And i'm in europe, on balkans, i didn't have internet until a year ago. Now I have 1 mb conection. There are a lot of people that dont have any internet, or have bad connectiona, saying otherwise is being naive.
The rest of the world can't really hold off technological development just because you are behind in the balkans, no offence
Should you ban all MMO:s aswell, since they require an internet connection?
Why would you point such a silly example, D1 had D2 had offline mode, D3 don`t have anymore does all MMOs had a single-player version before and now all the sudden are all online ?
The point is that there are valid reasons for having the game online only. Blizzard isn't forcing online just to fuck with people. If you don't have the technological setup necessary, well, too bad for you. The game isn't targeted for EVERYONE, therefore you can't demand that it should work for everyone. Just like Crysis is targeted for high end computers.

The rest of the world? The rest of world does not have computer at all, or in best case have some old crap, because its luxure for what they don't have money. You and me are small part of the world.=)
I just can't understand your argument. Because some people are poor/don't have access to an internet connection, then you shouldn't make the game as is? Not everybody can afford to have nVidias latest GPU:s either, should nVidia stop making them? The market is obviously people with an acceptable internet connection.
Personally I'm really glad that the game is online only, since that minimizes the problems with dupes, cheats and whatever that was so plaguing for Diablo 2.

I think the main point is, of course connected to RMAH and the auction house per se, but I think the reason is mainly to prevent cheating and hacking. That is ALOT easier to do when you can't have access to the entire game without Blizzards servers. That in turn does not only protect the auction house but the entire economy of the game, which I would say is a pretty big deal for a game based on grinding for items. There will of course later be emulators and such, but that is not a problem for Blizzard as long as they can protect the game environment for the people than want to play legit. I am fully aware that nothing is fool proof but at the moment, restricting the play to online only is certainly the best method of achieving this goal.

Really? That's why Starcraft 2 is online only? For spying and auction house reasons? I must've totally missed the auction house in SC2
