so we think we found the issue of why this is effecting dfans over other sites that have it handled after the first big attack. cherubdown was able to make a small change to the spam filter that was not set vs other sites.

Will wait and see how this impacts the results. But should help

for heavens sake's don't deploy one of those terrible capcha systems. some aren't too bad, but others are impossible for even me to get by! heck, maybe even a compromise between what ruksak and the mods are discussing: require users to pass a capcha system for either posting or starting new threads for the first week. That way it doesn't alienate new users that would like to create a new thread and it doesn't annoy long-time users (for long).

Yes, I realize, as thornagol said, you're a bit at the mercy of your platform. But nobody makes progress without some suggestions.
We will never do a normal captcha system. They do not stop bots any more than a good spam system will, no fears there :)

    Hey Ruksak

So Cobalt does allow for role restrictions based on post, and date. However, we try to never use these when at all possible. These have proven to reduce community growth while active. A lot of users sign up to make their first thread asking something. When they cant do this, they get turned off for the most part.

With that said, as bagstone has already stated, our spam filter learns as things are reported, unfortunately, this is the first big korean spam that has hit our sites. This was also not a normal spam bot issue, but a direct attack (as it hit other sites). However the issue has been handled now, and the spam filter should be picking up most of them from here on out.

We also have a another system that is being worked on in our local dev environment that should really help the with the reduction of spam accounts being created, though this wont be deployed out till the new year.

the tl;dr Limiting accounts really does not help, Bots will just post comments instead of threads, and it really does put off new users more than it helps. The better solution is to keep improving the current spam system (which works great on a normal day) to handle big attacks better.

Hey guys! I've been keeping an eye on this suggestion from various parts of the site. This is something we would like to get added in one way or another.

Datamining is no issue. Diablohub has all the items datamined, PLUS a community behind it to explain certain additional factors that can't be datamined like internal cooldowns or proc mechanics. Diablo3ladder has a view of the "current best items" which seems to be closest to what Diacollector is going for, but unlike Diacollector's small DB (2000 items) it has already more than 6 million. D3MaxStats has everything you need to know about affixes as well.

Not saying Diacollector isn't nice - but for a community-driven project you need to gain critical mass to become large enough such that the data reaches a tipping point at which it's fairly accurate due to the large sample size. And to get there, you need a unique selling point such that people feel a reason to engage in this community-driven project rather than a different one, like Diablohub or Diablo3ladder. Right now I fail to see what Diacollector's USP is, but I've bookmarked it and will check it from time to time in the future. For now, there are better sources for item stats and affixes out there.

They also do not do PTR data. The file format has changed, all data from live no longer helps :(  once PTR data is live and we have the live DB to go off of, we can get it working ourselves with no issue.

Hey, I found 2 slightly annoying bugs in the front page widget (don't know if thats happening elsewhere):

When I hover (accidentally) one element of the widget that displays a popup, it begins to load the content. When loading has finished, the popup is displayed under my cursor, even if I'm not hovering the element anymore. That means I often get a completely irrelevant popup stuck somewhere on the page, sometimes in front of the text I was just about to read. See here: http://imgur.com/MUduM1I

Probably for the same reasons, the displayed popups are sometimes the wrong ones. In this image http://imgur.com/wPyOgDW I was hovering a skill, however the preview of the build was shown. When you move from one skill to another, a series of popups starts showing and vanishing.

I think you can solve both problems by checking if the cursor is still over the correct element just before showing the popup after it has loaded.

Not able to reproduce this. What browsers, and addons do you have enabled?

This is something we 100% want to do, but we can not right now. We currently do not datamine items. The tooltips for items are currently grabbed from the live DB. Thus we have no way for you to select affixes. That is why we made a build type. you can select the import affix types you want the person to build on gear.

Once we get items datamined, it will be something we want to add!

