making sure you have the right balance of skills for both harming the enemy and keeping yourself alive.

Um... are you trying to defeat elites kamikaze-style? Try dying less...

posted a message on Laptop shuts down
It appears that your laptop doesn't have enough cooling capability and is shutting down to protect itself.

To avoid interruptions, you have to reduce the heat output of your system:
    • Make sure your laptop's vents and fans are unobstructed and clean.
    • Limit CPU performance by using the advanced Power Options to cap your "maximum CPU speed" to 50% or so. This will slightly increase load times but shouldn't affect game play.
    • Enable VSync in-game. This will prevent your system from rendering more frames than your screen can present.
    • If the above is not enough, use the FPS limiter to cap your frame rate to 30 or so.
    • In combination with the above, you can lower your resolution to reduce GPU load.

That GPU is too slow to play the game well, and the CPU is borderline, also. You'll need a much newer computer, ideally one with a good GPU, to have fluid gameplay.

posted a message on FPS instability, Computer Shutdowns and More
Your computer shutting down is not a problem with Diablo 3. There are several possible causes; bad drivers, insufficient cooling, or electronic failure are all potential sources of this issue. The slow performance suggests a cooling problem; it's slowing down to prevent burning up.

Very new laptop designs (using at least an Intel HD 4000) should be able to play the game at low levels of detail. High details on a new laptop will be outside your price range.

posted a message on Mac slow FPS
The graphics processor in that model of Mac is barely enough to run the game. You'll have to lower all details and drop the resolution to have a chance. You may see an improvement if you use Windows via Boot Camp, but you can't expect miracles.

The reality is that most pre-2011 non-gaming laptops are unable to provide a good Diablo 3 experience.

posted a message on Why 150 foreground FPS ?
Most monitors are 60hz, so you won't see any additional frames beyond 60 FPS even if your computer can render them. I really don't know why Blizzard set the FPS limiter so high. Even the fastest monitors on the market only support 120hz.

With vsync disabled, you can see "torn" frames as it starts drawing the next one before it finished the first. But this is very wasteful; your computer will run hotter, use more power, and the fans may spin faster.

If you use Vsync (or, with NVIDIA's 3xx drivers, Adaptive Vsync), you'll never get higher than your refresh rate anyway so you may as well disable the FPS limiter entirely.
