posted a message on Diablo II remake coming?

Diablo 2 is more than 15 years old, you cannot compare it to todays games.

When evaluating a game you have to consider that, and you have to play it as it was meant to be played.

It's not the technical aspects, but the "RPG" aspects that was way better back then.

IMO the biggest thing in Diablo2 you buildt a character through talents, synergies and the runewords.

In Diablo 3 you get all the loot fast, no character building, just swap the skills/items accordingly to fotm, then work only for paragons.

Things just feel more rewarding when you invest more decisions, time and work into getting a character where you want it.

Running Cow level, meph, pindle, baal, uber tristram, diablo(normal and uber) was all normal endgame activities, in addition to hunting runes.

The great runewords was perfectly farmable through countess and hellforges, without any botting or duping.

The items, like enigma, hoto and cta got to be "mandatory" only due to the special skills they added (teleport/BS/BO).

But the system was way more interresting as endgame content, than an endless paragon farm.

posted a message on Would this solve botting?

    They could :

1- Take an aggressive approach with the ban hammer, for all kinds of cheating. They've done this in D2.

2- Make GR keys cap at a low number i.e 5-10.

3- Cap amount of games created an hour. (tho it would be unpopular it would help against the fishing part of the problem)

Blizzard got this little piece of software called Warden* integrated with their games.

Back in 2010 another company called MDY Industries (behind WoWglider) filed a lawsuit against them in the US, on the matter of what warden actually was doing. In the end Blizzard won in court twice, and they are within all the parameters of the laws (and EULA) to scan for software that they choose.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warden_(software)

Warden (also known as Warden Client) is an anti-cheating tool integrated in many Blizzard Entertainment games. While the game is running, Warden uses operating system APIs to collect information about certain software running on the user's computer and sends it back to Blizzard servers as hash values to be compared to those of known cheating programs or simply as a yes/no response (whether a cheat was found).

Games that use Warden include Diablo II (since patch 1.11), StarCraft (since patch 1.15), StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Warcraft III (since 2009-04-14, patch 1.23), Diablo III, and World of Warcraft.

It is true that turbo hud should become standard d3 hud. The point is
that if anyone (every d3 player) used turbohub the game would be better experience for everyone.

False, this is a common subjective statement that only voices your personal opinion.
D3 do not support any modifications for a reason, regardless of UI limitations D3 has a very simple gameplay.
Wether its called addons it WoW, or cheats in Diablo3 they are all tools of convenience, their main purpose is to make certain aspects simpler.

Unlike WoW Diablo 3 does not need an enhanced UI or a number of 3.rd party apps to be good or simple enough for anyone.
It is more important to keep it restricted and equal for all to maintain some integrity around the competetive goals of leaderboards&seasons.

All the different damage multiplier types are multiplicative.

But they are all additive with multipliers of same type.

Sheet DPS = Primary stat * WeaponDMG (including +dmg from jewelry/offhand) * Crit (cc*cd %) * damage incr by Skills %* Attack Speed (some skills do not take AS into account)

Actual DPS = Sheet DPS * Weapon Skill DMG (native +XXX% weapondmg on ability * ele dmg% * other specific skill dmg% (i.e darts, EP)) * elite damage%

An easy solution would be to add all these 3.party cheat applications to Warden2.0 .

Then all offenders would be get their account flagged as cheaters.

Blizzard could then just make those accounts not eligble for leaderbord rankings, and problem would be solved.

(ofcourse banning them would have similar effect)

When someone gets a ranking amongst the top, finnishing GRxx in time, is it more likely that person is using a THUD or bot for said run?

The letter starts off by stating its from the part of the community that is competetive.

Why is the whole letter targeting botters instead of all kind of cheaters?

The ones this letter is supposed to be signed by is way more affected by another cheat, like ffs just explained pretty well.

And of some mysterious reason they do not want to draw attention to either that cheat, or cheats in general - only botters.

It would come across as much more credible if it was to target all hacks, exploits, 3.application cheats and bots.

Make Blizz live up to their post about the issue... :

The integrity of Diablo III is incredibly important to us, and we are dedicated to ensuring the game remains a safe and fun environment for everyone. If you have knowledge of a possible exploit, hack, bot, or scam, the best way to inform us is by emailing our hacks team at hacks@blizzard.com or by completing the Hacks Report web form. In your correspondence, please include any steps necessary to replicate the issue, as well as any additional details you’re able to provide. We also ask that you refrain from posting information or instructions on how to use potential exploits on the forums.

We take reports of any potential exploit, hack, bot, or scam very seriously – and while not every reported exploit we look into turns out to be a real concern, we appreciate everyone’s help in keeping us informed of possible issues as they arise.

I kinda question how "incredibly important" this is to Blizzard, their dedication to the matter, and how "very seriously" they handle reports of all of these well known exploits, hacks and bots.

Im pretty sure that all on the top of the solo leaderboards would say THUD got more impact than botting on their ranking.

Rofl at people thinking addons in WoW, and 3.party cheats in D3 is comparable.

Firstly addons is supported in WoW, 3.rd party apps is considered cheats in D3.

Maphack was bannable offence in D2, THUD delivers all the same cheat functionality and more.

Ofcourse THUD is in the same category of 3.rd party cheat applications.

(Which again is all detectable by Warden)

All the diablo games has been about the loot or gear (and slaying monsters for it).

This grind is what seperates the ARPG from MMOs (like any casual could grind mobs anywhere for the best (Mythic) gear in a MMO.)

Botting has been a problem before paragon levels and isn't tied to those directly, but the Paragon-level do give somewhat of an indication of whom may be using such cheats.

The odd part is why those who sign this want other cheats to be treated differently.

"Please punish the obvious cheaters (botters), but don't punish the other cheaters (thuddders)."

The Warden software can and should flag any who use those well known cheat programs.

And Blizzard should ban them all, there is no good reason to let some cheaters go unpunished.

"TurboHUD and bots are two different issues, and they're treated differently by Blizzard." Seriously ??

Both are cheating applications, and both impact the game in same way when they both are left untreated by Blizzard.

Public, and usually there is decently geared people around p5-600 atleast.

Mostly because I rather boost some that need it, over grouping with those who only care to play with FoTM specced setups.

(This kinda alienates most pugs in communities or channels)

Albeit I play mostly solo, and join pugs only when i want to farm some paragon levels.

The second latest season in d2, I used 4 days to farm an enigma.

Zod would take substantially longer, but not more than a month.

You farmed that or was there trading involved? ;)

Anyway, I think the rune system of D2 would be perfectly fine if it ended at something around Vex (rune 26 of 33). From memory I'd say, that was a little rarer than today's Ramalandis, which is fine for an endgame drop. The runes beyond that were way too rare. You'd maybe see one of them in a lifetime.

I farmed it without any botting or trading involved, and maybe 6-8 hours play each day farming countess and a handful hellforges. Got tons of lower midrange runes, and a lucky ist/vex every now and then to cube.
The system wasnt perfect by any means, and quite dull to farm, but it wasn't really as hard as many describe it to be. I also got lucky and got both Ber and Ohm drop from Nhitlak farming for keys. In the end I found the hunt for the perfect superior socketed items to use the runes on much more tiresome.
