2.3 Updates are on the way for this popular build from 2.2 (season 3)
I am in the process of rebuilding a crusader, in the mean-time this is updated to the theory of what my first setup for fire bash would be if I was to build one.
5th passive = Finery
Here are some things you should know about this build and tips to improving your performance.
- ROLL Shield Bash Damage % on Helm + Boots + Shield!
- This build is all about learning to position yourself effectively.
- Molten's Wildebeest is a core gem in this setup, the regen and shield allow you to heal yourself to recover after taking damage and gives you an additional boost of immediate toughness when engaging a new enemy.
- Using the mechanics of the Molten Wildebeest into your gameplay is key to pushing higher grifts.
- Use shieldbash as both your main damage source but also as your mobility skill, you must maneuver with shield-bash and try to keep yourself from getting surrounded at all times.
- Key to maxing your damage output is lining targets up in a straight line beyond your initial strike, because of the way the fire rune hits and of how the bracers work, the ideal situation is always to be hitting 3 or less enemies with initial attack and then as many enemies as possible with the aoe effect that shoots behind the initial target with the fire rune.
- Focus and Restraint is required if your looking to push into top tiers, if not any rings are okay. If your not using Focus and Restraint you do not need to run a generator and can take provoke(hit-me) instead.
- Hellfire Amulet = Best, Stand Your Ground>Holy Cause are ideal 5th passives but a defensive passive is okay too.
- Furnace is the best weapon no doubt, but pretty much anything is okay to be functioning.
- This is not a CDR heavy setup, CDR is only recommended on both rings + shoulders + paragon + gem in helm
Extra Notes for HardCore
- Swap out F+R for Unity+Soj
- Swap Law of Valor /w Law of Justice(immoval object)
- Swap Punish /w Provoke(Hit-me)
- Rest is same
Manner, what do you think about this Ashbringer for this?

I really enjoy this build
ok so my only thing here is this why is angel hair bettr then string of eyes i get that punish gets all the runes but i mean it seams with a bit more tankyness this bulid pushes farther i also notice that u do a lot of barb and dont get me worng i know ur a good sader but i mean i cant help but wonder if ur kinda phoning it in thanks
What gems would you run with this? Chest and pants strength and Helm CDR? or Life% or more Str?
I'm using Blood Brother now and it's a great alternative to the Furnance/Maximus. Definitely increases survivability in higher rifts and if you combine that with Provoke (Hit Me), you basically got at least 75+% block chance. Just wielding the sword gives me 44% block chance and Prvoke adds another 50% for 4 seconds. It'll give you that dmg mitigation and an additional 30% dmg to compensate for the Furnace/Maximus bonus dmg stats it doesn't have.
I'm currently using this build on my Crusader; great build, tbh.
I realize that Angle Hair Braid is mandatory to gain the effect of every rune for Punish. Is it not viable, though, to use Provoke for a generator as well (Would this proc F&R? - Haven't tried this yet... I'll try once I'm done posting). Edit: Nope. Provoke does not proc F&R.
Someone previously mentioned the use of Ashbringer, as well; I'm personally using an Ancient version and it does amazing. Though I would bet an Ancient Furnace would be better, overall, for obvious reasons.
The main reason I decided to post is because an Ancient Hellcat Waistguard just dropped with significant increases over my current AHB. Perhaps it's permissible to alter the build based on equipped gear.
Anyway... rambling some thoughts away. - Still a great build and by far I love my Crusader the most.
Yes. With average weapon and brazers, event the rift boss is killed in less than 10 seconds...
so, strength over movement speed in paragon points?
Hello Mannercookie,
First of all a big thanks for creating such awesome builds and videos.
I am using this guide for my hardcore crusader and I have difficulties to keep up with barbs in t6 rifts and in grifts.
Though grifts are better for me to keep up.
Do you have any tips regarding this issue because at the moment I have basicly nothing to kill in rifts when I have barbs in the party wirlwinding through the lvl with lightning speed.
Cheers
I am not an expert (only 47 GR atm) and I never play in party, but in my case I only have a crappy Furnace, so in GRs I jump from elite group to elite group just skipping most of the white mobs.
For that, I change Focus+Restraint for Unity+Convention of Elements, and Punish, for Provoke.
Maybe you can use Steed Charge...
The animation of the Shield Bash helps to move quickly across the screen if you attack a mob that is far away too...
Hope it helps...
(sorry for my English)
Um...
Both "Iron Skin" and "Shield Glare" are defensive skills, you cannot use a defensive skill in your utility section. This build is impossible.
You have to choose between Provoke, Steed Charge, Condemn, or Phalanx.
Granted I'm only playing on hard (just got the game a few days ago), but a good combo I've been using is
-Laws of Valor with Unstoppable force to reduce Wrath
-Condemn with vacuum to draw in the mob
-then Falling Sword or Bombardment for the massive AoE burst (with rune of choice) seems to work well.
I
assume on T6 that wouldn't work though, gathering that you'd probably
need more CC than anything else, but if they're all elites, then CC
wouldn't work. IDK. Dont have a character that is at that point yet. XD
i personally prefer Consecration instead of Punish when running Unity/CoE since it doesn't have a 'cast animation', a lot more fluent (the main downside is that it's placed where you stand instead of at a targeted location)
good guide regardless
@AndurilWielder
There is an option to allow you to put skills in (almost) any slot you like. The only restrictions then have, I think, something to do with primary skills, but I assure you this build is completely valid as it's written.
On another note, I'm still curious as to which gems to put into my chest/legs. Should they be strength or all resist? Or if I should base it on how much AR I have, then what's a good number for solo'ing 45-50 grifts? I have been soloing 45's at around 850~ AR + Esoteric Alteration (rank 45), is that too low to push higher? Or should I play better and drop AR gems for more strength? I don't have a Furnace.
What can we use legedary gems in non-season
Thanks for the build! Playing with the previous version and I'm soloing lvl 40 grifts! Now I'm off to update to the current iteration. This build rocks!
Wouldn't Cindercoat be a good cube item for this build? The Shield Bash rune used is fire.
still waiting for the update
Dude hasn't logged on in like a month. Probably not happening.
