It can be added to the list of his awesome English skills. "psychologics & burninating." while trying to abuse everyone who disagrees with him.
Zellogs, I thought you were against this type of useless banter which degrades a threads importance?
Also, before I knew there was an alternative (in other words; before I saw these pictures; while I was watching the game play footage), even though I thought it was amazing and couldn't stifle audible approval, I was reminded of when I created an undead character and went out to level for the first time ever. I played with the camera zoomed out as far as possible and, in retrospect, the color scheme/character models (sort of) resembled what Diablo 3 looks like now.
Liking the graphics is one thing, discounting what is evident is another. It definitely has an atmosphere that is slightly comparable to WoW (Diablo 3 is still, way better looking in my opinion) (Edit: the WoW picture is not mine):
The first thing that come to my mind, is that the 'darkness' in the cave should remain as it is (maybe some darker, but not necessarily as dark as you made it), but the darkness outside should be exactly like you did in the picture. It's more Diablo-like.
EDIT: After watching picture one even better, I came to the conclusion that that one is right aswell. Therefore I am going to vote for 'The graphics should be changed in a manner congruent with the pictures from the original post'.
Very good job!
I didn't make the pictures. I got the impression you may have thought I did...I'm going to edit my OP to state that I didn't just to avoid any potential confusion.
60 votes isn't booming with solid evidence to support that ALL of diablofans is involved. For every thread you make about how terrible the art is, theres 50 people who don't look at the population numbers looking at the forums and the website on a whole and use LOGIC. Also this is the what? Fourth 'Official' thread which throws out all your credibility to trying to make a professional stand against the company and people who have been working on the game for around 5 years.
They know that your still going to beg the cashier to take your precious money for the game on release and the current art style appeals to a wider audience not just the emo's, they'll leave the art where it is because it's what the main demographic of gaming enjoys right now. Complain all your want but it's not changing much at all.
I'm also pretty sure blizzard didn't realise these forums would be like they are now after they announced it or they probably wouldn't have linked to the site from d3.com look at how 99% of the people complaining about the art are acting, telling blizzard to get fucked becuase of the art? Geeze.
Also take note, that people look at this thread and facepalm over the fact it's "another" one of those threads, I'm surprised the amount of people coming in here to say they like it now is as high as it is. Something that appeals to you, will grab your attention and it'll only grab a tiny portion of people who it's not related to ie : people who enjoy the current art style barely come in here yet the votes remain almost very similar.
First of all, please calm down. Now, please, slow down. I said I like the graphics. This post is an opportunity for individuals to share how they feel. I, also, explicitly stated that this was only a representation of those whom view and vote in this particular thread. I made sure to say that it did not represent the thoughts or views of www.diablofans.comperiod.
I made no professional claim against Blizzard in a midst of thousands of posts. I support them and there was only one other thread with a poll, which was closed. I liked the thoughts of others in that thread and wanted to keep it going, the absence of a poll caused more reading than should be had, so I reinstated an open poll for an overall view of individual thoughts.
reality check people, making yet another thread about this just makes you look like whining babies. 41471894 threads from a total of 100-200 people shouldn't dictate what millions will see in the end. Get over it and go outside until you've seen more than a staged demo meant to show off the game mechanics.
You have got to understand that your comparision of 100-200 people not dictating the best way a game looks to the majority can easily be equated to the 200-300 people making the game, right?
The purpose of this thread is to get one large representation of what diablofans.com users like. We have a large fan base and it appears to grow each day. We're even listed on diablo3.com.
As I stated in the OP, if this thread takes off, Blizzard may make note of it. I feel as though I can assure you they will take the results (if they see them) and use them to make an informed decision (taking into account the number of voters vs the number of potential consumers).
'So I guess...uhm...it's probably been about...3 years I think? Since then? And as far as why we're annoucning now, well. Uhm..it it was just kind of the right time for the game. You know, the game's really far along, and you know, it's really fun to play already even though we're not, you know, having a playable build here at the show. It's, it's...It's pretty far along and it's already a fun game to play, so we just felt like it was the right time to announce the game...and a great place too.'
To sum it up, he says about all characters are playable, all of act I is practically complete (this does not mean they aren't far along on all the acts, they had teams of developers on Diablo II). Basically, they seem further then they let on at the WWI.
He also states that Diablo I and II had an absence of color and they are trying to add it into Diablo III, which is what we see now:
'You know if you look at Diablo I and II, they're very uhm. I mean..they obviously have the, the gothic look to it. but you know we weren't, really weren't...uh...they weren't very colorful games...and... and one of the challenges we wanted to take with d3 was; could we add color but still maintain that gothic dark feel? You cuz I...I think uhhh, we wanna take more of a dark as an emotion rather than actual color or art choice and I think that's something that uhm you know took a long time to get to the point where we're at now. Like, we've probly gone through at least three different pretty major art direction shifts until we got to the point we were at on stage cuz, I think it's really difficult to be able to pull that off, but...we're really happy with the look of the game now.'
I almost quoted this for truth, but then I thought about it and realized that statement should be expanded. See, Blizzard knows that what the fans want is best. That's why we're getting a Diablo 3 in the first place.

