The Diablo IV Season 4 PTR: What You Need to Know

The first Public Test Realm (PTR) for Diablo IV is on the horizon, offering you the chance to test upcoming changes and features for Season 4! PTR will be available from April 2 through April 9 for players with a PC Battle.net account.

The purpose of the PTR is to test updates and features alongside you before the launch of Season 4. Then we’ll take your feedback from PTR to make adjustments to Season 4 before it goes live for everyone. Your experience in Sanctuary is shaking up in a big way: here’s an overview of what you need to know.

    Itemization

We have three guiding pillars for our itemization updates: quality over quantity, the best items having a journey of power and improvement that you can work toward, and of course, having items feel satisfying and exciting to use.

For a full list of what’s new or adjusted for Classes, check out the Class Update patch notes here, but here’s a summary of the itemization changes:

    Basic Item Updates

    • Reduced number of affixes: now 3 on Legendary items, and 2 on Rare items.
    • Smaller pool of more potent affixes.
    • More relevant affixes (eg: ranks of a single Core Skill).
    • Only Sacred items in World Tier 3, only Ancestral items in World Tier 4.
    • Affix values are tuned up to be punchier; we want you (and the fiends of Sanctuary) to really feel them!
    • New affixes and positioning of affixes:
      • Resource per Second
      • Resource on Kill
      • Lucky Hit: Apply Vulnerable
      • Life per Hit
      • Basic Skill Ranks

    Miscellaneous Updates

    • Legendary items dropped from enemy level 95+ are always 925 item power.
    • Gems are simpler, more useful, and have a much longer crafting tail.
      • Gems now have Core stats, and the more conditional bonuses have been simplified.
    • Salvage, crafting, and rewards have all been tuned.
      • Significantly reduced item drop rates (less time sorting, more time slaying!)
      • Item rerolling gold cost capped when Enchanting.
      • Material removal and consolidation.
      • Forgotten Souls can now be obtained from Whispers and are now a global rare drop from Elites.
    • Uniques appear earlier.
      • Some Uniques now dropping starting in World Tier I and II.
      • All Uniques can now drop in World Tier III.
      • Uber Uniques can start dropping from monster level 55, drops at 925 item power.

    New crafting system: Tempering

    • This new system will allow you to add affixes to your items at the Blacksmith through a new reusable item that can drop from most content in-game, called Temper Manuals!

    • These are categorized like the Codex of Power (eg: Resource, Mobility, etc)
      • Once gained, you retain these for unlimited use!
    • Each manual contains a handful of affixes; you are able to attach one at a time.
    • Affixes can be rerolled up to the item’s Temper Reroll limit.
    • Ancestral items can have two Tempered affixes from different categories.

    Greater Affixes

    • Only appearing on Ancestral Legendary and Unique items, these are more powerful versions of normal affixes, with a 1.5x multiplier on the affix’s maximum roll.
    • An item with a Greater Affix will be immediately obvious, with a unique audio cue, as well as a I up to a IV next to the item name indicating how many affixes are Greater.
      • eg: Helm (Ancestral) – II
    • Each affix on an item has a chance to be Greater in World Tier III & IV.
    • Players cannot Enchant into a Greater affix – they can only be found!

    Masterworking

    • A late-game crafting system to upgrade items, using materials gathered from The Pit.
    • Improves the value of your current affixes.
      • There are 12 upgrade ranks.
      • Every 4 ranks, a single affix is massively upgraded.
      • Other ranks slightly increase the value of all affixes.

    Codex of Power updates

    • All Legendary Aspects now appear in the Codex of Power, so you can focus on chasing great items instead of managing your inventory.
    • The highest roll Legendary you salvage is stored in your Codex.
    • Legendary Affix ranged increase based on item tier (Normal, Sacred, Ancestral).
    • Most Legendary Affix ranges have been increased.
    • The UI has been revamped, now includes manual and keyword search.
      • You can also favorite Legendary Aspects to make them easier to find!

    Helltide Reborn

A tide so nice we made it twice, here’s what’s new in the revamped Helltide event to bring the depths of Hell to the surface of Sanctuary:

    Helltide Threat

    • As you battle through Helltides, you will generate Threat – how much will be determined by the difficulty of monster and how often you’re securing Tortured Gifts within Helltide. Dying will reset your Threat.
    • There are three Helltide Threat Tiers, with each increasing the danger and frequency of monster ambushes. At Tier 3, you will become Hell-Marked.
      • Achieving maximum Threat will initiate a brief ambush frenzy of maximum enemy density. The ambush will end with a final Hellborne spawn, an immensely powerful agent of Hell, resurrected from the tortured souls of Sanctuary’s most powerful champions. There are five variants representing each Class in Diablo IV.
      • Upon activating the Hellborn ambush, your Threat will reset.

    Accursed Ritual

    • Baneful Hearts can primarily be earned through opening Tortured Gift chests and can be used at the Accursed Ritual location.
    • A scene of shocking gore, the Accursed Ritual is the ultimate testament to the disturbing lengths the manic Cultists will go to appease their dark wishes. It is here where you can begin the Accursed Ritual.
    • Deposit three Baneful Hearts to begin the ritual, and you will be swarmed with a dense demonic ambush. Other players within your subzone will be alerted that the ritual has begun if they wish to join you in your fight.
    • This ambush will climax with the arrival of the Blood Maiden, an immensely powerful demonic creature who will offer great reward upon her death.

