When I initially picked up the beta I figured that the WD would be the weakest and my least favorite to play since I'm not huge on pet classes.
But... as with many assumptions I was completely wrong. After diverging from whole "pet class" mentality and making a pure caster I actually saw the immense damage a WD can have. Of my naked SK runs I think a WD /w no pets was the easiest. Mostly because of all the fire and forget damage and the ability to kite was really there because of it.
In PvP when you add pets into the picture and all that DoT damage I can see a decent WD being over the top. Yes he seems to not have as many escape mechanisms but his mobile offense is incredible.
In all honesty though it will be hard to really choose. Each class is OP in the damage dept. in many senses and so everything will come down to survivability. So it is possible that although the WD has so much offensive pressure on the run he still may not have the defense to survive long enough for them to rot away.
Most of his abilities are difficult to target and have ackward hit boxes. Unlike the Wiz and DH who have allways hit stuff (blizzard, arcane torrent, desintegarte, ray of frost, wave of force, eletrecute, frost nova; haunt, poison dart, grasp of the dead, acid cloud, spirit barrage, summon+sacrifice).
I just think the DH will have a really hard time hitting anyone and when it hits the damage won't be good enough. Also, he is the class with the lowest amounts of defensive boosts, so I'm assuming the Dh is the most fragile character.
I kind like the DH, but I think he will bhe the weakest in PvP.
As far as pve, just from my beta exp it feels like DH will have an easy time =P But as far as PvP, I played the wiz a lot at blizzcon this year, and I tore that shit up lol. Of course things have and will be changed, but at that time no class could stand against the wiz, hell i could 1v2 some of them. But 1v1 it was stupid simple =)
From what I've heard as well as what I've seen (including Choogar's pvp arena videos from Blizzcon 2011), I'm actually pretty happy with how things look for the Witch Doctor. Poison dart was more than viable as a single-target dd spell, and Hex with that increased damage rune was just bonkers. Spirit walk is notable as well, both in terms of escape as well as offensive set-up. It's a mistake to try to pigeonhole the WD as a summoner.
Obviously everyone will have their favorites for various reasons, but it looks like things will be fairly balanced. It's anybody's guess which class will come out in the end as being demonstrably better than all other builds.

I made this build in two second so don't bash it! I never put any "real" thought into it:
I would like to say the WD but not likely. The monk is going to be on top of the pvp 1v1 he has multiple heals, distance closers, mitigation tactics, quick movement, possibility of slight ranged attack, possibility of high damage output with spirit dumb abilities. But im going to make a WD and try my hardest to wipe the field clean of any other class
Most people are highlighting a few characteristics or abilities that a particular class has, and then based on certain assumptions (i.e. that "this class has a lot of cc" or "this class has a lot of healing") they judge that it will be the best. I think it's difficult to say with certainty just which class will be best, but I think if you look at certain factors that other games have (and I know people don't like to talk about League of Legends, but many of the archetypes/abilities are present in D3), with the right skill on the part of the player, any of the classes could be dominate. Who knew a straight bone necro would be good in D2? Or the "BVC" barb with leap?
As much as I love the idea of the monk... I would have to say that in my honest opinion the wizards are gonna be the ones feeling a bit OP! I think so, cause until now, wizards have always been one of the best/ balanced classes in blizzard games. (especially on higher levels of gaming/skill)
The answer is pretty obvious the monk will be the strongest class at 1v1 he has a move which costs 15 spirit dashes him towards the enemy nd roots the victim to the ground for 1 second nd when runed this attack has a chance 2 stun nd it has no cooldown... the monk also has a attack when runed he teleports to the target and attacks 7 time fast dealin 150% dmg per hit the monk is immune while doin this... with good gear can easily kill an

I went with Wizard. While a couple of the other classes may be able to offer good competition, the ranged caster will still be king if a player knows how to properly utilize its abilities.
I'd say Demon Hunter because of their quick skills and evasive abilities. If you have quick enough reaction, and utilize the discipline resource enough, I think that the Demon Hunter Could vault around and definitely be a challenge to kill. Especially now because of DEX and getting a +dodge stat.
Not to mention, some of the runes give poison and slow, which can be helpful for weakening enemies for your teammates, if not killing them yourself.
Trying to evaluate which class is going to be the best in pvp is rather stupid for a game like diablo as any class will be able to create a build specifically to shut down any specific class. For example as a barbarian I could create a ridiculously tanky ancient spear crit barb and essentially make it so a barbarian on the opposing team has no choice but to attack me in arena which is obviously pointless as I would be tanky.
Anyone who played at Blizzcon will tell you how important a WD is. Do not underestimate them.
That said, Monk is completely un-kitable and very, very difficult to kill. His peeling power is also unmatched with the low cost, no cooldown, teleport (Dashing Strike) that also happens to root the target for a few seconds. Couple all of that with insane healing and multiple CC effects, and you've got an easy winner.
Having only played around with him at lv 13 rocking something like 80 dps and only having 4 skills on top of one passive, I can already firmly state that the Monk will be the best PvP class available. Not to mention, probably the most fun to play I've had in a long time. They remind me of Assassins so much, with DS instead of DF, Blind instead of CloS/CoI and so on, but so so much more fluid and fast paced.
I voted WD, with his passive abilities to increase his life, and ability to DoT people up and CC, and then spirit walk. He will put his DoT spells on, slow you, pets will attack you, you get close, he spirit walks, you are still taking damage, CC'd again he takes the health globe, you catch up to him, he uses a nuke, pets explode, you die!!
Of course all hypothetical, and there will be tons of variations of builds, but I think the WD will be awesome in PvP.
as far as i know, if he would hit your body wich are left behind he could probelly hit once or twice and your spirit walk would face off.. and as far as i have seen you would still take the damage from your body that's left behind.. might be me that's wrong but lets say he gets a massive crit on you and it breaks in one hit and you still take the full damage?? then he could just leap over and go pew pew in a matter of seconds...
Even though im picking the barb to be on top i believe that each class will have its own special things at there expense. The fact that blizzard is working to make sure that each class is as good as the others and its not a 1 sided fight.
I have seen a lot of love for the Barbarian class, but I'm a total sucker for an underdog.
I would like to see more Demon Hunter fans. I'm definitively looking in on getting some Demon Hunter action in BETA and when release hits.
I think the Barb will be the most used character, being more familiar to most people from D2. I think the appeal to the melee character is very popular to most gamers, myself included. The later abilities for the Barb look amazing, can't wait for whirlwind. Geez release the game already!!
I am curious about the monk as well, looks like it might be pretty fun to play, think I will give it a try.

This DH hits everything! If anything the DH is the easiest character to hit things with!

If DPS is far bigger than healthpool I don't know Wizard maybe, if Healing works Monk.

sry for the bad spelling ^^
The runed fire toad has the best optimization based upon standard skill output.
Hopefully the barb will still come on top ;P
my mind is still ready ;P

Anyone with me?
