Good change, and I am not just saying that because I was one of the people who thought MF/GF should not be a stat modifier on items. That being said, I don't see that as enough to keep me going long-long term. I am not even playing now, thanks Darksiders II :). I am not big on extemporaneous grind sessions and really that's all this is. Should provide fun for a little while though.

All in all 1.04 gets an 8/10 from me. My scores are official so you can tell your friends.

I think they need to rethink how they are changing firewalkers, monks will now be biased towards fire resistance because of the added molten damage, high dex (300) and gauranteed fire/elem resist.

Seems fair, though - fire resistance was worth alot more pre-1.0.3 than post 1.0.4 anyway, because barbarians would go for that resistance after filling out all resistance (or just fire resistance if they couldn't get all resi), because it's the most threatening of all elite affixes - cold dmg only has frozen, lightning has, well, lightning, but fire has molten/desec/fire chains.

Monk is my main and I wouldn't bother switching resists. As has been said fire is already a higher valued resist and trying to find all new gear is a waste of time/money. Even if I found these boots post 1.04 I would just eat the loss in resist off my current boots. Plus with the affix changes it seems very likely that the fire based affixes are going to see a pretty decent damage reduction.

As far as this blog goes, I am very impressed. It certainly seems like they are going to get Legendary items right this time. If the class blogs are half as exciting as what we have seen so far, 1.04 is going to be a success.

Game is going to get easier and easier to cater to the lazy and whiny.
No, they're making the gear grind more fun, not easier. Base damage of elites is unaffected. And that's the really hard part about them.

I would argue that affixes are the hard part and some of those are getting "tuned". (I am unofficialy starting a campaign to get rid of the word nerf.) Some of them might honestly need a little "tuning" though. It boils down to what is more fun for the player. For me, if I can dump some resist and def gear in favor of pure dps gear that is fun!

@Mutilate: Guess I'm pretty pissed today from non-Diablo shit to see playfulness, my bad. As for the break thing, I'm already doing it. I started playing 2-3h every day and gradually reduced to 1h/day on purpose to maintain interest. But I want to keep playing. I guess I was just venting by being frustrated that the game was going in a weird direction, and thus making me lose interest. Also, played my first 5v5 LoL game yesterday. Kinda meh.
I myself was an advocate of the 'take a break if you don't like the game anymore', I just never thought it would happen to me. I rotate among activities frequently to avoid losing interest in something I love doing. I just don't see how I'll fit Diablo now and that's a bummer, because if you don't see some kind of fulfillment in the future, what's the point of doing it now?

Plan now is to play sporadically and wait and see if PvP will be any good.

No worries man. Hopefully something in one of the other blogs will pique your interest and you can come on back down the road. If not, such is life. Don't let it get you down and hopefully your IRL stuff gets sorted out too.

The real irony is that you weren't being ironic and made the decision to then make another nonconstructive post that does nothing more than continue a pointless back and forth. :)

How was I not being ironic? I even exaggerated for effect and called the dude an overly attached lover based on a single comment.

Mixed reactions from the announcements as expected. Honestly, I don't know what to think anymore. Here's to hoping other areas of the game improve enough to make it worthwhile, right now I'm having a tough time trying to stay motivated to play a game I care a lot about. I've had my fair share of enjoyment and still have some occasionally, like progressing through NM on my WD trying to see how many monsters I can kill with a single Locust Swarm.

I was just making a joke. All in good sport, hopefully. If you are down on the game take a break. You know we have at least a few weeks before 1.04 and some good stuff is coming up. GW2 and also Darksiders 2 is out on Tuesday. I am fully planning to play that and will be shelving D3 for a few weeks. Not directed at you specifically but I don't get why it's so hard for people to just go do other things when whatever it is their doing is not enjoyable anymore. Obviously I am talking about recreational activities.

+1 to the WD thing. I hope they do good stuff to them because I miss my WD, but he is simply not fun to play in the current state.

