    Quote from yrrildur

Why don't people actually put a bit of effort instead of "wanting more crafting" "want this want that", actually play the game and items will come. Just last year i had to start fresh on EU, no gold, no characters (and no crafting). Now, para 92 HC WD and did everything myself. Put the time in and you get the rewards.

Players are just so lazy these days, always want something for nothing, farm like the game is intended, buy some cheap budget gear (from memory, i geared my WD to farm act 3 inferno with a budget of 2mil - which you get from lvl'n to 60 and selling the rares along the way) and actually play the game. Sure you won't 1 shot everything with budget gear, but mp0 is where you are meant to start at. Not craft everyslot and start at mp2 or higher.

    Lazy fucks.

    Quote from Dwello

Less crafting, more farming. This isn't WoW. You need to invest time.

The amount of nerfs they put in this game since release makes inferno a farm fest with the most budget of gear.

You don't need more BoA crafted crap, just play the game, items will drop.

    Thanks.

I do not understand this aversion against crafting or 'other ways than farming' to play the game.

I consider it a strong point in a game when the things you do are not monotonous. For Diablo I like it when a 60 minutes play session is build up from 45 minutes of efficient grinding items and essences, 5 minutes of checking the AH and 10 minutes of identifying and crafting. The diverseness feels rewarding because I really have stuff on my agenda I want to do.

By having more-than-one ways in the game to acquire interesting items or progress, I do not see how this is not adding to the depth of gameplay and hence replayability of the game.

Diverseness has always been a key component in my favourite games with good replayability. Like the different stages in battle in a good RTS game, like the different parts of a brilliant FPS map with varying gameplay, like the diverse corners you have to learn in a top notch race game.

posted a message on Improve Crafting - All recipes ilvl63 and BoA
Personally I love the crafting aspect of the game. And through my first playthrough and a few hundred hours of endgame content, I was very dissapointed.

But with the introduction of the new ilvl63 recipes and the BoA concept, it has become a beloved activity with rewarding results. I mustn't forget to mention the harving of Demonic Essences here, because they play a big part in the rewarding aspect. Because also the Demonic Essences are BoA, you really have to play for it, and subsequently picking up Demonic Essences feels rewarding too.

The upcoming improvement where all legendaries of the game can drop on ilvl63 in inferno fixes this problem for all those <ilvl62 legendaries which had little to no use. It adds a great amount of new variables to the item-game.

I believe that this could also work for upgrading all recipes in the game to ilvl63, and have them BoA. It is a shame that so many recipes with interesting items were created for so little usage. By the BoA system, the economy is protected (the market will not be flooded with zillions of great crafts from a very potent recipe), and players have the chance to craft interesting sets and items with a good chance on usable items. Rolling a BiS item is still a tough numbers game, so it won't be too easy. Combining this with BoA neccessity for essences or crafting materials (so that farming is required to craft) could make it even stronger in re-playability (farming essences definitely beats buying 100k of essences in the AH).

It could be even more interesting by allowing all existing legendaries to also drop 'their recipe'. I think it would be a great endgame to aquire a Mempo recipe, and keep crafting till that BiS version.

Also good to mention: Great money sink.

    Thanks for reading. Discuss

People that post to a messageboard are trying to make a point that will be heard. Often a dramatic tone is used to amplify it's impact.

I think that the people who have designed and programmed a quality piece of complicated software like Diablo 3, are smart enough to filter out these dramatic tones and efficiently translate them into input for a review on game design and mechanics.

posted a message on Theorycrafting on...crafting.
The way I see it, is that the new crafting recipes can be seen as "Crafting 2.0". This makes the old crafting system "Crafting 1.0" obsolete more or less. But since it is already in the game, they cannot remove it and leave it in place. "Crafting 1.0" really has no use anymore at the moment when compare to "Crafting 2.0", because the rolls are much, much better and also ilvl63.

I'm very happy that they introduced "Crafting 2.0", because I love crafting. But I must admit that it feels a little bit overpowered since I have crafted three upgrades for myself (gloves, shoulders, bracers) with only about 50 tries. These upgrades are now replacing gear slots that were worth tens of millions!! And it seems that "a lot" of people are easily upgrading their expensive gloves and Vile Wards but also amulets.

Just imaging that we had this "Crafting 2.0" back in May/June when the game was just released. You could easily craft items that you would consider godly when compared to the expensive items back then!

I don't think that they will change anything from the old "Crafting 1.0" system. and I don't understand why they buffed the drop of crafting recipes with 400%, because now they recipes costs have gone down untill almost nothing. The legendary recipes are still legendary (and hard to find) and are still giving you plans for completely useless items compared to the "Legendary 2.0" items and the "Crafting 2.0" items.

