Right, my problem with Vision Quest in general is the constant spamming of abilities that need to go into cooldown to proc the effect.

If I were to go with it though, I would definitely incorporate at least one summoning skill into the mix, each minute or so refreshing it. That way at least 1 of your needed cooldowns will be up PRIOR to going into a fight, taking away the need use a skill that you don't necessarily need to be casting and you can get down to the business of damage quicker. Ill work up my idea for vision quest and edit the post

(EDIT: Nevermind Ill take my build somewhere else haha, didnt see the "Summonless" as the idea for this build)

    Quote from HunterSCtv

I can't explain why I'm smitten by this game. I know it will likely be the last huge release in my gaming career (one I will enjoy for many many years). I've only had 3 or 4 releases like this in my entire life and I've had blind faith in the development decisions we've seen this past year. I think the biggest factor capturing me is the million and one different ways to build a character. I will be discovering crazy new powerful builds forever and this is a real creative outlet for myself.

While I agree in principle that this aspect of build customization drives players to continue playing the game.. do you think that the way they implemented skills and runes helps that for this release?

Im of the opinion that having NO decisionmaking when it comes to character build is a bad thing. Sure, leveling a character in D3 you will be choosing which skills to use.. but theres no connection to the character as "my guy" or "my product through decisions" because I can change the character completely in 10 seconds and 3 clicks.. I feel this cheapens the character in some aspect.

I do like the rune system, but it is more or less the exact same thing to just have (numbers wont be correct but) 20 skills with 5 runes each (100 options) or just have 100 skills that you unlock. Its just different packaging..

I feel like a lot of the aspects that they have implemented do everything in their power to simplify the game, to take any player decision making out of the equation and in doing so, take skill out of the equation. I liked the D2 skill system from the aspect that I COULD potentially mess up, have a bad build, whatever.

Im not saying I would like to see the new system taken out completely, but maybe put a timer on build changes, mandatory to do it in town and so forth to make builds a more interesting and thought provoking challenge..

Im certainly not trolling with the original post.

I play hardcore, I throw a lot of time into games I love. Solo and in a group blah blah blah, much like many of you will.

The original post was not to say there havent been any improvements, I think if I made that point, there would be no follow on posts.

The point is simply to express my feelings of being letdown somewhat with what the product has become.

CERTAINLY this game will still be enjoyable, and CERTAINLY my hopes and expectations were set high.

I posted after finally getting into the beta and playing it through a few times, after watching every video and commentary out there. Im not just commenting out of left field or looking for a response out of the masses.

I simply meant to express my feeling of.. "oh, so this is really what it is.." kind of initial "meh" feeling..

In regards to the "overhype" or whatever you want to call it.. and then the response by Bashiok and others that the consumer should not put too high hopes into the game.. I think this is insane to ask of us after all the money they have put in to just that, hyping this game out of control. I think one problem Blizzard is going to run into here is not with the hardcore gamer or long time fan, I can see them quickly losing the interest of the casual passerby picking up the game. I'll be there grinding it out, I just hope that the end-product is enough to hook in a larger fan base.

You might counter that by saying hooking and keeping a large casual base doesnt effect the hardcore gamer much, but I disagree. ESPECIALLY with the auction house being implemented, I think the bigger the player base, the more intriguing this idea becomes simply in creating a market for those who choose to pour hours into the game to then trade and sell their goods.

A larger base obviously increases Blizzard support as far as patches and what not in the long run as well.

Haha, I get carried away and just ramble on with these posts, idk.

(QUICK SIDE NOTE, where are you guys building these cool character build signatures I looked around and couldnt find a program, is it just user made?)

    Dae and Thril,

I agree with both your posts there. Maybe Im building it up a bit too much in my own head.

In reality, I do think the changes they have made will make the game more enjoyable.. and the features they have changed that i DONT like, for the most part, have the possibility of making the game more newbie friendly.. a larger persistent community will only help the game and for that I suppose I can live with what I dont like.

Im with you haha, my point was not that I was turned off to the game once I played beta.. just that it wasnt what I expected, not quite blown away.

The way joining games now works seems at first impression to make it TOO accessible.. not just with the beta content but I am imagining it will do so throughout the game. The ability to just jump in whenever you want, at any point along the story/quest line kind of shrinks the game IMO.

Takes away that feel of a long journey to get through to a boss..

Character model customization seems like it would have been a somewhat easy option to build in.. Wouldnt have needed to be extensive.. but a few simple options could really make your character more "yours" .. not sure on the word there

Other things bug me on the game as well, I am trying very hard not to go into a "they consolized my d3 wah" rant haha.. I DO appreciate the business model behind making the game very accessible to a large crowd.. but I feel they over-did it.

In response to the more variety.. I agree to an extent there. The ruin system adds some customization to your skills.. I think that will be a "wait and see".. Cant decide if I love it yet.

I suppose my problem is how similar to D2 this game looks. SURE the graphics are improved.. but its 2012..
I just played Torchwood as a timewaster and it looks similar. Just saying.

The real point of the thread was to think back to BEFORE you saw anything so you had no image besides your own to place on the game.. did this fit what you guys wanted to see out of it?

Big series fan, played religiously since '96..

    However-

Seems like every other thread I read consists of atleast 3 or 4 posts about how this will be the "BEST GAME EVER"..

Does anyone actually believe that? To me.. D3 is a let down. I am extremely excited to play and get rolling with it no doubt.. but think back to before that first video came out, before screenshots were released.. is the the product you expected?

Sure it has its merits, I think its going to be fun and relatively successful.. but what I imagined for the last what... 12 years since D2.. this just isn't up to par.

The graphics are cool but uninspired. Interactive environments are a neat touch, I dont know what the look of the game is missing but it just seems.. meh. Cant put my finger on it.

Not going to start on the PvP dilemma, we all know thats a major gaffe..

In general, I'm personally not BLOWN AWAY by this release.. would love to hear why I'm wrong and this is the best game ever.

Commence the spitting on my shoes and what not.

Looking to build a new gaming rig

anyone know a good site or program for making a virtual build before I dive in to buying things?

Obviously I could use Cyberpower or other commercial sites but that doesnt give me all the options, looking for a program that I can build my own just to look at and plug in prices and what not

    Anyone?

Ahhh thank you sir. After finding your post I managed to waste about an hour of my life watching videos of games I dont own and have no intention of buying, BUT it was extremely entertaining. After each video I found myself with a big cheesy smile on my face and couldnt help but watch the next one. Good site, I liked the Witcher 2 review , primarily because I hated that game about as much as he did, and it poked at my funny bone weak spot in mentioning my favorite place to use as a negative reference.. the dick sucking factory.

Theres always the next guy out there reading reviews and builds people decide on and then taking a look in a random forum and seeing something negative, turning him off to his build he was so set on.

Research is important, you should look around for sure, primarily IMO when deciding on your processor id take a look at the combo of mobo and cpu and look for overclock capabilities. Worst case scenario you just juice up your system a little more and buy yourself another year.

Having said that Im in the mix for a new PC from the ground up.. not that D3 is going to be too intensive for my system but I want to move back to desktops, and lets face it building your rig is just plain fun. Ill post what Im considering (about midway through my decision process so please comment and critique)

I get all my game information from knock off Italian sites.. just like I do my taxes on a shady Argentinian "Cheap Tax Prep" site and I always respond to Nigerian Princes who have selected me personally to spam my email in an attempt to unload money on me..

Tone down the hype on this one till it comes from something reputable
