That would suck if they screwed up the online play by charging for it. I dont think I would buy it if they charged for online play. At least not right away. I like single player games also so I would probably wait for the price to go down.

I agree consoles online capabilities suck except for Xbox and you have to pay for that and I dont like Xbox. They wouldnt move it to consoles because not everybody has a gaming console or is going to get one of the next generation ones but almost everybody has a computer. I wouldnt mined seing some Diablo offshoot games for consoles though they would need a different setup someting like morrowind's set up.