World Tier I and II adjustments

    • To get players into the thick of Helltides much earlier in their overall Character journey, the PTR will see these upcoming adjustments to help make Helltide more fun and rewarding in World Tier I & II.
      • All Tortured Gifts are Mystery Chests.
      • No roaming bosses or ambient meteors.
      • Less monster density overall compared to World Tier III and IV.

    The Pit of Artificers

There are rumors that deep within the network of dungeons crisscrossing the north of Sanctuary, there are strange varieties of ore, perfect for crafting exceptionally crafted armor with secret Horadric techniques.

    • Upon entering World Tier IV, you’ll receive a priority Quest to complete a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon. Upon completion, you’ll begin to collect Runeshard during endgame activities. Collect enough Runeshard to ultimately activate the Obelisk in Cerrigar.
    • Activating the Obelisk will send you to The Pit. Your goal will be to slay enough monsters before a 10-minute timer runs out. Each player death removes time from the clock: first death removes 30 seconds, second death removes 60 seconds, third and subsequent deaths will remove 90 seconds.

    • If you slay enough monsters, a portal will appear, taking you to the boss’s arena.
    • Killing the boss before the timer expires will grant you Masterworking materials and unlocks the next tier of The Pit.
      • Killing the boss with 4-6 minutes to spare grants you an additional Tier unlock.
      • Killing the boss with 6 or more minutes to spare grants you two additional Tier unlocks.
      • The Pit has hundreds of Tiers of difficulty.
        • If the Mastery timer expires before you finish running through the Pit you’ll still receive loot, but won’t receive any Masterworking materials.
    • The Pit can be undertaken with groups up to four, with the player who opened The Pit receiving the lion’s share of materials.
      • Only the player who opened The Pit has the chance of receiving the Materials used for summoning Tormented Echoes.

    Boss Ladder Updates

    • The Echo of Andariel joins the ladder in our Season 4 PTR, in the same bracket as her brother Duriel, with the same Uber Unique drop rate. With a mix of Shadow, Fire, Lightning, and her iconic Poison attack, Andariel stands ready to face all who dare fathom her demise.
      • Summoning parts can be acquired from Beast in Ice and Lord Zir.
    • Tormented Echoes of all ladder bosses can be summoned with Stygian Stones, obtained from deep within The Pit.
      • Stygian Stones are needed along with an increased amount of summoning materials, but fear not – they also drop more rewards!
      • Tormented Echoes will be level 200.
      • All items dropped are item level 925.
      • Defeating your first Tormented Echo drops one Resplendent Spark as a first-time reward (account bound).

    Features Offered for Testing

We will have servers for PTR in our largest regions: North America, Europe, Korea and Japan, South-East Asia, and Australia. Once you log-in through Battle Net, your account will carry over the following account-based progress:

    • Campaign Completion
    • Mounts and Skill Points
    • Fog of War
    • Altar of Lilith Stat bonuses

As so many of the changes apply to the endgame, the following features will be offered:

    • You will be able to instantly boost your character to Level 100.
      • Upon entering the PTR and arriving at Kyovashad, there will be an NPC named ‘PTR boost’. They will only have one dialogue option, which is Boost me to level 100’
    • Upon boosting, you will receive:
      • 100 million gold
      • 1,000 Obols
      • Two random sets of Ancestral gear at item power 920
      • Upgraded Potions
      • Fully unlocked Paragon Glyphs
      • Up to 10 Tempering Manuals (class specific)
      • Base amount of all consumable materials
        • Does not include materials for resources specifically earned for Masterworking, Scattered Prisms and Resplendent Sparks.
        • Materials to enter the Pit and Nightmare Dungeons are granted.
      • Completed Class system mechanics (eg: enchantments for Sorceress, etc).
      • Note: This boost can be repeated with new characters on the PTR, and you can trade between characters as needed.
    • Fog of War will be completely cleared.
    • Additionally, regardless of whether you choose to boost your character for the PTR, Legendary drop rates will be doubled.

Some things will be missing intentionally so we can test the flows we want to keep an eye on, and the Codex of Power won’t be fully unlocked.

    How to Provide Feedback

Your feedback on the changes you will see and experience on the PTR is incredibly important to us, and is vital in ensuring that these changes for Season 4 are the best they can be when they go live in Diablo IV proper. If you participate in the PTR, please let us know what you think!

You can provide feedback through the in-game feedback tool or the Diablo IV PTR forums. Pressing the ‘Esc’ key while in the in-game menu will bring up the ‘Report a Bug’ menu. You can select the dropdown filter and select the ‘In-game feedback tool’ to provide feedback without leaving the game.

    How to Install the PTR

Here are the steps to join the PTR:

    • Open the Blizzard Battle.net App and select Diablo IV from your Games list.
    • In the selector above the Play button, there is a game version drop down menu.
      • Select the option 'Public Test Realm'.
    • Click Install to Install the PTR client. This becomes a Play button when ready.
    • Click Play to log in to the PTR, and select any of the available Test Servers.