It is very nice to know that it is something you want to add in the future. You will face some datamining obstacles, if you happen to need help the author of the following database might be able to help you =http://diacollector.com/, he is a nice guy.

unfortunately, unless im missing something, they are all missing all the affixes per item. Also PTR has changed the format of the files.

Is there a way to detect things like this and prevent them - the "smoking 1-line ascii art" (like the ones seen here). It's not a big deal now, but could become an issue in the future if people use that to draw attention to their builds.

It's also probably wise to have some sort of "anti-spam" to it (or an anti-empty build detector), because of things like these -http://www.diablofans.com/builds/417-lol /http://www.diablofans.com/builds/416-lol

Thats already going to be fixed on Monady!

Thats why the top build widget uses a rolling week :)

I think that's not enough. Look at the builds page; the top 6 builds have twice as many ratings and more than twice as many views than any other builds. I suggest the following:
    1) Feature 3 of the top 10 builds of last week
    2) Feature 3 completely random builds created in the last 24 hours
Update those not just every week but on every page refresh, so that using "F5" on the front page I can get a new set of 6 builds.
It should be like on Youtube, for example. Right now, the featured builds are only worth checking once a week.

It works!  Remember this is only the first week, and there is no [deck] tag for people to talk about it in the forums. This system already is tested on works on out other sites! The rolling week will be fine

Hi i came here to give some feedback and ask for some features.

Great project this is! I was creating my build and when i reached the Item-selection section i realized something very important. To achieve the highest potential of some builds, usually the best ones, it is required not only a specific item, but also a specific affix or even multiple specific affixes in the same item. To fix this my suggestion is to introduce a "Affix build" section right below the "Item build" section.

Last but not less important, I feel that the same variety offered (allowing the creator to advise up to 3 options per slot) in the Item build section should be offered as well in the Skill build and Stats build sections. This way the creator could offer some Skill,Item and Affix variations without having to create multiple build-entrancesin the website to basically show what isessentiallythesame thingwith gentle modifications/variations.

If there is I couldn't find it, but a good idea is to implement an option/button to copy as much data as possible from battle.net profile section, Say i type the Battletag select the hero and then it autofills everything.

Please add these, it will be of very much help to the build's creator.

This is something we 100% want to do, but we can not right now. We currently do not datamine items. The tooltips for items are currently grabbed from the live DB. Thus we have no way for you to select affixes. That is why we made a build type. you can select the import affix types you want the person to build on gear.

In build search the 'Has Spell' filter/search auto-complete doesn't work as it should. It loads skills after 1st key, but then it just keeps this data. 2nd request isn't even sent. In dev-console there is this error:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'toString' of undefined (core.js:452)

    I've only tested this in chrome38.0.2114.2 dev-m (64-bit) and Firefox32.0b.

PS: After some more fooling around: this only happens if the 1st letter returns some results (try searching for Leap). If you start with something like X it works as it should.

Thanks for the report, this should be fixed in a patch we will push out on monday, thanks!

Maybe I'm missing something on obvious but I can't get my gear choices to save to my builds. The skills are saving but the gear gets reset to blank. I'm using a phone to do input the details not sure if that's relevant.

Interesting. The builder def was not designed for mobile, Ill see if we can get support for it saving. Ill add this to known issues

Needs a filter option to get rid of the builds that require a specific item to be viable so those of us unlucky or just starting out can find good builds.

That is already in, go to the builds page, and simply add the items you dont have to the filter, and then click filter

    Quote from Natalya85 »
Seems like a pretty useless feature (in its current form at least). Just looking at the list and you can see that only the "1st page" builds actually get any rating/views the rest are completely ignored.

Basically whoever was up last night to post whatever build = only one that's being seen.

Thats why the top build widget uses a rolling week :)

Can you make it so that we can see the set bonus's when hovering over set items?
    Love it otherwise, great idea

yeah that is something we want to do. Sadly we do not datamine items currently (only abilities). But it will be something we get to!
