    posted a message on Talent-"Tree" Re-Design

    Hey folks!

So i was watching quinn69 the other day talking about d4 and the feedback he's accumulating to send directly back to blizzard and i was curious if we might really have an impact on the development.

It seems to me that hardly anyone is complacent with the current twig they showed us concerning our character customization with passive points. Some ppl want a huge intricate thing like poe, lots of different routes to branch out to and unique game-changing passives to completely alter your character. But thats poe and not d4 right?

So what do you guys think of this "slightly" changed system to replace the current talent-tree and bring back some nostalgia from d2:

Instead of passive points we get on level-up to put in that tree, we have slots/sockets in the ui where we can place jewels/charms.Those items will drop from monsters or can be crafted - in three different rarities: magic / rare / legendary. Similar to this rarity the sockets will also only support either blue, yellow or orange items so you can't just put all legendary in - and you would be able, further down the path, to choose wether you want eg. 4 yellows and one legendary or 1 yellow and 2 legendaries. There could also be sockets that support all colours or ones that double the stat of the socketed gem.

Blue and yellow jewels/charms should drop like normal loot and roll normal afixes to open up the decision wether you want more offence (damage, procs etc.) or defense (life, the res you needed to cap out) or support (speed, lifeleech, ressource generation).

The legendary ones on the other hand should be gamechanging and probably be craftable to not deny people the possibility to get that build-defining stat.

I was thinking about something along the lines of

    - 50% more aoe on whirlwind, but less damage or

    - 50% less max health but double movement speed or

    - fireball changes to fire-nova or

    - whatever you can think of, possibilities are endless.

The sockets will be unlocked via crafting/leveling/quests/achievements/gold/something else or maybe even everything together. Putting in one of the jewels in an empty socket will be possible from everywhere, while replacing (and maybe destroying) an old, already socketed gem should only be possible via masters in town - so you can't change them mid-dungeon.

We would get highly customizable passives for our character, a great possiblity to implement new builds and passives along the way and all in all a more diverse loot-system, where you want to pick up every yellow jewel you can get, even in end-game.

So, what do you think about this?
