Really, just get to ACT 2 and let your ass get raped. Act 1 is like a tutorial, not that hard. But mid/end of act 2 you will cry for mercy.

^^^ Act 2 is hard. Seriously. And to the guy above this quote who was saying it was easy, are you fighting all of the champ packs you encounter? The boss fights are not nearly as hard as the champs.

I'm not very good at video games. I was pulling 10k as a SP in level 85 WoW dungeons, suck at halo, and am the smashed bro in brawl. I gotta say I rolled through normal as a Wizard solo and I can tell you why. In the beginning of the game your most powerful attacks are all melee(ex:Frost Nova and Wave of Force). While this changes later on it places you in a melee playstyle that cannot be mimicked later on. The way to play the Wizard is the opposite of how they set you up in the beginning. You need to be agile and ready to get out of the way of the attacks, even more so the tips by Jay Wilson of teleport and Slot time are HORRIBLE for normal. In normal you don't have any of the proper runes that makes those viable. If you want to succeed as a Wizard you need to experiment as much as possible. It'll teach you what moves work with wizard and what don't. If you need inspiration just check out who got the inferno first contest on this website, a SOLO wizard. Wizard isn't bad there's just a learning curve.

Why are you talking about normal mode? No one is saying that the Wiz is underpowered in terms of normal mode. Normal mode is faceroll for every class.

I don't actually think that the Wiz is underpowered at all (Energy Armor -> Force Armor anyone?), but to tell people that a class is just fine when you have only played through the easiest, casual-aimed difficulty is preposterous. How could you possibly know? You don't even have access to half the abilities, you have faced nothing that can 1/2 shot you, you can essentially tank mobs without fear of dying with little need to kite, and you're going to tell people in Hell/Inferno that
they're complaining about nothing? Yeah, ok.

And on a side note.... 10k in cata dungeons on level 85? How is that even possible? I was doing 10k as soon as I hit 81-82 in those dungeons....

What would you say is a good build for a level 33 wizard who gets owned on Act 1 of Nightmare when there are blue packs chasing him?

At that point in NM I was using this build iirc: http://us.battle.net...SYdR!YcV!aaZZab

With that build I just destroyed everything that came at me except for molten + jailer (shield) mobs. Everything else is a walk in the park. Lay down a hydra for passive damage, start electrocuting the hell out of everything while pumping out (very strong) arcane orbs, and use wave/frost nova when needed (or wave to just clear out a ton of mobs instantly).

You *will* need energy armor later on, but for NM you really don't but for a few specific circumstances.

Some legendaries require black smithing if I am not mistaken. And what Elire said, just do that.

Except that legendaries are essentially broken and rarely if ever an upgrade, so why bother?

In Hell/Inferno you will probably just fall over and die. You need to kite... a lot.

Your friends suck lol. I'm demon hunter with 2700 dps on level 42

So finding/buying better gear makes you a better player?

Also realize that when you outlevel the content (like I am, lv. 27 at the end of Act II) you don't find great upgrades. The gear I find is required level 15 tops (lots and lots of req. level 8-12).... yet I'm 13 levels ahead of that. There is a ton of great gear on the AH that I could buy, but I just don't see the point right now as I'm still in normal mode.

Swampmonky your doing something wrong... you should look for some +dmg stuff along with int stuff.

I have explored every area fully and even bought one item off of the AH, though I have not gone back and farmed at all. I am sitting with ~250 dps on my Wiz. Not sure what more I could have done, just playing through the game.

Man I must be doin something wrong then, only have 320 dps for my WD at lv 30. :(

I'm on 27 and run with ~250dps on my Wiz. I haven't gone and bought a bunch of stuff (any really, one lv. 21 rare dagger) off the AH, but I have explored *a lot* (I am on Belial right now, Act II). I think you're fine. Remember, the OP is on 40. Big difference in gear once you start hard modes.

Looks like we're 100% in agreement: less content - by about a dozen hours - than D2 for the average player.

Wandering around an endless sea of randomly generated terrain trying to find an exit is not content.

Can a mod just close this? The guy is obviously trolling.

Someone else said it in another thread, but now every Demon Hunter for example, will have all of the same skills, but may or may not have found the different runes for different skills (you find those, right? or are they automatic after a certain level?). The only difference will be the characters damage and armor.

No, you don't find them, they are given to you at level up. Before critiquing a system you should probably at least attempt to use and understand it first (how can you possibly say you have played the game and not know this?)

finished it in 5 hours without rushing, doing side exploration & looting barrels ect

BS. I spent four hours getting through ACT I. I wasn't rushing and I explored every map. 5 hours to complete the entire game, exploring each area completely, listening to dialog, talking to NPC's, etc.? No way.

The Koreans took 6 hours and they were rushing through everything. You are just making crap up now.
