I guess it's basically up to yourself to define what a 'hardcore' gamer is. I see it as one who spends a lot of time playing competetively, and play not only to have fun, but to win and be 'the best'.

A lot of people will call themselves hardcore gamers, and I don't really care. Whatever works for them, right?

I see your point - fun is one thing but being the best rules! I checked out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcore_gamer and have come to the conclusion that maybe i'm just jealous of the 'hardcore' gamers who can spend time doing what i used to do :( so from the list i would categorise myself now as a 'Mid-core gamer' - amazing the actual categories they have. so, your right - whatever. but i still think being pigeon-holed for some marketing campaign is creepy...

i just registered now things are hotting up and my first reply sounded like i was a troll :( so i thought i would just say on record - hi, i am not a troll!

one thing that bugs me however (now that i'm here) is how people classify themselves as 'hardcore' gamers? i have been playing games for ages, ZX81 -> c64 -> Amiga -> SNES (friends at uni) -> PS -> PS2 -> WII. i think sony/ms are 'latching' onto this hardcore gamer thing as if they are the only platform that supports 'hardcore' gamers - b0ll0x. i bet a person who has played mario carts to death and knows every box and bend and shortcut or a person who has played all the mini games and seen all the different endings of an rpg does not call themselves a 'hardcore' gamer - they just like playing games. in my opinion calling yourself a hardcore gamer is paramount to calling yourself a trainspotter or carbooter, a bit geeky at best. its just rhetoric, turn something upside down, big-box-little-box, reinvent the same thing and sell it again (or in sony/ms world - use it to sell what they want). that sounds quite poetic so i shall leave it there.

no one will probably read this, but hey :) anyhow, really looking forward to d3, been waiting long enough, know i will be the (not 'a', but 'the') monk, its going to rock, may try the pvp now it sounds like it's opened up to none-trainspotters (good call blizz), top site, laters dudes and dudetts.

I have been waiting for Diablo III so I can get a new PC. I will actually need four (as there are four of me), however my challenge and financial problems are not your concern :) So my question, is 'recommended' going to give me everything or what is the absolute best system that will give me everything turned on?

Also, what bandwidth do I need? Currently I have a 56K modem - will that be enough or should I look to upgrade, especially as there will be four of us accessing it simultaneously all with everything turned on?

ps. awesome site, excellent casts, my source of Diablo nutrition for months... top job!
