So I got this info for my laptop by going to start --> typing in and running 'dxdiag' I just provided relevant data, so you can see what really matters. Match it up with the diablo specs and you can see I can (or should be able to) easily run it. I don't have the beta but I can run Skyrim on highest settings (no lag, freeze, fps drop, or spikes... and loads times are a second or two tops)... which is good since PS3 and XBox360 run on medium-high settings.
If you need ANYHELP at all, free free to message me or post here. Just give the specs you have or the computer you looking into getting / making, and I'll let you know if it's good. So let me know any compairons (graphics cards exspecially), and I'll let you know
I often wondered if my laptop would run D3, I think it should at least on medium, here my specs.

Graphics processor is always the snag for gaming on a laptop. The 230M is just below the recommended requirement for the game so you should be sweet.
Diablo 3, as with all Blizzard games, is not the most demanding.
Some might argue because technology has progressed so far in the time they've taken to develop the game is why. Others will say that it's about style more than the latest fancy feature to add nose hair self shadowing.
A tip for anyone buying a laptop ever. If you plan to play ANY game on it, make sure it has its own dedicated graphics processor made by AMD or nVidia. If it says Intel run as if it's trying to stab you in the heart.

Exactly, Blizzard makes most their games to fit a wide scale of graphic prefference qualities so most people can play.
You`re laptop will deff be able to handle the game, probably very smoothly up and even a little past mid-range graphics setting, wouldn`t be suprised if it handled high quality settings at well... the only (and I mean i`d suprised if it does) issue you might have is the at high qualities in game, 4 people all doing their thing, you may have processor lag and I say this only because the Intel® Core™2 Duo isn`t quite up to par as say a i3, i5, or i7... but neverthe less is still good so I doubt foreseein any issues there.
And yes ABSOLUTLY make sure your laptop has an NON-INTEGRATED CARD! Nvidia GForce or ATI Radion card ... it should be advertised, make sure if does something that says Intel HD Graphics... that that is not the only graphics card, cause all that is is the graphics processor built into the mobo and is shared, it`s not dedicated.
Like if you look at my specs noted above, It`s a laptop... you`ll notice I do have an intergrated Intel® HD Graphics Family chip just over 1.5GB and only 64MB of it is dedicated, but then my laptop also has two GeForce GT 540M that add 2GB dedicated memory. You want to make sure you have that dedicated card on a laptop.
I read somewhere that the actual release would require less than beta, is that somewhat correct?
Somewhat yes and no.
The graphics are graphics, they won`t be spending much time making them streamed more and easier to run, thats done way back in early development.
HOWEVER
The beta could have minimal graphic setting options (say stuck at medium or medium-high settings) and the full version may allow you to adjust those settings, reduce it to low, or go very high, etc.... giving you more adjustability in the full release.
However, I`d say if you can`t run the beta, don`t be holding onto running the full game on the lowest settings, chances are you`d be dissapointed.
I am going to look into purchasing a new computer and want to make sure the specs are maxed.
