I can't say I know all to much about if a single player char can somehow be manipulated to break the game. If I were to bet on it, I'd bet there are plenty of people who would figure out how to do it. Hell my step dad figured out how to bring my first single player barb in D2 online.. He was a programmer for Dun and Bradstreet, nothing special.

I still feel they won't just let this issue exist freely... but since I don't have any evidence of this I won't argue it. I hope you guys are wrong though, I'd love for everyone to have great gameplay experiences 100% of the time. If you guys are right though... kinda rough to say.. but it's for a greater good.. X(

You can have a 1000ms ping, but if you're playing with other people with a 1000ms ping is doesn't mean anything. I'm not sure why they don't put a server other there, maybe there's not enough sales.. Doubt it though.. Skill, as I said, the MM system will surely match you with people of similar ping, since that's one of the main reasons for a MM system..

The match making system will surely party, or match you with people who have similar pings. I remember reading about how Australia will be the only place that will get to choose their server upon creating their account, or something like that. I'm sure they'll try everything they can to give you guys the same gameplay experience as everyone else.

I'm still lost on why some of you guys weigh the cons over the pros. I understand your points, and most are valid points, such as internet reliability, cost, and no true LAN parties. You have to choose the lesser of two evils though guys, which Blizzard seems to be doing a great job of doing. Examples:
A. Let third party vendors profit of players by selling over priced, possibly duplicated items through unsafe transactions.
B. Integrate a system to have players do this safely through the game, and let the players create the market prices, collecting a minimum profit themselves.
A. Have unconnected single player for those players who don't always have internet, but let them come online with friends when they do have a connection. Risking that people will find a way to manipulate the game offline, and begin feeding into the economy with duplicated items or other mods such as map-hacks, farming bots, or spam bots.
B. Have a connection be required to play the game, which sucks for those without such means, but almost completely solves the problem of mods of any sort, and saves account details/progress constantly.
Of course this is a very short and blunt description of the pros and cons of each choice, but I believe B is the best choice in both. You have to break some eggs to make an omelet..

I can't say I read every post, seeing as it seems everyone is just shouting their opinions..
I'll say though, a constant internet connection is necessarily if you'd like a healthy game. Blizzard made this choice for a few reasons, to prevent duplicating or any other game manipulations, to keep a live save of your account on the servers at all times, and to push hot fixes and other necessary updates when they see fit.
Many people seem to think that just because you have to be constantly connected means you have to interact with people. This isn't the case at all. You can still have private games and do the game 100% solo, just as you could in D2. The difference is, you no longer have to have two separate characters for single player and multi-player. If you want to play single player, go for it, you'll be able to use your same character, and you can go "offline" so no one bugs you, though of coarse you'll still technically be connected. Then if you have a change of heart all the sudden, you can invite people into your world, or join theirs.
I wholeheartedly support this requisite. Yes it sucks for the very few people that don't have internet connections, but it is for the greater good of the game.
