That's the thing though, they also made sure to mention they want harder enemies to give more experience towards the Grift. So while the RG might be easier, I think going after elite packs will be very rewarding, even in hithere GRs, meaning elite damage will be awesome.
Am sure they will, but you can kite elites while doing damage to other things at the same time in most builds, kiting a Rift Guardian doesn't achieve the same as you are only fighting it.
We’ve also made changes that create a better balance between the time
you spend exploring and clearing Nephalem or Greater Rifts, and the time
you spend facing the Rift Guardian. With these changes, more of the
emphasis will be on your journey as you explore and clear the Rift
They also said normal mobs are more meaningful and meaty now, so one would assume we would be fighting more normals than before making Damage to Elites less of a deal overall(would assume having around 30-50% is still good though)
It's an alternative for Firebird's.. Will probably be better at easier content and groups, but when you get to high GR's the dot of the Firebird's is still way superior to this.
Though it's all still in development and there will be more items that might make Firebird's less of a requirement for those high GR's. Not that am complaining, this seems pretty sweet at least at first glance.
That is entirely dependent on the raw damage of the skills it supports, and any changes made to them.
If enemies require actual time to kill there's a good chance that the the new set could outperform firebird's purely because of the raw damage of the supported skills.
And that is my hope, just the uptime we are going to get on high GR levels would mean that the set has to be a lot better damage wise than Firebird's. And atm it's looking to be somewhat comparable.
Yes, it was sort of a lackluster, cause most of us probably waited on some more concrete info on what is happening in 2.2 and onward. But at the same time we sort of expected D3 not to get so much focus after we saw the schedule.

Yes double unity without the relic can backfire with melee mobs while you are kiting. Unity trick is not really needed until ~GR level 35.
Other than that getting Firebirds ain't too hard nowdays, it's just down to RNG of items dropping or not. Kadala also helps a lot with it. So just do the thing that is the most efficient to you. There was some evidence of GR's resulting in more legendaries overall, but that was only 20 runs and didn't include trial times. In anycase, best advice I can give you is that play in a 4 man group in either GR's or normal rifts based on your preference. You will get the 6 piece eventually. And yes on what GR should be done, it's based on how efficiently you can clear em(around 5-7 minutes tops).. when you start getting to the 10+ minutes ones, your legendary amount goes way down.
And that Sun Keeper is inferior to the Furnace. Just getting a Sun Keeper is 10(just a number I threw, though near to the real number) times more likely. It comes down to if you want to risk it to not get anything good from Kadala for a long long time, as even if you get a Sun Keeper, chances are it's a bad 1. Would really expect you to go through at least 5 until you get a really good 1(7-10% damage and ability to roll the damage range or near max damage roll).
In the end it comes down to luck. You might use 750 shards on 2 handers and somehow you are the luckiest guy on earth and get a furnace, but the odds are against it by a landslide. In fact I think there was some spreadsheet that the average it would take to get a Furnace was 180k shards which translates to roughly 1,6k T6 rift runs.. Yes it would take a while. Chances are you find multiple by the time you get 1 from Kadala, but that is sort of the story for most weapons, on Armor it's a bit different as you can specify which slot you want, which decreases the pool of possibilities a lot, for example there are 20 different Gloves you can get from Kadala, but only 7 of those are Wizard drops. So getting something like FB gloves is really common from Kadala.
Long story short weapons are really really RNG to roll for as the pool you are trying to get the item from is every usable 1 or 2 hander for you class and that's only if it's smartloot(I think it applies to Kadala as well)
~GR30 is where other elements are capped atm. After that you just run out of substained damage as you really need to start dodging and kiting. Some hydra based spec might work for a bit higher, but yeah few more levels even 100% maxed uptime on damage ain't enough.. other specs need "Firebird like" set as well to make them work higher, maybe there is a change coming to firebird to make it work for all elements, but for now Fire is the king.
Besides, your sparker is better than it already (remember, you lose 20% fire damage when you switch out your firebird orb).
Damage wise Crushbane is better by quite some margin(remember it's firebirds we are talking about here), what makes sparker pull ahead though is the double hydra. And yes am counting 10% crit and 20% fire damage.

T8 was like 15 seconds few hours ago.. Seasons ending seemed to make people stop playing.

Magic find doesn't affect how many items drop though, so if they keep this.. I know where I'm going to get my crafting mats

Pretty much this. From what they said, one could take that Rift Guardians will have much less role in rifts.
They specifically said, rifts should be more about exploration.
