This post is pretty useless without an exp/hour number. You are currently paragon 40, which doesnt say much. Im skeptical that this is a build worth using but then again need that exp/hour number.

It's pretty common knowledge that tempest rush at mp0 is the fastest monk leveling method... xp/hr will depend on your gear. Having no number here doesn't nullify the usefulness of any of the information.

    Two questions:

    1) Is this build hc-viable in terms of survivability? I'd never let my hp get that low (50k+), but is it solid enough to avoid death if played with a little less recklessness?

    2) How bad is rubber-banding with this? It killed my p44 ww barb and I'm not keen to repeat the mistake.

I am not sure if it is just my connection, but I notice rubber-banding much more often while using a tempest rush build. It is usually the only reason I will die. If you are doing HC, i suggest getting most of your spirit regen through gear rather than sacrificing your defensive passives.

You can build a defensive TR build but it is likely going to be used mainly for getting from pack to pack rather than an infinite TR build.

Blade Storm (60%) + Submission (18%). Submission scales with Attack speed, I believe.

This is an interesting idea. It is difficult to say what is better, more damage or more range with the fire rune. I'll have to give bladestorm a try, though I lean towards the fire rune because the enemies take damage for longer as you run by.

If you drop OWE you will die constantly on MP0 if you dont have ~450 physical and fire resist. It is not worth the deaths.

I run mp0 without OWE, with about 180 res all. But I am also a fire monk with about 400 fire, so that may help more than I think. I dont really have too many issues with damage on mp0, but I also use serenity and have 160k dmg so most things that hurt die before serenity runs out.

Also, tempest rush is great for positioning yourself where you wont be hit by elite's abilities. I rarely end up taking arcane beam / desecration damage. (so great, in fact, that I can't give it up even on higher mp's. I love the mobility)

Once I get a chance to get on I'm going to try switching serenity for SSS and see how that works.

posted a message on Monk vs Barb - Have Blizz noticed how unbalanced this is?
As many have said in this thread, it is difficult to compare classes like this before they have truly been balanced (they've stated they are still working on balancing monks).

However, in the game's current state, I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't think that Barb's are the easiest / cheapest to gear up / play at high levels. They have quite a few advantages, many of which you've pointed out.

It isn't just the monk that is left behind compared to the barb; it's all classes.

I expect them to continue to make changes to the classes, specifically the monk, to adjust this imbalance.

I freely admit that I've not used MoC and Blind in the TR build and am sure that it will make all the difference in dps so that Cyclone doesn't matter. But have you explored using Cyclone and changing a passive to get you more spirit regen - like Chant of Ressonance?

I think that cyclone isn't as valuable on a TR build as it would be in a normal build, as TR has a much smaller chance to spawn cyclones. I've been experimenting with the +range fire rune, and find that it works quite nicely as well (better than cyclone imo).

I've been thinking about tempest rushing build from looking at several posts today, including this one. I was wondering if you've tried Mantra of conviction : submission.

I haven't tried it, and had never thought about it until today, but 15% damage to surrounding enemies sounds like a good idea for a TR build. I'd jump into the game and try it myself, but I'm getting a strange recursive loop of "client needs to be patched" errors.

SOJ is nice for higher mp(at least 7) and/or ubers. Just not worth for farming on lower mp

I have to disagree here; probably the best use for SoJ is mp0-1 tempest rush farming with +damage to sweeping winds and a good spirit regen. You can swap out with a good dps ring for when you cast sweeping winds initially.

-How to use the build above?: Cast Mantra of Conviction: Overawe, Buff Deadly Reach: Forsight, Cast Blind: Faith in the Light, Cast Sweeping Winds: Inner Storm to carry the buffs through the duration of Sweeping Winds

My apologies for the misunderstanding, but your sentence here is misleading. "To carry the buffs through the duration of sweeping winds"

Hence why it looks like you were advocating using overawe to buff sweeping winds.

This is quite a good guide, and I agree with most of it; but you have 1 factually incorrect statement. Mantra of Conviction overawe does not affect your Sweeping Winds snapshot damage, as it states "increases the damage nearby enemies take" rather than "increases your damage". I'm afraid I can't remember where I read that, but if you search the forums you are bound to find it.

This means that casting overawe before you use sweeping winds does nothing. (though it still adds damage while you are TPing around)

And I definitely agree that deadly reach: foresight is underrated and underused.

I find it interesting that, though you have only fire resist, you are not using OWE. How's that working out for you? I seem to struggle with resistances myself. Between that and a slightly low HP, seems like survivability might be an issue.

I see your (kick a$s) Skorn is only 1 hit per second, but you have like 31% IAS. Does that balance it out for you pretty well? I was using Inna's Reach for a while, which had more DPS on paper, but went to a Shenlong's set and ultimately did much better, because I'd hit so much faster, I didn't get hit myself.

I use OWE for higher MPs, but I am currently running an infinite tempest rush build for mp0 farming so that is why I have fire res stacked, but am not using OWE. I had a real issue with my 2her's speed until I got around 30% attack speed. That in combination with FoT gives me a respectable speed for attacking which is quite comfortable, and attack speed is even more valuable with a slow weapon, as every % gives more damage.

Admittedly I do have a survivability issue. I only have about 400 res with OWE on, so higher mps than 6 give me real trouble, which is why I need to invest in some more fire resistances on my inna's items. Luckily that is what my tank wizard is good for : )

    Tag is Mesar#1157.

You have quite a few pieces that are a bit lacking. Your amulet sticks out as one of the main ones that could use quite a bit more CC/CD/AS. I would also invest in some inna's legendaries for the set bonus. You can find lower quality ones fairly cheap nowadays that will improve your damage drastically.

You also should be getting items that have both all res and your chosen resistances, instead of just the chosen. Your rings should have at least 2 CC/CD/AS stats. If you can't afford that, try to find good average damage rings. They are underrated and cheaper.

but #1 priority at this point has to be that amulet.

    Mine : http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/SolusCoda-1302/hero/13394076

I'm saving for a good CC nat's ring with fire resistances, which should bump up my damage by ALOT. I'd also like to invest in some inna's items with fire resistances when I get the gold.

I'm glad you validated the spec! I can understand the issues with the ranged. I tried many variations of this spec that got me killed by range so I settled on teleport and ice nova as a great solution. With CM, your teleport is typically available after a pack so you can teleport to the ranged and nova them so they can't run from you.

Also, Scramble is nice for reaching ranged enemies and dodging painful things.

I've got to work my way to your kind of dps.