In the end I think the designers finally made crafting worthwile and a cool and good component of the game, the account bound type is a great solution to allow good rolls, but the downside is that items that were costing hundreds of millions 2 week back, will soon drop to a fraction of that prices (especially shoulders, gloves, amulets).

Personally I think they added 1 or 2 items too much in the "Crafting 2.0" system.

I don't see how Diablo 3 is a multiplayer game. Yes you can play coop, but its not very different from the button smashing I do when I play alone. I'm sorry if you cannot enjoy the game anymore because of your thoughts about it.

posted a message on Diablo 3 is fun again - why?
For the last days Diablo 3 was definitely fun for me again.

I think that the way they overhauled crafting (basically that is what they did - but it looks awkward because the left the 'old' crafting system in place) was done very good. Finally it really makes sense to craft, and the BoA system enables players to craft something valuable without destroying the AH with too many good craft (and the AH would be overflooded because crafting reasonable stats isnt that difficult).

I have a great new goal now in finding demonic essences. The droprate is good, not too much, not too little.

I also improved my farming fun by the decision to only pick up jewelry and legendaries. It saves so much time in my farming path, and I'm finally relieved from the endless identification of useless items. Because I optimized my farming route on speed, the game is now about efficiency and map knowlegde. I love how I clear large amounts of mobs in mere seconds. The excellent animations make it very entertaining to watch.

Of course, eventually, I will be bored by the farming again, but I also think that is quite normal for a game that is non-competitive (in comparison to person2person games like StarCraft or SupCom). The competitive element in Diablo 3 is the godly-item hunt, and the current system around it (AH, DiabloProgress, DiabloStats, Armory) is very well providing in that.

And last word: Some months ago somebody wrote: "I love Blizzard games, but I'll wait untill Diablo 3 v1.1 hits before I start playing. History hast taught me that this will provide the best game experience in Blizzard games".
He couldn't be more right, because if I would had started with the game at this very moment, it would had felt much more complete than back in May 2012.

When Diablo 4 hits, I will be definitely waiting for v1.1 before I buy the game :)

posted a message on Becoming a Billionaire in D3
    Quote from bruteMax

    Quote from GoedeWiet

Well, becoming a billionaire in D3 is rather easy, as long as you have enought time to spend on the AH.

After trying several things, I think the next tactic is the most easy:

    1. Select All Armors (for example)
    2. Set a suitable buyout (10m, 50m, 100m)
    3. Set level to 60
    4. Set type to legendary
    5. Sort the table on freshness (so 1d12h on top)
    6. Hit ENTER
    7. Scan the top items that have just entered the AH system
    8. Spot the items that are underpriced heavily
    9. Buy them within seconds, but be aware for AH bots that buyout the more obvious snipes (mempo with socket and CHC for example), the less obvious snipes will be sniped less quickly by bots

    10. Resell your snipes for about 75% of their market price - this way they almost sell instantly
    11. Repeat step 6 to 10 untill your eyes hurt or untill your bank accounts hits zero

Your point #8 assumes a lot, and point 9 is irrelevant - how is one supposed to be aware of a bot? The AH is not a fps. If a good deal is nabbed by someone before you, you won't see it listed. Simple.

Point 8 assumes that the player knows his trade. So he should be able to recognize underprized items.
Point 9 is relevant because the player should realize that multiple bots are scanning popular items with certain affixes on certain price thresholds. The bots normally work with 5 to 30 second refresh intervals. This knowledge should make the player realize that when he spots a zunimassa pox with CHC for under 10m, that there is no time to check other affixes or items because the item will be sniped within seconds.

posted a message on Diablo 3's shortcomings - Itemized with details
Introduction: I'm a 30 year old engineer who used to be a hardcore gamer (RTS/FPS/PC/PLAYSTATION), but since some years it has become more casual (10-15 hours a week) because of busy life and busy job. Note: I have never played D1 or D2, but as I said before, I've always been a hardcore gamer so I know what makes a game great or bad.

    1. The items are boring and uninteresting
    >> I dont get this complaint. I have been playing since the release, and I'm still changing my build from time to time because I learn of new interesting items that have good value / DPS balance, or learning of interesting sets with their bonusses. By now I'm getting the feeling that I have seen almost all items and investigated them, and currently I'm searching for those few BiS items with great rolls, but hey, I have been playing the freaking game for 9 months (and I'm also the kind of guy that reads lots of forums)!! I guess that when you play this game 8 hours a day, you have seen it all after 3 months, but I dont have that problem as a casual player. I also have to add to this that I only played wizard, so there is still a whole lot to learn about items from other classes! I also dont get why the item's are 'boring': Their names are distinct and the artwork is great and recognizable. What's boring about that? What should be different to make it not boring?

