posted a message on so, farm paragon for 3 months now ?
    Quote from Nachten»

    Well yes thats true,
but why do the guys play solo? I mean its that easy to reach high paragon within a group. Diablo3 is not mentioned for 100% solo play in my opinion. If you don't have a decend clan, there is always the possibility of several ingame communitys where you can find good players to compete with.
Well the people who play in groups are already starting threads saying things like "everyone has 99% perfect gear already, i guess all that's left to do is farm paragon for 3 months straight .." :-)
imho the balance of the game is so completely and utterly broken that the only way to enjoy it is to play 100% solo. Group play just ruins it, unless you do want to just play for a few days every season and then take a break until the next one.

Unless you genuinely believe you are in the top 0.1% in the world - in skill, dedication and playtime - then just treat the leaderboards as a curiosity, nothing more.

I do wish people would learn to read and not jump to conclusions. Not anywhere did I say I did not like the game, to be honest I love many of the changes that have been made.

"I cant help but feel that Vanilla was bad and left a bad taste in your mouth, but this seems worse. "
Sure sounded like someone who didn't like the game.

    Quote from Romonaga»
I prefer solo play myself, I like being in control of what I do and where I go in the game. However, I noticed very quickly that if I wanted to compete in this game I had ZERO options but play with others, this was because the single player leaderboards were filled with people who were multiplayers that did single player Rift runs, thus polluting the single player boards.

Now to be honest, I have ZERO expectation of ever being on a leaderboard, seeing that the leaderboard is nothing but a display of people who have nothing better to do with time but play. While I would love that opportunity in life, I simply do not have it. As a result I simply understand that I am the casual player.

However, I understand what people who prefer to play single player are feeling. The field is not level, multiplayer people polluting the single player boards is silly and a poor choice on blizzards part.

I too am a person who prefers to play solo. I have barely spent any time in multiplayer games since D3 launched .. a few games with friends, and a few public games which are what led me to conclude that I prefer solo. Not because the people in them were bad or anything, but I just prefer doing my own thing at my own pace to rushrushrush.

Anyway, I think that right now, you have to basically consider solo D3 and multiplayer D3 to be two completely different games. I think the difference between solo D3 and group D3 is much larger than the difference between Softcore and Hardcore, for instance. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that you can progress your characters between 10x and 100x faster grouping than you can solo. I have friends who are already in Season 4 more advanced (better gears, higher paragon levels) than my best

    non-Season characters.

So the only way to enjoy solo, imho, is to keep that mindset, and not even compare yourself to other players. This means some parts of the game are less meaningful - for instance, the addition of T7 - T10 to the game means nothing to me because I can't handle T6 even. That's OK, as long as the solo game is still an enjoyable game - and for me, it is!

Luckily for me, I don't care about leaderboards at all. Even if, as you proposed, the single-player leaderboard only counted people who had never grouped, I still wouldn't have any chance of getting anywhere near it, because there would be far more than enough players who play 5x the hours I do who would completely thrash me.

I do understand, though, that if you genuinely care about the competitive aspect, D3 does not currently provide that at all for solo players. That's a shame, and it would be nice if players like yourself were able to enjoy that competitive action.

posted a message on Is there any advantage to playing HC?

I've always played both HC and SC. The two modes have rival pulls on me : in Hardcore, there is of course the ever-present sense of excitement and danger, you can never allow yourself to fall into the pattern of mindless grinding and farming. But on the flip-side, one of the things that I have always found iconic in Diablo is hurling yourself headlong into an enormous crowd of enemies, with no regard for danger, and Hardcore really discourages that playstyle. :-) So I love normal / "Softcore" mode for sheer visceral action, and I love Hardcore mode for tension and excitement.

And it would be a really bad idea for them to give different rewards.

This isn't a D3 v POE thread. I just chose POE as an example, because they are a successful ARPG that does things in contrast to D3.
Thanks for contrasting them. Based on your description, I definitely prefer the D3 approach. Giving in-game incentives to play HC is a horrible idea, imho. Hardcore should be aimed at people who want the different mindset and different playstyle. I'd hate to think of someone who didn't want to play that way feeling that they "should" do so for better rewards.

You see, people will say this, that it is all RNG, but what if RNG was assigned the the creation, not just the dungeon spawn?

Both a friend of mine and myself tested this out, we each created 9 test toons, running them to 70, same class, same names, same everything. What we found interesting is that at level 70, every 3rd toon that we created seemed to gear exponentially faster. Is it chance? Maybe, or it is some sort of hidden formula in the game, who really knows to be honest besides the crew themselves.

It is random, and we have a thread for the tinfoil hat theories:

If you've got multiples of the same class and gender, all you can do is pick the one whose name you like better and delete the rest. There is literally no other difference between characters.

Internet connection is crucial too here. And you might have 99999 MB download speed but only 2 mb upload, then you wonder why your games stutter.
This is something that most internet providers tend to omit in the contract , they buff up the DLD speed to impressive numbers , but your upload is shiet.

Try some net speed testing sites and check out your upload speed too.

Not to mention that it doesn't matter how fast your internet connection is, if it's not perfectly stable. Get a little packet loss and you're going to get a skip or a jitter, even if the packets that don't get lost are flying up and down at 99999 MB per second.

posted a message on Here's your so called "Cow Level"

Getting a little worried that I'm not going to see this before the event ends. :-( I don't have an enormous amount of playtime, but I spent my free time on the weekend running bounties and no portal. I'll probably have less opportunity to play for the rest of the event than I've already spent.

Any tips on maximizing my chances (beyond just "doing bounties")?

What I do mind is going into a t6 or GR game and having a(n) <plv100 in yellows and half gem slots empty join in and I have to wait 5 minutes to kick them in hopes that another one doesn't immediately join. I compare this guy to the dickheads who cut in line who honestly don't understand why everyone hates them.

Thing is, whenever I've asked on the forums "hey, you say I should be fully geared in full set + ideal weapon + jewelery within a day of season starting, why does it take me months?" the answer is that running T6 rifts in 2 minutes each for one day will get you the gear. That's a pretty strong encouragement for lowly people to jump in T6 and leech.

Never done it myself.. which is probably why I'm still crap geared (can cruise T4 solo.. T5 is possible but very inefficient). But at least I'm doing it without annoying anyone.

Ask someone to powerlevel you in public chat. Depending on clearing speed it's ~10 min till lvl 70.

Horrible, horrible advice for someone who just bought the game yesterday and is on their first playthrough.
    Quote from Autocthon»

If your goal is efficiency and climbing the leaderboards you'll be playing those correct builds. They're correct for a reason.

99% of those "correct" builds are entirely built around gear sets that a new player will take a year to accumulate, though.
It will take 1-2 days to fully gear your new character. Or even faster if you play more than 4h/day. Not perfect stats on gear ofc but after 1st day of season 3 I was doing solo GR40+.

With how many hundreds (thousands?) of hours of pre-season-3 experience?

And how much of that 4-8 hours was spent farming in a group with three other similarly experienced vets?

I'm going to call colossal quantities of bullshit on any suggestion that a brand new player can have the full set + other key gear pieces for a "top" build and be smashing 40+ GRifts a day after hitting level 70.

Given that it's an article of faith on these forums that you can get 100% geared in everything you want within 12 hours or so, I'm not sure why it needs to be faster.

Unless.. of course.. people are wildly exaggerating how quickly they geared up?
