Will the mobs or bosses have diminishing returns/immunity on stun/slow/fear abilities? Or stunlocking them in inferno with 4 barbarians its totally possible?
JayWilson: Elite mobs (bosses, champions, rares) are affected to a lesser degree by control skills, and are immune to a select few. We do not have a system for diminishing returns, as we want CC to be useful even against bosses.

Props to you D 3 devs for not making this game shit by following the wow raid design where virtually everything is about meeting DPS points rather than control and utility.

Ask yourself how many useless abilities and runes there would be if CC became relatively worthless in Inferno. It really just makes sense, and hopefully tweaked by giving monsters certain counters (like reflecting the cc, or mirroring it, etc.) or simply adding X% resistance (meaning chance to miss the cc, which I think jay is referring to).

TONS of ways to tweak the cc system to where cc remains a viable strategy, but requires skill and coordination to make it effective. Hopefully they do a good job.

One thing I've learned over years of gaming is not to let your schedule dictate who you play with. There's absolutely no reason not to develop a large network of friends and play with whoever is available at the times you're able to play. It's definitely better than being forced into pugging with retards every time you log on, especially if those retards can cost you your character. Pugging will probably be a death sentence in high level hardcore play, making a large network of hardcore players invaluable to success.

posted a message on Items seem lacklustre and uninteresting?
Honestly out of all things to be worried about, itemization is the least of my concerns... this is a beta test which is not representative of their vision.... they kept everything out of the beta for good reason, and I'm sure they've spent a lot of time looking at itemization and how it should progress. Way too early to criticize this, wait for release...

The sole reason for having a Beta is to garner input from testers and make changes to the game. What you're saying is diametrically opposed to the very purpose of a beta. Waiting for release to voice opinions and concerns is just an ignorant way to approach game design, especially when it's related to something so vital as an itemization system.

The fact is these items are probably the least interesting aspect of Diablo 3 that I've seen. Maybe we've grown too accustomed to Blizzard "breaking the mold," and that's a valid point, but we still can't help being somewhat bore-struck at basically a step BACK in itemization from Diablo 2 (D2 itemization was more thought-filled than these current listings). It just looks like laziness to me. I was expecting itemization in Diablo 3 to be just as exciting as the incredible skill system, crafting, and auction house, but it's just the same or less than past games have offered.

    Not impressed.

This is exactly why competitive pvp and game modes should be develoed and supported ( I.e. Content racing, "hoard mode," etc.). Eventually the story line will end. There needs to be some form of cometition to encourage loot farming for more than it's own sake, and of course the given that these options would be insanely fun!

posted a message on New items, rares and uniques... questions
If legendaries are the absolute best items in the game, and they have set item stats, that leaves no room for randomness in the game. Everyone will simply be hunting for these lengendary items with fixed stats and have no more room for item hunting. With rares being the POSSIBLE (key here) best items in the game, it leaves a lot more room for excitement and item hunting when looking at the game from an end-game perspective. It gives the game almost infinite replay value, because you almost certainly won't ever be able to find the absolute perfect rares for your character.

If anyone remember D2 Classic, this is what made the item game so damn fun.

Developers don't have infinite time and PvP is a whole 'nother system that needs to be tweaked and balanced on an entirely different principle than PvE. Would you prefer Blizzard delay the release of the game for another year or two? I certainly wouldn't.

It's already been stated that they have a system design in place for the separation of PvP and PvE abilities.

It's also been stated that there is a match making system in place, albeit invisible due to some misguided prejudice against competitive PvP.

Honestly, what else does the "PvP strike team" have to do? You're basically just pulling dates out of your ass. Furthermore, everything doesn't have to be perfectly balanced at release. Actually, it never is with any game. There should be continuous development after release, or at the very release some promise of support rather than a fanatical "over my dead body" (direct quote about allowing PvP to dictate design decisions in D3 from Jay Wilson) view against competitive PvP. What we have now simply isn't going to cut it for anyone who enjoys competitive PvP.

posted a message on Jay Wilson - E-Sports and PvP
There is so much misinformation garbage floating around the community right now. I'd like to clear the waters and make some very important points about the direction of PvP in Diablo 3

If you haven't already, watch this interview:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E452S_fJwA&feature=player_embedded

Jay Wilson makes a couple of key points in this interview:

    1) E-sports will not be encouraged by the Diablo 3 design team (in fact he made it sound like he would actively thwart any attempts)

    2) The system for relegating ability effects for PvP and PvE only is already in place, yet at one point in the interview he says "over his dead body" would he let the PvP game alter design decisions. Funny thing is it wouldn't have to affect PvE whatsoever with a system in place that separates the two completely.

    3) A ladder system has already been designed (although they're going out of their way to keep it invisible and un-competitive)

I think a couple of things need to be cleared up.

    1) The term "casual" in the context of this interview is apparently synonymous with "non-competitive." It appears to me that Jay Wilson sees no middle ground between Diablo 3 as an E-Sport and having absolutely no ranking system with mindless zerg PvP. Is it just me or does this seem like 2 extremes? Why can't we just have a respectable PvP system without "turning the game into an e-sport?" Why the hell is this guy so adamant about not allowing a competitive scene to take hold in Diablo 3?

    2) Again, with a system already in place for relegating PvP and PvE abilities, why is this guy such a crusader against a respectable competitive PvP system? It doesn't have to affect PvE in any way. It could only benefit the game and bring in a broader player base when done correctly.

    3) Apparently there is already a match-making system implemented. Why go out of your way to keep it hidden?

Would it really be that difficult to appease the players who desire some competitive PvP flavor alongside their PvE in Diablo 3? Would the game REALLY suffer?

I personally think this guy's prejudice against competitive PvP is insanely ridiculous and unfounded, and that there is absolutely no reason that Diablo 3 can not maintain it's strong PvE basis with some fabulous PvP flavoring included.

I'm just hoping it's not to late for the devs to realize their mistake and allow competitive PvPers the opportunity to enjoy Diablo 3 like everyone else.