    2. No character investment
    >> I have spended 75% of my free gametime on paragon leveling my character to paragon level 50. I think that is enough investment for me. It took me a long time (as a casual player), and I'm happy with the result. I also hope that i will not lose this investment in the expansion.

    3. No social system
    >> I have never ever played a game with a 'good social system'. The social system I prefer is the one I create myself by playing with friends, or playing with people you contact on forums (for example I needed some help to get my hellfire ring so I contacted someone on the official forums). Thats enough for me, I don't need strangers in my game.
    >> I do think that the current public implementation is poor because you have no control over which game you joing (type of game or goal of game).

    4. All game aspects have been simplified/streamlined/removed
It took me a long enough to truly understand ALL the mechanics of this game. And over the first 100 hours I experimented A LOT with different builds and runes. I had a lot of fun with that. I do understand that it is difficult if developers remove complexity that was adding fun to the game (I have experienced that myself with the transition from Supreme Commander 1 --> Supreme Commander 2). But I have to add, that for me as being new to Diablo, I think Diablo 3 is game with enough complexity to keep it interesting for at least 200 hours of gameplay. And thats still better than 90% of the games out there.

    5. The story is terrible and is shoved down your throat.
    >> Almost ALL stories in ALL computer games I have played were BAD. There was only 1 game where I liked the story, and that was in Max Payne 1. Except from that, they always suck more or less. Zelda is fun, but it is childish. Dune II is epic, but it is badly ripped from the original story from Frank Herbert. Diablo 3 is nothing special, but so isnt the rest of the games out there. For me its always about playing the game, and not about the great story.
    >> btw, the game lets you turm almost everything off (leah talkin / chatting etc)

    6. The world is not random or open enough
    >> I think the implemented randomness is nice, but could have been more sophisticated with greater randomness. Currenctly the randomness is just too subtle, but it still works.
    >> I have to add to this: personally I always love the fact that after a while you get to know the game. In FPS games its always a strong point when you improve skills because of map knowledge. In Diablo 3 I like how my speedfarming improved by knowing all the shortcuts on the maps where I can teleport my wizard through and gain some time-advantage :)

    7. The AH makes the item hunt feel pointless and boring
    >> To my opnion, Diablo 3 = AH. Personally I love it. I always loved trade games, and I always loved action games. Diablo 3 is finally an attempt to marry those two concepts together. The AH has realistic macro-economy behavior, and that is great.
    >> But, I do think that Blizzard really really really really missed a chance by leaving out a game option where you can play without the AH. They should have had removed the AH from the Hardcore game option. I would have definitely tried that out if it was implemented.
    >> The AH just make Diablo 3 a whole other game. I think that Diablo 3 is great to play with the AH and I think that Diablo 3 is great to play without the AH. Unfortunately Blizzard did not gave us any choice. That sucks.

    8. The world is not as dark/gothic/mysterious
    >> The artwork is good. Maybe it could have been darker, but I would never classify the Diablo 3 artwork as childish or teletubby. I think their creative lead did a good job, and complaining about it feels a bit unfair.

    9. The music is basically non-existant
    >> I ALWAYS turn music off in games. Even when it is great music (Red Alert II for example). The main reason for this is that I'm almost always talking to other people on skype/mumble.

    10. The level cap
    >> Reaching paragon 100 takes an awfull long time. I do not see how this is broken. Also the reward for paragon is significant.

    11. The drop rates are terribly out of whack breaking the slot machine effect
    >> Diablo 3 is all about the AH. Unfortunately this means that only 0.1% of your drops have some value. I do think they did something wrong here, because I cant even remember the last time I identified a yellow rare that was worth more than 1m. They should have compensated this by making items or salvaging materials more usable.
    >> Regarding the legendaries: They drop often enough, en 1 out of every 10 legendaries yields 1m to 10m, and 1 out of every 25 legendaries yields more than 10m. I think these numbers are fine as they are. I'm still happy when a legendary drops, but I know that will only find a few in my whole Diablo 3 career that are truly special. And that's fine, otherwise this game wouldn't had last 9 months as a casual player

It is of course more easy to use a bot for this, but since that is illegal and involves no skill, I wouldnt recommend it.

I don't see any reason why any intelligent could't make 1b dollar within a week when enough time is available.
I myself only play a few hours per week, and if I apply this tactic for 2 hours I always see my money go from around 10m to 150m (and after that I spend it all as usual).

But, the above tactic is too intensive for me, it works but its making you braindead. Its the same as playing CM wizard. Its fun for a short time, but the bashing of the buttons is just not relaxing.