If you’re a PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate user, you’ll be able to access the PTR through the same flow as other Battle Net users. Access the Battle Net client through the Xbox App, then continue to access the PTR through Battle Net.

Class Updates and Full Patch Notes

There are a lot of changes coming. For a full rundown, you can see our full updates below, but if you’re looking for a tl;dr, you can expect three high-level concepts for Season 4, which will be reflected in the PTR:

    • There are many impactful Class updates. We are trying to move the needle, updating systems and designs instead of simply setting damage or health higher or lower.
    • We are making flat-damage Legendaries more viable – currently, they don’t scale at the rate we’d like, so now they scale with your Weapon Damage. We’re really interested to watch how this works out, so we’ll be monitoring your feedback both in the PTR and following the launch of Season 4 to see how we might need to change.
    • Opening up designs to be more generally useful, so you can make more connections and more builds! If you love Dust Devils on Barbarians, for example, but are frustrated at not being able to create a viable build to keep them in the deep endgame, we are making broad changes to make a build like that possible. We truly want you to play how you want to play and promote real build diversity.

See the full patch notes here.

For more about the PTR, check out our PTR Overview Campfire Chat on YouTube. We want to thank everyone in advance for your participation and feedback. Diablo IV is evolving rapidly, and we are so excited to not only be sharing these changes with you, but to be building and refining them alongside you. This PTR and Season 4 as a whole is just another step on the journey toward all the things we want to bring to Diablo IV – thank you for being a part of it.

For an in-depth look into what’s coming, read below.

    Season Theme

Season 31 is the Season of the Forbidden Archives. Many adventurers have come to learn the power that dwells within the ancient nephalem artifact, Kanai’s Cube. However, none understands this power better than the equally celebrated and reviled Horadrim, Zoltun Kulle. Kulle was able to unlock and harness the power of the Cube like none before, leveraging its power to siphon and archive the energies of powerful items. With Season 31, we explore the power Kulle might lend to your fingertips if his experiments went unchecked.

For the duration of Season 31, the slots in Kanai’s Cube that allow you to equip three additional Legendary powers will not be restricted to their usual categories. While normally a player can equip one power each from the Weapon, Armor, and Jewelry categories, Season 31 players can mix and match between all three! This might allow you to run two Weapon powers with one Armor power. Or perhaps you might choose to run three Amulet powers instead. The choice is yours, and we’re as eager as you are to experiment with the new build opportunities this creates!

    Season 31 Cosmetic Rewards

Beginning with Season 17, we began re-introducing previous Seasonal rewards to make them available to players who may have missed them the first time around. For Season 31, this means awards originally available from Season 7 are returning to the Season Journey.

However, we know it’s nice to have something new to aim for if you’ve participated in previous Seasons. We’re bringing back End of Journey rewards as introduced in Season 17, with not one, but two new cosmetic rewards for those who complete the entirety of the Season journey. Feast your eyes upon the Valor Portrait Frame and Angelic Treasure Goblin pet!

In addition to the Helm and Shoulders slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll be able to earn a series of portrait frames that embody the snowy, foreboding aura of the Eternal Woods. If you need a warm little pal to keep you cozy through your cold journeys, the Dream of Piers fiery nature should do the trick—when he’s not instilling night terrors in the local fauna.

    Season Journey Rewards

If you’ve been diligently slaying demons for the past few Seasons and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs. You’ll earn one additional tab each Season by finishing the Conqueror tier, up to a maximum of five:

    • Guardian of Sanctuary: Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII within five minutes.
    • Gem of My Life: Level three Legendary Gems to level 55.
    • All I Do IS Win: Complete two Conquests this Season.
    • Kill You: Kill Ghom at level 70 in under 30 seconds on Torment XIII difficulty.
    • Money Ain’t A Thang: Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty.
    • Take U There: Reach Greater Rift level 60 Solo.
    • Power Amplification: Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a level 50+ gem.
    • Cubic Reconfiguration: Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item.

    Seasonal Conquest

Want to prepare your Conquest plan for Season 31? Here are the challenges you’ll face! Returning for Season 31 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete the entire Diablo III campaign from Act I to Act V at level 70 in under 1 hour! Next is Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. On a Good Day/I Can’t Stop encourages you to upgrade your Legendary Gems; level three Legendary Gems to 65 to complete this challenge! Push your way to Greater Rift level 75 to complete Divinity/Lionhearted. Lastly, a fan-favorite for those who enjoy unconventional builds, The Thrill/Superhuman requires completion of a Greater Rift level 45—solo and without any Set items equipped.

    Haedrig’s Gift

Finally, the Class Sets rewarded for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works:

Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely!

The set you receive depends on the class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character.

Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 31:

    • Barbarian – Wrath of the Wastes
    • Crusader – Roland’s Legacy
    • Demon Hunter – Unhallowed Essence
    • Monk – Raiment of a Thousand Storms
    • Necromancer – Bones of Rathma
    • Witch Doctor – Helltooth Harness
    • Wizard – Tal Rasha’s Elements

    Patch 2.7.7 | Game Updates

    • KR Age Restriction
      • Updated Logos for KR Age Restriction from 18 years of age to 19 years of age.
    • Extra progress orb drops from the Soulshard Stain of Sin now works for Challenge Rifts.
    • Extra progress orb drops from the Soulshard Stain of Sin and Altar of Rites node Reaper now only drops from monsters inside Nephalem Rifts, Greater Nephalem Rifts, and Challenge Rifts.