Every time a patch like this comes out a few Blizzard-haters come back to the forums to tell us how retarded we are because we're playing an "easy" game. I really want to know when Diablo was ever supposed to be hard. I support a model that's more difficult than D2, of course, but even after these "nerfs" D3 will still be more difficult than D2 so I'm very much OK with that. People pining for pre-1.0.3 Inferno can just move on to PoE or whatever else they think is going to be so awesome. It'll be better off for the rest of us.

D3 was supposed to be hard, the dudes themselves promised as much when they announced the game.

As for hating, I'm questioning their decision-making and its effects on the gameplay, sorry to be so hateful towards the love of your life, overly-attached-Blizzard-lover. See? It can go both ways. Now try and keep it constructive.

For a lot of people D3 is "hard". Difficulty is so perfectly subjective and the people who post on a fan forum are probably not the target audience (ie largest business segment) that Blizzard is aiming at. I think they also realized that Inferno was never going to work out as planned. It was supposed to be this option, only for the elite players who want the best of the best and want a "challenge". As soon as a few people broke that system it quickly deteriorated. If I am going to fault them at all for anything it's that the D3 team had blinders on since other Blizz products, namely WoW, handle the casual vs 'hard-core' thing pretty well. IMO Nightmare and Hell should be tuned up and make it so Inferno is basically the "heroic" version of the content. Same drops but better stat distribution. They screwed up and now have to fix it. No matter what they do it won't please everyone and yes it sucks when the solution provided does not match the one you had in your mind.

Also, it's a tad ironic to call someone out for their nonconstructive behavior but precede it with a completely nonconstructive name calling session. These forums would be so much better if people could make it through posts without personal "critiques".

ITT: Blizz announces changes to the game based largely on customer feedback. Some people love it, some people hate it, a few people are mixed. Semantics arguments, name calling, ego bruising and patting ensue. So pretty much as expected.

For me, I like most of the patch. I can honestly say I don't agree with all the tuning in Inferno but in the long run I think it will be positive. Looking forward to other blogs now. Hopefully it won't be another week before we get the next one.

Yeah mutiplayer is a blast. I do mostly solo during the week but at least once a week a few friends and I run a full 4 man party, 2 wizards a barb and a monk, and it is so much fun. That being said I have not tested the public game waters and don't intend to. Too many years of WoW pug groups has lead me to the conclusion that it would not yield desirable results.

In D2, there was no difference in itemization or drops between offline and online play. That implications of that are part of why I say D2 trading was a player created feature rather than a game system. This is just to point out the inherent logical problem with saying "Trading has been a >>>>>huge<<<<< part of diablo since diablo 2" and then making a list of the way you "should" play.

Now, they have made statements that the existance of the AHs as a source of gear goes into their planning for base drop rates in Inferno and there is definitely a design intent to include trade. Yes, I agree D3 can't realistically be compared to D2 solo/lan even if I disagree with the design intent. I just don't feel that using D2 online trading is a valid justification for saying we should have expected that.

Actually there are Ladder only items in D2 and some of them were really really good. That was not introduced until much later in the games development cycle though. As it stands today, technically yes, the itemization is different on and offline. Obviously trading was "player created" but it's a little short sighted to dismiss it as not a part of the overall design philosophy. Regardless of how big a role Blizzard initially planned trading to be, at the end of the day it became a huge deal. It is now, and will always be a large part of their Diablo model. As has been said many times the inclusion of the AH was meant to keep trading done inside the platform.

Item color IS the quality of the item. All items are “white” with a chance to roll a different “color”. This may be the wrong order but the game does something like this when you kill an enemy.

Rolls to determine item type (sword, shield, mace, boots, bracers, etc)
Rolls to determine item quality (white, blue, yellow, orange)
Rolls to determine number of affixes
Rolls to determine stat ranges of specific affixes

In the case of legendary items I am sure there is another layer of rolls to state which specific legendary will drop. Think of MF as playing craps with different levels of loaded dice. The more you have the better your rolls are going to be and the more you will “win”. NV plays with the system in a way where you are guaranteed a specific quality roll but the other rolls are still random.

If this is wrong then someone please correct me but as far as I am aware this is how it works.

Also I think we are arguing semantics at this point specifically the literal versus developer definition of the word quality. Everyone is basically right to varying degrees.
