its a gear check to an extent because the white clouds will start spawning so much that you have no where to really move. we did it on torment1 right after hitting 70. i was the only one with "ok" dps. even still, we wiped 2-3 times and then got it down. i imagine with gear the fight is a complete joke, as most of the mechanics didnt even 1 shot me on my relatively fresh 70 wizard.Quote from paiway
I only died once to Malthael, went in unspoiled on Master after hitting 70 right before panda fortress. I died because I didn't notice how the wing fire thing is aimed. Second try was a smooth kill. It's mostly just an execution check, gear is not incredibly important.
Highly recommend having a movement skill like Teleport for the fight.
*what i mean by "ok" dps is that i had like 4x anyone else's dps in my group because i found a very good rare weapon early, ~2160 dps with int %damage and socket. having 3 people that didnt pull their share of damage made it kind of rough. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Another alternative you can try to spend arcane power if it really bothers you that much is Wave of Force: Heat Wave. This ability scales even better with APOC and resource cost reduction. While the Meteor: Molten Impact route benefits a good bit from CDR.

I've done a good bit of game play with the Shard of Hate on a wizard and I feel like its an "OK" weapon to have, its very good for low torment farming in a lightning build, Electrocute - Arc Lightning. If you get right up into melee range and all the procs hit the same target(s), its an insane amount of damage. But this comes at the cost of not having an amazing lightning dump if you go full on % lightning stack on your gear. I feel like an Azurewrath with at least 18% or higher cold damage heavily outweighs Shard of Hate, for a Frozen Orb build. As Jaetch said, the cold proc is good damage but a ridiculously small hit box. The lightning proc is ok, but you have to be right in the middle of everything to get good use out of it.
TL;DR:
Use whatever weapon gives you the most damage for your build, don't use this on a Wizard for the proc alone, you can't utilize it all that well. Not like a Barbarian or Monk can.
On a positive note, I can put my Int Shard of Hate on my Barb alt as an ok off-hand lol.
