i don't think that's a pentagram uderneath to me it looks more like octagram
edit: actually it's not an octagram either more like some map of the sky and middle actually doesn't look like it's an eye if you zoom in
edit2: this is what i got when i connected all ''dots''
Quite interesting, I never paid that much attention to the stuff underneath the logo. It does appear to be a astronomical map of some kind. Maybe has something to do with the quest of act 1?
The quest of act 1 the NPC's say a STAR actually falls into the Tristram Cathedral (not a meteor/meteorite as previously thought). I see a pattern here.
[edit] Actually, now that I look at it more, it honestly looks like a diagram of a solar system with the little circles being planets, and the big circles being the orbits of the planets. And then there are those lines connecting the planets together to form a map or sequence...
and if i can read it right here it sais 1316.IV (think that IV stands for roman number 4)
and if i'm not wrong here it sais ''SYSTEM''
There's no doubt in my mind now that this is a diagram of a solar system... If you google solar system diagram it looks just like it. Also something else I noticed:
Green arrow is the planet, red arrow is the rings of the planet.
I wish we could remove the "diablo III" and the decorative swirls on the top and bottom so we could see it better...
yeah, i noticed that too but it's not ''connected'' with the other lines
and now i'm more intrigued by the thing that are written than the system, and this isn't our solar system since our solar system has 8 (ok 9 planets with pluto) but this system is conected with 12 strings so i wonder what it is
Yeah that one and there's another one on there that's not connected either... Yeah I'm wanting to know what all of the writing is too, but I can't read most of it because it's covered up. :/ Also, what is that picture? Looks promising, but not sure what I'm staring at.
And, Sanctuary is the name of the land right? Do we know what planet Sanctuary is actually on?
the last picture i posted is a solar planet clock which can be used to calculate time or position of planets in our solar system, so maybe this has to do something with release date
That's pushing it a little. If it means anything, I would wager it has something to do with the storyline of the game. If you read my spoiler earlier, yeah.
So the next question is...What does this all mean?

I found this on incgamers (apparently there was a discussion about this there a while ago, though they were trying to connect it with game features and not the game's story, which is what this is probably connected to, if it means anything at all)
...Verdammte Seele(n)
Die Versucher
Die Laesterer
...Welche Lauter Unglück Böses Ausstreuen
Die Machten sonder Luft Herchen (Herrschen?)
Die Zauberer (Praestigiatores)
Die Raecher (Rächer) de.. laster thaten
Die Gefaesse (Gefäße) der Bosheit
Grausame Finsternuss (Finsternis)
Which translates (with a bit of semantical modification) to something like this:
...damned soul(s)
The tempter
The blasphemer
...which scattered evil and unhappiness
The power which reigned the air
The magician (conjurer)
The avenger against the wicked
The vessels of evil
Cruel darkness
Also... On the bottom right side it says "Tom. I Tab IV". This sounds like it's referring to a series of books and then a page number. Possibly the Horadric texts?
So the next question is...What does this all mean?
I doesn't really mean anything besides bliz used an old world celestial map talking about evil or whatnot to fit with their catch phrase "and the heavens shall tremble"
The outer circle for example says "SYSTEMA des jüngsten Gerichts" what could translate to "System of the Last Judgement"
Edit: Note that Systema isnt real German (maybe Old German?) the right word would be System without the A.
Want to know something funny? Google says that "systema" is Russian for "the system"
And I'm gonna try to write all the words down as best I can through the lines that are blocking them and see if I can get a complete translation without the missing pieces that the guy from ingamers has...
The translation posted above is actualy ok. Note that "Die" either means that the word is female or it indicates the plural.
"Die Verführer" (The Tempter) is the plural form.
But the first sentence should be "Böse und Verdammte Seelen" = "Evil and damned souls".
"...Welche Lauter Unglück Böses Ausstreuen" = "Die Furien welche lauter Unglück u. Böses ausstreuen" == "The Furies which scatter misfortune and evil."
This is what I got so far. I just wrote down all the characters I could see... Some of the characters were what looked like equals signs, which doesn't make sense, but I wrote them down anyway...

BOTTOM: Ungrund Tom.I.Tab.IV.
Wouldn't Ungrund mean unground? And if I remember, unground's archaic definition is like, the unexistant, something that isn't created?
The last circle has stars dotting all the way around that, and then on both sides outside the circle where it says "ungrund." Maybe outside of the circle is an area that doesn't exist, or is empty? Like the void maybe? I don't know, I haven't read any of the Diablo books, and honestly don't know enough about the story...
I was looking at the Diablo 3 logo, and just noticed that there is like star behinde the I I I of diablo.
I wonder if the star under diablo will be this one...
I think we can also see an Eye in the middle of that pentagram.

Yes exactly!
if not there are a bunch of other potential inter-connectivities that could be drawn, might be interesting to look in to that.
Thanks for connecting those dots haha, I couldnt do, I was on my cellphone.
Yeah after reviewing it looks like a map of the sky as you say. But I wonder if this has a signification in-game...
Stay awhile and listen................................... alright Cain

Not sure, but I think we've stumbled onto something pretty awesome. I'm totally mesmerized right now.

Maybe, maybe not. Either way, it's still fun.

Actually I think it's German.