    Ladder Season 6

Our previous Ladder Seasons for Diablo II: Resurrected have showed just how adept adventurers were at saving Sanctuary, racing to be the first to cement their names on the Leaderboard, while striking fear into the tormented hearts of their demonic adversaries in the process.

Ladder Season 6 will usher in a fresh opportunity for brave adventurers to race to Level 99 and amass powerful loot along the way.

    Ladder Season 6 Launch Timing:

    North America

As with previous seasons, Ladder Season 6 will feature different modes:

    Version Description
Pre-Expansion Ladder The standard version of Ladder play that encompasses only the original four acts.
Pre-Expansion Hardcore Ladder The hardcore (only one life) version of Ladder play that encompasses only the original four acts.
Ladder The standard version of Ladder play that encompasses five acts, as it includes the “Lord of Destruction” expansion content.

For those new to Ladder Seasons, you might be wondering what happens to your Shared Stash loot once the current season ends.

Once Ladder Season 5 ends, all Ladder characters will be transferred to their respective non-ladder group. All items in that character group's Shared Stash go into a new Withdraw Only set of Shared Stash tabs, denoted by a check marked Past box. Any items from Ladder Season 4 stored in the Withdraw Only tabs will be lost at this time. You will have all of Ladder Season 6 to withdraw any items you would like to keep from Season 5. When Ladder Season 6 ends, this withdraw only set of Stash Tabs will be overridden with any items in the Ladder Season 6 Shared Stash. Be sure to get any items out before then or they will be forever lost!

May your Ladder race be filled with fiends to eviscerate and bountiful loot.

Return to 1997’s Diablo, the title that launched one of gaming’s most enduring action-RPG franchises. Warriors, Rogues, and Sorcerers can now grab the game from the Battle.net Shop and stand against darkness once again in this genre classic. This release includes:

16 levels of old-school dungeon delving: Slaughter your way from the Tristram cathedral all the way to Hell itself across 16 increasingly challenging levels. Each playthrough features a brand-new, randomly generated dungeon layout that offers a fresh challenge every time you descend into the dark below.

Three iconic character Classes: Whether you prefer to crush skulls as a Warrior, nail monsters from afar as a Rogue, or bend arcane powers to your will as a Sorcerer, Diablo has a Class that suits your style.

Multiplayer demon slaying: Nothing beats battling beasts and demons with friends. Join forces with up to three other players and drive the demons screaming back to Hell together.

So, so much loot: It wouldn’t be a Diablo game without tons and tons of randomly rolled loot. Liberate powerful weapons and armor from your defeated enemies, and upgrade your character’s arsenal.

Grab your sword, string your bow, and ready your spellbook; Tristram awaits.

Season of the Construct begins on January 23 at 10 a.m. PST. Prepare to uncover the powerful secrets of Zoltun Kulle’s Loom with a new Dungeon type called Vaults, a seasonal robotic Seneschal Companion, and Weekly Leaderboards in The Gauntlet. Several key quality-of-life features—including almost constant Helltide events—arrive to help aid your conquests while fighting in the Vaults.

Unearth Zoltun Kulle’s Legacy in a New Questline

A new threat lurks deep beneath the sands of Kehjistan, where the Loom, an ancient technology—designed by Zoltun Kulle and Ayuzhan of Caldeum—has been usurped by the forces of evil. The Demon Malphas is responsible for twisting the Loom for his cruel whims. Zoltun’s former companion Ayuzhan leads you through the treacherous Vaults, desperate to stop the formidable Malphas and his deadly constructs from overtaking Sanctuary.

Travel to the Gatehall, a town center underneath Kehjistan that serves as your base of operations in the fight against the Constructs. The Gatehall is your conduit to access the deadly Vaults— riddled with elemental Hazards and Constructs, these Vaults are the key to harnessing the true potential of the Loom. Travel to the Loom to stop the threat at its source and defeat Malphas in a new Boss fight.

To play the Season of the Construct Seasonal Questline, you must create a new character on the Seasonal Realm and have completed the Main Campaign. Take advantage of the Skip Main Campaign feature once you’ve completed the prologue if you want to jump right in!

Battle side by side with your Seneschal Companion

Wield the power of the Loom by acquiring your very own Seneschal Companion, which becomes available during the Seasonal Questline. In Zoltun’s vision the Seneschal compliments your adventures by engaging directly in the fight or aiding you dutifully on the sidelines.

Using magical Governing and Tuning Stones recovered from the Vaults and elsewhere in Sanctuary, augment your Seneschal to best suit your targeted build for Season of the Construct. Governing Stones determine which attacks your Seneschal can perform, while Tuning Stones will augment those skills and provide greater utility. You can equip your Seneschal with 2 Governing Stones and 6 Tuning Stones, one Governing stone for each attack and three Tuning Stones to augment the ability. There are 12 Governing Stones and 27 different Tuning Stones of different rarities to seek out in the Vaults to unlock the full power of the Seneschal construct.

