All solid suggestions. Although, like most other suggestions, they take for granted that D3 will work the exact same way as D2 did. Which is why I think mayn suggestions here won't even appear in D3, while many other great things will. They were simply overlooked because they didn't fit into D2.
Okay....then I change my mind....those are my suggestions for 1.12. :-P
1.When you hire a new merc the old mercs equipment should drop to the ground.
2.Mercs should have weapon tabs.
3. Each merc should have a list of what type of weapons they prefer.
Items:
1. it would be nice if you could customize the colors for the hovering text of dropped items. for example, changing runes to red. or some specific socketed armor/weapon type that you are looking for.
2 some sort of gem bag and rune bag. both should have auto-arrange.
I would love to see Horadric Cube recipes that open a portal to hidden areas. And not just a cow level. Actual levels that have something to do with the story line but arent necessary to complete the game. Maybe they could be runeword type things....except instead of a runeword for an item, its a runeword to a demons secret lair.
Instead of a bunch of new classes, why not make the existing classes more customizable. For example, what if there were a bunch of class generic skill trees, when you generate your character, you select one generic skill tree (this is in addition to the ones that come with your class) All generic skills could have synergies with the class specific skills. Then, maybe at certain levels, you could gain access to another generic skill tree.
This way, you could make a Barbarian tinged with a tiny bit of magic, or make a Sorcerer that can kick arse with a sword. I dont think game balance would be too much of an issue, because you still have only so many points to spend.
Item history: I think it would be kinda neat if you could click on an item in your inventory and it would tell you where you got it (ie LocationX, MonsterY)
Not earth shattering but it might be interesting when you are reminiscing. :-P

Besides....its silly that 6 gems would take up the same amount of space that a full suit of armor would. Those are some BIG gems.
