posted a message on Graphics: Official Petition
A game does not have to be superficially DARK, low brightness, or other things just to be in a dark atmosphere. Hell, Diablo 1 was hardly dark at all (even though it's in a DUNGEON, most of it was very bright), and even more so diablo 2, which did have very dark points, but also many pretty light, and very light areas.

Color does not make the atmosphere of the game, people are just dwelling on the graphics because it's one of the only things they can deal with right now.

One thing that would be nice though, is removing colored light, such as hues of blue or green lighting most of a dungeon (keeping stones and such gray), except special areas with specific magical light sources around.

Our point is, if they're not careful, Diablo 3 will become the "Alien Resurrection" of the game industry.
Not only is that really doubtful overall, but even if the graphics are bad or mismatching, it doesn't make the game bad... how could one co-relate such things?

Lately I've been thinking that this whole debate is an old garde vs. new gamers discussion. The old garde wants Diablo 3 to remain true to it's universe, while the new gamers, who've been spoonfed Warcraft, want the gimmick comic book stylization. I wonder if I'm right with that theory.
I think that's also incorrect. Many people who played diablo 1 and or 2 do understand or desire that it's going to be the same style game (some may not, but that's probably a pretty small group), but most know there will be some substantial changes, and for instance changing to 3d is an easy way for different graphics to look bad to some people. There is very little that looks cartoony in the game at all, or not in a dark atmosphere. Cartoony things, such as the pauldrons (the only thing I can think of, and it's just an item), can still likely be modified and fixed too, since it's only pre-alphas and I'm su re is missing lots of tuning on models and texture content.

posted a message on Progress Percent??
Stupid question, since not only does it not matter, but development is hard to gauge, and there is progess in different ways: bugs, content, gameplay, balance, textures/sound, etc.
Not only that, but most importantly, games aren't worked on with equal work amounts throughout production... once a game is announced for instance, more work may be put into it.
In Diablo's case, blizzard north was working on it, and since they went away, there was a delay in picking the development up.

It's lots like GoW or Dark Alliance... at least compared to some of the other stupid things people are saying.

I even looks like Mythos a bit too.

Regenerative health shrines littered around would be good, as well as skills that let you heal in combat isntead of potions (and not being able to rely all the time on health globes)

posted a message on High Res Gifs I used for my sigs.
Neither of those are hardly worth animating for signatures... especially tyrael...
Your signatures are a waste of 1.6MB bandwith. Just think, anyone visiting any topic that you posted in will have to load an extra 1.6MB just to see tyrael which moves by 1mm (plus the other image).

For websites and other common uses, keep them in flash format, which they take up much less space. The full size tyrael being only 2MB,while being much smoother. Granted that's still big.

posted a message on Respecs: Yes or No
Just because it's the only blizzard RPG made in the last 8 years doesn't mean it's the only RPG, or the only game which allows re-speccing. Point-based systems which don't allow respecs are mostly a thing of the past nowadays. People just didn't think of it back then.
If diablo 3 is not goign to be point based, then fine, don't have respecs, but that's not going to happen I wouldn't think.

No no no and no. I like the fact you can jack up a character and have to restart it adds a lot to the replay of the game. Go ahead wow fans flame on.
This has nothing to do with WoW.

Replay to the game? what about 5 different classes? different maps and quests?
Playing the same class over again slightly different is just not fun, it's a grind, and it does not add to replayability. It's like saying you can play diablo with your left hand only, then play diablo 2 with your right hand only, and it makes it such good replayability!
Respec allows you to go oh I fucked up let me fix that. CLICK ok all good now.
What the hell is wrong with that?

Anyone who's against re-speccing: Realize that it will still take a long time to get proper equipment for their changed builds before it will become effective. Respeccing simply lets a person try out what strategies they like, and how certain builds work... because theory can teach only so much, and especially when a game is freshly released, there is very little info, and people need to experiment.

Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance, that's right. Come to think of it I thnk the same. To think that it looks like such an older game like that makes it feel like kinda lower quality graphics, but I guess it's no big deal. They may even still improve.

God of war. I didn't really see any Guild Wars.
I would say titanquest, but it's very different, really.
I am satisfied with the graphics they are using, looks nice.

edit: looks a bit Mythos too, but mythos is kidna different/cartoony

posted a message on Am I the only one who wants to see the Bosses of Yore come back?
My guess is andariel and duriel are too weak to re-incarnate? I don't know enough about lore. There are other semi-nude demons and bug things that can replace them. I found that diablo2's story was pretty lacking inside the game, aside a bit from baal. We don't know their story too well from the game, or their personality (except a bit of baal like I said), so why do they need to come back? any old cool demon could repace them IMO, because they failed to personalize the monsters and make the player know them more intimately.
Cain and Tyrael for instance have accomplished this rather well, since tyrael appears in several cutscenes, you speak with him several times, etc. and Cain talks lots as well, also being in the original diablo. Thankfully/understandably both of those NPCs will be in the game.

edit: MijnWraak make a sort of good point (perhaps unknowingly)... they all just had superficial/extranious features that people cared about (or rather didn't care much about), due to the lack of character development.

There is no such thing as abusing re-specs IMO, except for changing specs in combat, which should definately and ovbiously be disabled.

Regardless of how long it takes to level to 80 in Diablo 2, that was not the intention of blizzard, and that is not level 90-95, and that's generally only multiplayer with decked out items. Not only that, but 2-3 days is an extremely vague term meaning up to 36 hours. 36 hours of grinding my ass off is not fun. Why should people have to use cheats/character editors to just respec to another build in single player? (and why should it not be allowed in multi?)

Well spore was announced a long long ass time ago. You weren't expecting a D3? I didn't care much for D2 so I wasn't thinking about it, but for example with Starcraft, I knew they would make a sequel, it's just a matter of time. Thinking about it, I would say the very same for Diablo, as should anyone.