Tuning and Governing Stones can be acquired in a few different ways. Complete Vaults to earn one random Tuning Stone and seek out Wardwoven Chests to earn additional Tuning Stones-- both of which can be earned through various levels of the Season Journey. Both types also have a low chance to appear as drops when playing Vaults and Arcane Tremors. Defeating enemy Constructs within the Vaults will also grant Shattered Stone, which can be crafted into Governing and Tuning Stones at Jewelers found throughout Sanctuary.

To unlock the full power of the Stones, you will need to increase their raw power by levelling them. Collect or craft duplicates of the same Stones, fuse them together to grant experience and eventually level up your currently held Stones. Increasing the level of these stones increases the potency and ability of these attacks. Increasing the level of your Tuning Stones can add additional projectiles or augment the damage type they perform.

Once you’ve acquired your Seneschal, they’ll follow you everywhere in Sanctuary until Season of the Construct ends.

Below is a full list of the Governing and Tuning Stones available for the Seneschal Companion:

Scholars have spoken in hushed whispers concerning rumors of fabled Tuning Stones, far beyond the capable power of mere mortals. Their existence is ephemeral, never confirmed by a dignified mage of high ranking. All that is known of them is writ below:

    • Evernight: ???
    • Genesis: ???

Test yourself in Deadly New Dungeons: Vaults

While Ayuzhan slept, Malphas grew in strength, harnessing the awesome power of the Loom and corrupting the vast network of Vaults lying dormant. Originally armed to keep out any demonic influence, the various Hazards implemented now protect the forces of evil they once kept at bay.

The Vaults are specialized dungeons that house elemental Hazards devised by Zoltun Kulle and Ayuzhan themselves. Amongst the Hazards lay The Constructs, an entirely new monster family. Several elemental variants of these monsters lurk in wait for any unsuspecting wanderers to fall into their mechanical clutches.

Upon entering the Vault—after converting the required Pearls of Warding— you can be blessed by Zoltun’s Warding, a special layered blessing which grants access to riches within the Vaults. Zoltun’s Warding diminishes stack by stack if you manage to fall prey to the various Hazards scattered throughout the Vaults.

If you manage to keep Zoltun’s Warding intact after defeating the Vault Boss, you’ll unlock a Wardwoven Chest, which has a higher chance of granting Legendary items. Using Pearls of Warding can increase the risk by exchanging them for extra stacks of Zoltun’s Warding at the Vault entrance—succeed, and your reward will increase as well.

At World Tier III, Nightmare Vaults unlock. Vault Sigils will drop alongside typical Nightmare Dungeon Sigils, or they can be crafted which will require Pearls of Warding to create. These Vaults function similar to Nightmare Dungeons—however they will have deadly Constructs and Hazards scattered throughout, and the Wardwoven Chests for the savvy wanderer.

Staunch the Spread of Arcane Tremors

Malphas’ seeks to unleash deadly Constructs upon Sanctuary, pouring from the underground Vault to terrorize the innocents and sinful alike. Dismantle deadly traps, destroy Lesser and Elite Constructs to earn Shattered Stone. Dispatching Elite Constructs grants Pearls of Warding which can be used to earn higher valued rewards from replaying Vaults. Negate the Arcane Tremor by defeating the Vault’s mighty Herald Construct, securing a tenuous peace to the denizens above.

Coming Soon: Leaderboards Arrive with The Gauntlet

A new challenge arrives later in Season of the Construct. Fight through The Gauntlet, a weekly rotating fixed dungeon that will have you competing for the top spot on the leaderboards. Only the strongest will emerge to claim their place on the weekly leaderboards, the top weekly scores will earn their permanent place in the Hall of the Ancients. More details on the arrival of the Gauntlet will be available in a future blog.

Season 30: The Lords of Hell

Though the Black Soulstone has been destroyed, lingering fragments of The Lords of Hell once contained therein still persist in Sanctuary. These Soul Shards hold immense power—power that once belonged to the Prime and Lesser Evils. Cunning Nephalem who find and wield these Soul Stones must exercise caution. Power can be alluring, and the road to the Burning Hells is paved with good intentions...

Season 30 is the first to utilize our new Season theme rotation system, reintroducing The Lords of Hell theme first seen in Season 25. Players can embrace evil by infusing themselves with the essences of Hell’s Lords using Soul Shards. Players will embark on their Season Journey to discover and upgrade demonic Soul Shards based on the seven Lords of Hell. By embodying a Prime and Lesser Evil, players will inflict new forms of pain and suffering on the demons of Sanctuary. We can't wait for players to get their hands on Soul Shards to start unlocking their true power.

Nephalem can find 7 unique Soul Shards(based on the seven Lords of Hell), which give players demonic new powers. One of 3 Prime Evil Soul Shards can be equipped into Helms and one of 4 Lesser Evil Soul Shards can be equipped into Weapons. Each Soul Shard can be upgraded three times using a new seasonal-exclusive consumable, the Hellforge Ember.

