posted a message on The Three Prime Evils: We've Only Ever Killed Their Human Hosts
    Quote from Domestic

As far as I am concerned, Diablo really should be dead as we killed him in hell and that should be that.
There is a consistent focus on the importance of the human bodies of the Three whenever their death is discussed by fans that's never implied to be relevant in the Diablo lore itself. Or rather it's there in Diablo I but not really in Diablo II and certainly not in the books. I blame other fantasy works for this obsession with the host body.

    Quote from Dauroth

The lore describes The Great Evils as eternal enteties
This. Or you can say that they are even forces of nature itself, and that they are required to exist in order to maintain the balance in the universe.
I really like this concept. Unfortunately I don't think it's a turn that the story will take even though the basic idea is well supported by the grand cosmological structure in the Diablo universe of Heaven and Hell. It's seems rather unlikely due to Trag'Oul's rather cryptical statements that Heaven and Hell aren't the masters they think they are, thus removing them from the center of the cosmological structure and instead simply making them powerful entities among others.

I'm still in Belinsk and I can remember why, so I rum around and level, sell some stuff, and turn it off.
You mean you can't remember, right? Sounds like not so much fun :(

Phrozendragon would be PISSED if he came in here and saw a spoiler on accident lol.
I never once opened this thread until now :hammy:

I finally got a DS last week and this game and finished it after playing it almost straight for three days with no guide or nothing. All in all, I agree with what has been said.

I was afraid about the graphics at first, but the 3D grew on me. And the summons and unleashes are just as over the top as always. In GS1&2, Boreas was a snow machine. in GS3, Boreas is a huge unicorn train that SMASHES A MOUNTAIN before sending a showwave of ice across the ENTIRE WORLD. HELL YEAH!

Bosses are way too easy. The scouts with the psy grenades were close, but everything else was cakewalk. Compare that to the gruesome Saturos/Menardi/Fusion Dragon at character lvl 27 in the original. Or Dullahan in GS2.

I like the cutscenes and dialog though, after all it is a staple of the series :)

Story is nice. Yeah there are lost of new ruins everywhere, but unlike with Diablo I'm not as concerned. Though I'm not sure I like the flying spaceship we're bound to see in the next game.

Music is bad. Or rather, it's ok, but nothing compared to the old games. Best track was the remix of the Saturos battle theme from GS1, go figure.

And lastly, why the f*ck can't I backtrack?!?!??! Fortunately I had a save before Belinsk, but that's 10 hours of lost playtime if I want all the djinn. After I've that I'll take a swing at the extra bosses, although it seems even Dullahan has been watered down :(

Overall a satisfying experience, but not as much as I'd expected.

posted a message on How do the rankings work on the forums?
Diablo Fan, Zealot etc. were once based on post count, however nowadays the title cannot be changed. People get different titles depending on when they register (and if they have a curse account).

Some people have special titles. These have been acquired in several ways:
    • In the past we used vBulletin, and back then titles would change depending on post count at certain intervals: 10, 50, 100, 200 etc. When we swithed to IPB instead this stopped, but some of those titles seemed to stay in the system (zealot, sexton etc). I don't know why some people didn't get the Diablo Fan title (which is intended as the standard title), but it might have been some weird stuff happening when the forum was converted.
    • Some users have special titles. These have either been handed out as contest rewards, or they remain from said users time on the staff.
    • Moderators and administrators can change their own and other people's titles.

I voted vanity items. I'm not sure they will include it, but it's the only store they could do. Anything else would conflict with Blizzard's current design philosophies that they employ for WoW.

    Quote from Medievaldragon

Hi guys, I posted about this book around 3am EST when I saw it at Amazon. More info in a few days. I can confirm -- Diablo III: Book of Cain is CANON.
Nice. I hope it's more than simply a recap of D2&1. Wait it has to be, it's clearly not marketed to the casual Diablo gamer.

posted a message on The major flaw of an Auction House
    Quote from Xtapolapacetl

The only problem with AH searching is that there's those different prefixes and suffixes that make items just a hair different than each other. For instance ** of the bear, ** of the wolf , etc. I wonder how they're going to account for this.
Like I said, a system that allows you to categorize images based on prefixes and suffixes would be very useful. In fact, if the system were to function similar to how it does in WoW it would be a requirement.

For instance, you could be looking for swords in the 35-40 level range that had the prefix "Dragon's", and taht would then perhaps return fifty results of "Dragon's Bastard Sword" or "Dragon's Longsword" etc.

posted a message on The major flaw of an Auction House
    Quote from blizter

Diablo 3 players are only seperated by regions, not servers. Items drop way more often in Diablo 3 than in WoW where an auction house was successful.

Conclusion: An Auction House would be way too frikkin overwhelmed by items.
I'm not sure whether we can say more items drop more in Diablo 3. More gear perhaps, but a lot of it will be trash that's going to be salvaged, in fact from what we know it seems Blizzard is intending for the salvaging mechanic to play a big part in stabilizing the economy. So most items you find will simply be broken down by yourself and never sold to anyone else, and that's how most people will play.

Even so, as stated above, it doesn't really matter if there's a ton of shit on the AH, as long as the system is designed with that in mind. From a pure buyer's perspective, the interface will play a big part here and should allows you to sort through all current auctions well enough. I imagine there will be several options here: similar to WoW it seems reasonable you will be able to search for auctions by names, item type and level range.

However, I can also see several new parameters being introduced. Perhaps we'll be able to search for items with a specific prefix? Perhaps we can add certain modifiers we want to appear on our item.

That is, if the AH looks much like it does in WoW, which I'm not entirely convinced it will, I'm certain there will be a streamlined trading fuction implemented, but if Blizzard does something other than a pure AH we shall have to wait and see.

    Sorceress
Perhaps Magistrate's DiabloWiki.com - Energy Shield Lightning Sorceress by Seth Energy Shield Lightning Sorceress by Seth could be a useful aid. It's a pure lightning build, but maybe some of the concepts will still be of use to you.

    Assassin
Ferret's DiabloWiki.com - Trapsin by Ferr3t Trapsin by Ferr3t could also be of use to you. It uses DiabloWiki.com - Fire Blast Fire Blast instead of DiabloWiki.com - Wake of Inferno Wake of Inferno since it provides a much greater damage potential.

    Druid
Similar to your build, but opts for DiabloWiki.com - Heart of Wolverine Heart of Wolverine rather than Oak Sage. Very extensive and detailed guide.

    Necromancer
The summonmancer was always a lot of fun, except that I think I had 20 in raise skeleton and skeletal mage back then & found out how quickly they died in hell mode. Sucked pretty badly since you couldn't reset skills then. Anyway, I'm thinking this will work nicely with some +skill gear letting me raise a few skeletons while my golem & revived monsters take the brunt of the damage & I spread curses. I'm still not sure which golem to take, and just recently found out that the blood golem doesn't cause you to take damage anymore so I might switch to that instead of fire.
This build unlike the other ones I have experience with. I'd recommend screwing the mages and using a DiabloWiki.com - Clay Golem Clay Golem. The skeletons suck if they're at level 20 in Hell yes, but the goal is to get as much +summoning as possible. Golems do despicable damage, so clay is good due to the slow effect that works wonders on bosses and helps your skeletons stay alive.