...i bet at least 1 blizzard developer has read this thread
This thread is going to require a lot more views, posts, and voting before Blizzard takes note of it, I think.
It is still 1-2 years to the actual release. I'm sure the trailer don't have final graphics in it, if it would they would be about 2 years outdated already. I think the surfaces will get more detailed, it might get a bit more rough..
Lets wait and see.
In stead of offering their opinion on the current schemes, a lot of people seem to state things such as this. The developers have already stated that they are very far along in the game. I'm not sure which interview I heard this in (I've watched a lot over the last few days), but they have said it.
I like those. I'm going to append peoples image suggestions to the bottom of the OP for a quick summary of thoughts; should Blizzard ever come across this and want more information than just the poll results.
Why do I have the feeling when they show lut gholem or some desert area that people will photoshop it into black and white as well.
Quote from "Dvirus55"" »
Is it possible to apply that black and white filter into the 20 minute gameplay video? I have no doubt when people see it like that it looks completely dull.
Nobody wants it "black and white." I understand you feel the changes seem to remove color from the game entirely, but rest assured nobody is suggesting it should be monochrome. Our points of contention revolve around the color hue's and richness of the lighting, not the presence of color.
Sort of like the difference hdr lighting made in video games.
Didn't vote because what you're showing isn't graphical change its just a change...
Stopped reading because what I was talking about didn't entail graphs and charts. Just kidding.
Let's not quibble over verbiage! You can still vote, your opinion counts and this thread (if enough people access it; link to it!) may be seen by a Blizzard employee.
It's funny people want that OP pic considering the story says it's been 20 years and they havn't been invaded. Do you seriously think the world is that dark after 20 years of no invasion after the worldstone was destroyed?
I'm pretty sure diablo 3 starts out the way they have the game now and ends up getting darker and darker as you progress just like D2...
Seriously Give blizzard a chance to show off later levels lol?
It's funny people claiming 20 years of an absence of diablo as grounds for bright and sunny days.
This is the world of sanctuary, not earth. Tristram was dark from the get go, it wasn't dark and stormy just because there were demons 20 stories down. This is a dark land.
Here is an excerpt:
"Then it started to go wrong. We began encountering these, these dark...things...imps or demons...or fallen, I think they're called. There were so many of them, all horns and flashes of red, attacking us from all sides. I don't think you could ever really be prepared for something like that. We got disoriented, which was easy to do. It was so dark...."
Notice the three pictures underneath that quote? Same as the game play footage. Now take a look at the first picture on the page, top right. That is a dark cathedral.

A lock on this thread might not be a bad thing, says the original poster.
Major update!: As I have since stated, I feel the game looks phenomenal in motion (not that it looks bad in images). Here is an excerpt from an interview at 1up which seems to confirm my thoughts on how playing the game will feel: Rob Pardo: "We don't want the game to look like WOW. We want it to look like Diablo. But we felt that there was an opportunity to add more color to the game but still keep the game feeling dark. And I think that's something a little tougher to see in a demo. I think when you're playing the game, people will fall in love with it, and will realize, "you know what? You can have reds and blues and a more painted look and still have a very dark, gothic feel to it all."
This thread should now be considered outdated but will remain intact for the time being:
Periodical update: The poll is closed. I did not close it, I have no idea why it's closed. That doesn't bother me though, I like the graphics. Apparently, the global petition is here and another poll submitted by a moderator can be found here.
I've come to the conclusion that I am satisfied with the graphics (they look great during gameplay). This thread will continue to reflect peoples opinions, but as stated above, there is a thread which was created by a moderator which can be accessed here.
Edit: If you know who deserves credit for these edits (and can prove it), let me know so I can add it, please.

I just noticed there's more rain but no rainbow in that last picture. Ironic.
I'm satisfied with whatever the developers choose and couldn't stop saying things such as "Oh my gosh!" and "Whooaaa!" as I watched the game play trailer.
Voice your opinion, but be sure to remember it is just that; an opinion.
Edit2: A lot of people keep stating this is pre-alpha and should be dismissed as inaccurate data. Here, they are quoted as being further along than we knew and, according to the speaker, they are intending to change the color: Stylization over realism/Don't be afraid of color.

They're getting my money (as long as I can afford it easily) because it's Diablo III either way.
I hear you.