Soul Shards and Hellforge Embers can drop from anywhere in Sanctuary, but Soul Shards have a higher chance to drop from Bosses. Soul Shards cannot be traded, but can be salvaged or utilized in Caldesann’s Despair. You may only equip one Prime Evil Soul Shard and one Lesser Evil Soul Shard at a time. Lastly, Soul Shards and Hellforge Embers only drop in Seasonal play, and will not transfer to your non-seasonal character when the season ends. Patch Notes

Below you’ll find patch notes for the upcoming update to Diablo III: Patch 2.7.7. It goes live on January 9.

Note: All changes apply to all versions of Diablo III, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC unless otherwise indicated.

New Permanent Features: Rites of Sanctuary and Visions of Enmity

Back by popular demand, the Rites of Sanctuary and Visions of Enmity Season themes have become a permanent fixture of Diablo III. While we are extremely excited to make these features always available, to ensure your time slaying demons remains balanced, we had to make some adjustments to the bonuses provided by the Altar of Rites. When existent alongside Visions of Enmity, continual Season themes, and adjustments to Class balance, we felt the game’s balance would benefit from adjustments to Rites of Sanctuary. • Orek's Dream encounter rate buffed from 1 to 4%.

    Class Balance Changes

Striking a middle ground between fun and balanced is our top priority when it comes to Classes. As we mentioned in our Season 29 article, going forward, a series of iconic themes from Seasons past will be reintroduced roughly every 3 months. The below Class balances changes were made to ensure each Class remains both fun and balanced as powerful Season themes return to Diablo III.

Developer’s Note: Over time, we have seen some builds gain a massive amount of power, leaving other builds behind and in need of updates. The Wizard's Meteor has dominated the battlegrounds of Sanctuary for far too long, as well as some other Sets. We believe to have found a good avenue for each build to perform in and have improved Sets across each class to work towards this goal.

Any changes made to the below between the PTR and now, and any new additions, have been marked in red.

    Barbarian

    • Might of the Earth
      • Increased the damage of Earthquake, Avalanche, Leap, Ground Stomp, Ancient Spear and Seismic Slam to 37,500% from 20,000%.
    • The Legacy of Raekor

      • Condemned enemies also trigger Condemn's explosion and the damage of Condemn is increased by 600-800%.

      • When the initial impact of your Wave of Light hits 5 or fewer enemies, previously 3, the damage is increased by 200-250%.

    Necromancer

We welcome you to the Diablo III Patch 2.7.7 PTR. From December 5–12, we’ll need your help in testing balance changes for all Classes and 2 returning Season themes that are being permanently added to the game for all modes—Rites of Sanctuary and Visions of Enmity.

Please note that this is a preview for PTR content, which is subject to change. As this is a test server, please anticipate uneven game performance, and note that restarts and downtime may occur without warning. Thank you, and we look forward to your feedback!

    PTR Focus and Details

The Patch 2.7.7 PTR will soon be under way. During this time, there may be periodic maintenances, outages, hotfixes, or minor patches. We urge you to focus your playthrough on the following:

    • Rites of Sanctuary and Visions of Enmity: Based on positive community feedback, we saw these Season themes were such a hit that we’ve decided to make them permanent. Players can harness the might from the Altar of Rites and Diabolical Fissures to dream up unique Class builds and achieve new levels of power.
    • Class Balance: To ensure that the most significant class changes receive an ample amount of attention, we'd love for you to focus testing and providing feedback on the balance changes for all Classes.
    • PTR-unique buffs will be active to help you on your journey: increased experience gains, and double Blood Shard drops. You can also buy new gear for testing from the special PTR vendor, Djank Mi'em, who will exchange Blood Shards for class-specific bags full of Legendary Items that we'd love for you to test!

So that we can efficiently review your posts, please provide feedback in the PTR Feedback forum and bug reports in the PTR Bug Report forum.

    PTR Testing Tips

As with our previous PTRs, this testing period is short, so it's best to hit the ground running. Whether you’re a PTR veteran or newcomer, we thought we’d pass along a few tips to get you started.

    • Because of the limited duration of this PTR, we ask that participants pick a particular portion of this update to focus on testing.
    • For example, if you’re primarily a Witch Doctor player, consider what changes impact the Witch Doctor specifically. What you like best, what you think may still need adjustment, and what you’d want to see in the future (even if that may be beyond the scope of this patch) are all good questions to ask yourself before submitting feedback.
    • Try to break things! Just tell us when you do so we can make sure that the patch’s launch is as smooth as possible.
    • When providing feedback, focus less on a solution and more on your experience. How did the changes make you feel? Did something seem incorrect or insufficient? Suggestions are always welcome but identifying the issues themselves is most important.

How to Participate in the PTR

To participate in the public test, you must have a Diablo III game license attached to a Battle.net account in good standing (i.e. one that hasn't been suspended or banned). In addition, you will also need to download and install the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app if you have not already done so.

Step 1: Restart the Battle.net desktop app.

Step 2: Navigate to the Diablo III tab on the left-hand menu.

Step 3: On the Diablo III screen, there is a drop-down menu right above the "Play" button (note that this may say "Install" if you do not have Diablo III currently installed). Select "PTR: Diablo III" from this drop-down menu before proceeding.

