If they are only interested in ROI (and we know they are since Activision merge) then there would be indeed no need to do that in 5-6 years from now. D4 may be the last of the Diablo series to ever release on PC.
That is why we are left with very few choices as aRPG fans:
1) Forget Diablo series and look elsewhere
2) Wait for D4 and hope they don't blunder it
3) Build further on D3 and demand modding for it
I kind of don't like 1) since there will pass at least 6-7 years for an aRPG with higher quality engine than D3 to appear. 2) is scary to even hope for - even if they hire the PoE developer to join their team, the marketing wing could blunder the whole game with idiotic microtransactions and loot boxes (and we very well know what they are capable of after the Blizzcon 2018 fiasco). So, I say we go with 3), make some petition and demand modding for D3. Once we have this we can easily change the game to the level of PoE (fix drop chances, redo itemization, redo character progression) and build an e-Sport around an improved version of Challenge Rifts to solidify the game presence even without new content (when modders stop with it).

2.6.1 was highly popular because it was the greatest balance patch so far.

Yes, but aren't those I mentioned also quite bad ?
I would hate HOTS looking Diablo 4.

They can take all the time they want with D4 but I wish they were more straight about D3 future - is that Druid coming or not? I've lost my hope naturally after that hideous Blizzcon but hell, even Heroes of the Storm got straight talk so why not D3?

Good things:
-LoN buff
-Primal item when clearing GR70 first time
-After all, this patch narrows the gap of different builds
-None doubling theme
Disappointed:
- No item buffs
- No new content
Better than nothing but it's clear they are very afraid of breaking the game by adding anything interesting.

I hope Diablo 3 gets some damage control driven improvements. Balancing, Paragon rework, Runewords, new game mode and such.

My childhood just ended.

I sincerely believe the bolded text isn't for D4 but this is: "Some of them are going to take longer than others". They wouldn't used such sentence if D4 was to come 2019. Perhaps they made video hoping people would read between the lines D4 is coming at some point, but "enjoy Diablo things we have for this year. " You know, they tried to find a way to dodge the 2016 Necro reveal catastrophe with their 2018 news (druid, remasters). Of course, it didn't go very well.

My hype train crashes only if D3 expansion isn't revealed. Tbh, Druid and patches would make me happy as well.

My guess:
D4 takes still years to make. They had main job postings for a new Diablo this spring meaning it obviously won't be released a year after.
There wasn't enough job postings in 2015 to create D4.
It's either
1. D2 remaster + Druid dlc
2. D3 Expansion

Yes. D3 fan in me says we are getting expansion. Realist in me says we are getting druid dlc. Analyst in me says that one of the projects must be D3 related as there's multiple projects meaning over two.
