posted a message on Facebook Beta Key Contest and Thoughts
This idea is good. I'm another one of the people who never even bothers with it, there's already at least 100 comments by the time I see the question.

I've got class all of most days and study when I'm not there.

While it's true there are a lot of other contests, this one definitely forces people to sit on Facebook staring at the Diablofans page. That might be ok for people who have absolutely no life prospects but the rest of us don't have a shot.

posted a message on Diablo 3 an eSports?
From what I hear they're putting far more effort into pvp than previous games in the series though it was never an aspect of Diablo that interested me.

I find the entire concept of an eSport kind of strange. People haven't really ever liked watching someone else play computer games.

posted a message on Release date (is probably not) tomorrow
What would be funny is if it were something like an announcement about a my little pony game.

I had a look at some of the beta footage of Guild Wars 2. They talked up the graphics but I saw a lot of painted on grass during the videos. Maybe Skyrim with HD retexture mods has spoiled me visually.

Anyway, whatever the news is I'm sure it'll be good for someone. Considering how many games I enjoy playing it will probably be good for me.

That's the great thing about the gaming industry, there's always something to play until something else is released.

posted a message on So what happens if you don't win a beta key?
If I don't get a beta key I won't be terribly upset. I would love to play it but I think the extended wait for the game and the amount of information flee flowing from the people who do get to play the beta means I don't think there would be much surprise to be found in the limited content you get to see.

What would be great about being able to play the beta is feeling the atmosphere and being able to interact with the world first hand.

If I don't get a key then I'll just concentrate on all my studies (I have 18 assignments to do this semester) and play the game when it's released, if I do get one I'll be all over it like a dog on a shmacko.

posted a message on For those of us not lucky enough to win a beta key...
There's always hope. Similar to there being hope of winning the lottery. At least it hasn't cost us anything to enter.

I used to get multiple beta invites for every wow expansion but Diablo 3 beta keys elude me as if Blizzard is upset I cancelled my wow subscription.

But hey, thanks for the heads up, and good luck to you.

posted a message on SEA not getting enough love?
They had an AU NZ Twitter comp a while back. They'll ignore you in opt-in as far as I know as they're only taking US players that way. So basically you're stuck on the fansites spamming 'constructive' posts in threads and praying you're lucky.

It isn't just SEA though, the EU is screwed in as many ways as us. I'm sure the release date (whenever that may be) will be a day behind the US one so they have a nice headstart too. After a while you get used to the second class treatment even though in Australia we pay up to twice the price for games.

posted a message on How hard is hard, really?
I still vividly remember the first time I ever went to Hell difficulty in D2. I walked out there and was annihilated by a zombie. It wasn't because it was hard, it was because I just was not prepared for it. My gear, in hindsight was lacking, my level was relatively low and my knowledge of the game's mechanics was mediocre.

If my experience in 2 is anything to go by I think how hard it will be for someone will have a lot to do with those same factors. In so saying that they're more than capable of making enemies force you to react within a certain time or die, require a plan going in etc that can make it more than simply my numbers are greater than your numbers.

posted a message on What will you be listening while playing the game?
At first I'll listen to the game's music and be fully immersed in the experience. Once my relationship with the game has become 'time to farm for x' and 'time to power level y' I'll switch to whichever music I currently have in Winamp.

Usually some form of rock or metal, I find good metal focusses me very well during grind sessions, keeps me on a nice, even rhythm.

posted a message on End game ideas.
The problem with a lot of random quest generation in games is that they lack interesting back story and fall into broad categories of escort, assassinate, retrieve, deliver.

What Blizzard have always tried to do is keep story rich, though in WoW many quests became pointless busy work with little to no ties to the main story.

While a bunch more quests would be fun, especially ones you would not be penalised for ignoring if you so wished, I think unless a lot of effort is put into the system you end up with simple busy work

If they intend to keep a profit going on the RMAH then I do see more content being produced in order to do that. They have an interest in keeping the place turning over as much as possible.

posted a message on I dont understand
I was going to mention the same thing Shifty_Pwrs, about there being multiple languages though I was going to say there is value in having the game tested by native speakers of the languages you've got the game running in. This way you get reports about tiny typos and grammatical errors your translators may have missed which really detract from the feel of quality a game has.

Different cultures also relate in different ways. Although they'll have knowledge of this from their experience in D2 and WoW there's likely value in seeing just how the EU market utilises the RMAH and other systems as it may be in a completely different fashion.

In saying all this, I'm in Australia and pretty much screwed as far as beta opt in is concerned. Even the Facebook comp was US only. We got one Twitter comp but I had no luck there.

posted a message on CE's Goodies
I preordered a CE but the shops in my town have this interesting habit of giving CEs to their friends over the people who actually ordered it first. So, if I actually do get one this time instead of getting screwed over again I'll probably use the items at first to check them out, then get bored with them until I've got a character in some kind of end state where I won't be changing them any more and use the items again.

It's always interesting to see the reactions of other people ingame to players who have CE items. Usually either scorn or admiration.

posted a message on Development announcements; Blizzard has learnt, I hope.
I agree with you Rogueelement though I think they announced D3 so long ago because maybe they were as excited about it as they knew we would be.

I'd definitely prefer an announcement closer to completion too though. I found that after a while I lost interest and stopped avidly following the fansites for new info as it began to feel like it just would never be completed.

For me it was a bit like religion; "I'm never going there, and even if what they say is true I won't be there any time soon". The chances of me being hit by a bus and waking up with a copy of the game are slim to nil.

I study a lot (like in a university) and it definitely is a good distraction... but here I am, trying to make constructive posts in the hope of getting my little taste of heaven. What will be tricky is finding time this semester to actually play the game when it's released, I've got a workload you wouldn't believe.

posted a message on What is the first thing your going to do in game.
I'll make a Barbarian, turn off any and all chat/multiplayer things, then play the game through solo, disturbance free.

I may play it with a close friend of mine who is a Diablo fanatic but I'm really not interested in playing with people I don't know.

Another thing I'll do very early on is turn the graphics all the way up, then find tweaks and tools to push them further if possible.

posted a message on Anybody else not feeling D3 anymore?
I was extremely excited about Diablo 3 when it was announced. Now it's been so long since, that excitement has waned considerably. In the end there's only so long a dog will stare at a steak in a butcher's window before he goes elsewhere for food.

It'll be nice if it's a challenge, especially if it's one I don't need anyone else in the game to achieve. I spent years raid leading in wow. I want to be as far away from other people in games as I can now. Anyone who's had to raid lead should understand that.

I'll most likely stay away from the AH too, as well as keep any chat windows closed.

posted a message on Influx in site traffic - or is there?
I've been coming here a very long time. Just never had any interest in posting on the forums. I'm sure there are many people like me who come for information rather than community.

You should have a look at it once the game is released.