Step 4: Click Install to begin the installation process.

Your PTR account will be created automatically if you do not already have one. The PTR is available in all supported languages, and accounts from all regions are eligible to participate. For additional assistance with installing and launching the PTR, click here.

    PTR Character Copy

The option to copy your existing Diablo III characters from your live account to the PTR will be available and can be done directly through the PTR client. However, only one region per account can be copied at a time. So, if you choose to copy characters from your account in a different region, any previously copied PTR characters will be lost.

Step 1: Log into the live game and then log out.

Step 2: Log into PTR client and create a level 1 character. After you're done, return to the main character screen.

Step 3: Click on the "PTR Copy" button located in the upper right-hand corner. (The PTR Copy button will not appear in-game until you have created a new level 1 character.)

    Step 4: Select your region.

Step 5: Click "Copy." This will copy all characters on your account from the selected region.

Step 6: You will be disconnected from the PTR client.

Step 7: Log back in. Your copied characters will be available for play.

Please note that you can only copy characters from one gameplay region at a time. If you choose to copy characters from a different region, any previously copied PTR characters will be lost. In addition, you can only copy characters over to your PTR account once every 24 hours. Attempting to copy characters before this cooldown is up will result in an error.

We hope you enjoy the PTR!

Diablo IV First Expansion: Vessel of Hatred

The looming river gates of Nahantu

For the first time since Diablo II, players can return to the land of Nahantu. Vessel of Hatred, the first expansion in Diablo IV, continues from where we last left the main story. Descending deep into the jungles of Nahantu, Neyrelle struggles to control perhaps the worst possible travel companion: the Prime Evil Mephisto.

Season of Blood: Unique Malignant Rings and the Abattoir of Zir

A bloody challenge awaits in the Abattoir of Zir

Though many tried to staunch and sanitize the wounds of the plague ridden... malignance has a nature of spreading. Five Malignant Rings based on popular powers from Season of the Malignant arrive in our next update on November 7, available immediately in both Seasonal and Eternal realms. For full details on these and more details on our next update, read our Diablo IV Patch Notes.

Unique Malignant Rings for the Rogue and Sorcerer.

Unique Malignant Rings for the Barbarian, Druid, and Necromancer.

During Season of Blood, based off community feedback the Occultist will now display a preview of which potential affixes are available before your selected item is enchanted. Combined with the cost changes to enchanting items made earlier, this should help players optimize their items into the endgame.

Courageous wanderers in the Seasonal Realm can put themselves through a grueling test in the Abattoir of Zir. From December 5–January 23, after completing the final tier of the Season Journey, enter the Visceral Channel to push your Vampiric Powers to the ultimate limit with this Seasonal Event. The Abattoir of Zir is an ultimate challenge, it’s recommended to only use your best builds and Characters that are at the pinnacle of their power at Level 100. Note that all rewards earned in the Abattoir of Zir last until the end of Season of Blood.

A Chill Descends on Sanctuary with Midwinter Blight

Frigid Husks litter the Fractured Peaks as grim tributes to the Red Cloaked Horror

Savage Blightfiends aim to disrupt any cheer the denizens of Fractured Peaks have managed to scrounge for themselves. From December 5–December 21, cull the cursed fiends and stay vigilant in case you receive an untimely visit from the Red Cloaked Horror. Restore the Midwinter Square and protect festive goodtidings!

Further details for Midwinter Blight will be revealed in an upcoming article.

    Weekly Leaderboards: The Gauntlet

Arriving with our next Season in January, The Gauntlet will test your skills in the Seasonal Realm against fellow players in a set layout, non-linear Dungeon, where a potent combination of mastery and skills achieves high scores. Players will need to collect Proofs of Might to contribute to their overall score, which can be obtained from slaying Monsters and destroying items within the Gauntlet.

Weekly Leaderboards track scores between Hardcore, Normal characters, Party size, and Classes. The top players from each week’s Leaderboard will be displayed in a permanent Leaderboard called the Hall of the Ancients. With each week’s Leaderboard reset, so does the fixed layout of The Gauntlet! Refine your most trusted builds to emerge victorious.

For our first Expansion, you’ll be taken somewhere more sinister than ever before—a place where hatred’s influence continues to strangle Sanctuary into submission…

Vessel of Hatred continues the grim tale that began in Diablo IV, as you learn the fate of the prime evil Mephisto and his demonic plans for Sanctuary. To do that, you’ll be visiting a region new to Diablo IV, known by the locals as Nahantu. With this continuation of the campaign’s story comes new ways to play, new evils to vanquish, and a brand-new Class never before seen in the Diablo universe. Vessel of Hatred releases late next year, and we can’t wait to share more about it with you next summer.

In the less-distant future, the third Season of Diablo IV will usher in a whole new type of weekly challenge Dungeon called The Gauntlet, where wanderers can compete for their Class ranking against anyone in the world. At the end of each week, the combatants with the highest rank will have their name cemented in the Seasonal Hall of the Ancients for all of time.

Ever wonder what the holidays are like in Sanctuary? Well, now you can find out in our first seasonal event, Midwinter Blight, beginning on December 12 and lasting for three weeks. Trudge through the snow-laden, winter terror-land of Fractured Peaks, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a mysterious, red-cloaked terror!

Now that we’ve given you a glimpse of some of what’s to come in the future, let’s come back to the present. Starting next week, we’ll introduce 5 Unique, class-specific Rings that will let you tap into powers from Season of the Malignant.

Then on December 5, an Enchanting preview feature for the Occultist will come to Diablo IV. This will allow you to see what affixes are possible, before spending your hard-earned gold. It’s another way to give you even more control over developing just the right build for whatever Hell throws your way. Also starting on December 5 is Abattoir of Zir, a highly replayable six-week end-game event experience designed for players who have reached Level 100, slain Uber Duriel, and mastered all the other challenges Season of Blood has to offer. Those who survive will attain a Paragon Glyph constructed from Lord Zir’s very own blood. But beware—the Abattoir of Zir starts at a soul-crushing difficulty and only gets harder.

All of this is made possible by the support of our players, and most importantly, your feedback. Thanks to feedback, we’ve added an endgame boss ladder for receiving Unique and Uber Unique items at a higher rate, made the ascent to Level 100 40% faster than it was in Season of the Malignant, reworked Item Power to be more rewarding, and released a ton quality-of-life updates through our patches.

For those tuning in from home, we’ll be broadcasting a special Diablo IV Campfire Chat live from the BlizzCon show floor and multiple Diablo-partnered content creators will be livestreaming, which can also be viewed in person by attendees.

Here are many of the activities going on in the Diablo section of BlizzCon. Unless specified otherwise, these activities will be available on both Friday and Saturday of the event.

    Meet Diablo Partnered Creators

Some of the most seasoned wanderers in our community will be at BlizzCon to share their secret to culling demons, but also, to meet you! Keep an eye out for meet-and-greet opportunities with these creators:

    • Wudijo
    • AnnacakeLive
    • Rhykker
    • Darth Microtransaction
    • ActuallyArcane
    • MacroBioBoi
Watch Content Creators Slay Demons Live

Not only can you meet some prominent saviors of Sanctuary, but you can watch them paint the floor red with the viscera of felled demons live at BlizzCon. These creators will be streaming their exploits for those at home to watch as well.

Get In the Slaying Spirit with These Activities

    Hell's Ink:

Take your love for Diablo to a more permanent level by getting 1 of 13 flash tattoo designs from the talented artists at Vatican Studios. Tattoos are complimentary for all BlizzCon attendees, but appointments will be on a first come first serve basis, so sign up early in person.

    Prinker Temporary Tattoos:

For those who wish to display their devotion to the Burning Hells in a less permanent way, Prinker will be offering temporary versions of the Hell’s Ink flash tattoos. Appointments are not needed for this activity.

    Developer Signing Opportunity:

Meet some of the makers of your favorite game during our developer signing opportunity. Members of our development team will be around every hour or so in a rotating cast to meet you.

    Tarot Card Readers:

Place your fate in the hands of a professional Tarot Card reader. Will your future be as bright as the High Heavens or as frigid as the Fractured Peaks? There’s only one way to know…

Appointments are not needed for this activity.

    Wings of Inarius Photo Opportunity:

“Kneel before him! And remember you are small, wonderfully small!”

Place yourself between the animated wings of the father of Sanctuary, Inarius. This photo opportunity welcomes all to envision themselves as The Prophet.

    Sacrificial Altar Photo Opportunity:

As they say in Sanctuary, it isn’t truly a celebration without a few sacrifices. Offer your mortality to the cultists for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.

    Museum of Sanctuary:

Peruse a collection of long-forgotten artifacts dredged up from the furthest reaches of Sanctuary in this walkthrough exhibit.

    Horadric Library:

Stay awhile and browse our selection of tomes and curios. This is where attendees can purchase special Diablo merch and literature and then have it signed by dutiful scribes.

    Mountain Dew Quest:

Quench your thirst for annihilating Lilith’s legions by partaking in a Mountain Dew scavenger hunt. Attendees will need to locate cans of Mountain Dew touched by Lilith’s hatred. Find all the cans and you’ll be entered into a giveaway for an especially sinister Lilith statue.

BlizzCon Diablo IV Campfire Chat - November 4, 2:30-3:30 p.m. PDT

Join game director Joe Shely, associate game director Brent Gibson, production director Tiffany Wat, lead game producer Kayleigh Calder, and associate director of community Adam Fletcher live from BlizzCon as they talk about what’s next for Diablo IV. This Campfire Chat will also be streamed for those at home to tune in.

On the first day of BlizzCon, attendees will be able to drop questions into a box located in the Diablo section of BlizzCon—we’ll answer questions submitted to the box and sent to us via social media during the Campfire Chat.

There are 6 ominous installments in total to shock and delight. Each individual tale of this anthology delves into the unseemly and macabre; the imagined terrors that lurk before the light of another grim dawn. A lone wanderer strikes a bargain in a sleepy village, a family cautiously welcomes their newest member, a child seeks to pay respects to a lost Grandparent, and more.

As is often the case in Sanctuary—things are not what they seem to be. Read the Webtoons of Sanctuary below!
